The iris has been described as the ideal part of the human body compared to other biometrics for biometric identification technique which provides individual authentication based on unique features possessed by individual even though their DNA is similar. This paper provides general framework for iris recognition with different methods available for segmentation, normalization, feature extraction, and for classification. Iris recognition improves the overall performance and accuracy of biometric identification. This paper provides a brief introduction about classification techniques such as support vector machines and artificial neural networks, and a review on different wavelet based feature extraction techniques used for iris recognition. © 2017 IEEE.
