BACKGROUND:The platform switching concept involves the reduction of therestoration abutment diameter with respect to diameter ofdental implant. Long –term follow up around these wideplatformsshowed higher level of bone preservation andproper stress distribution and esthetic look.AIM:The aim of this paper is to carry out literature review ofstudies which deal with the influence of platform-switchedimplants in hard and soft tissue with Finite element methodand stress distribution pattern observed in different implantsystems.MATERIALS AND METHOD:All papers involving Dental implants, Platform-switching,Finite element analysis and combination of these wordswhere used and papers from science direct, ELSEVIER, PubMed were analyzed and reviewed.RESULTS:In our search most of papers result outcome indicate that inplatform-switching peri-implant bone resorption is reducedand showed better stress distribution around bone thanconventional implants system.CONCLUSION:All papers written by different researchers showed animprovement in peri-implant bone preservation and betterstress distribution and less stress transfer to bone. Howeverthere is lack of non-linear finite element analysis whichwould explain real life simulation and better stressdistributionpattern and experimental methods to validatethis results which are to further needed to be develop.
