The reaction of substituted salicyaldehydes with hydrazine hydrochloride under different conditions gave the corresponding 1-H indazoles. However, the reaction of benzaldehydes with hydrazine hydrate under the same conditions yielded only hydrazones. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
