Abstract
Energy conservation is a key characteristic of wireless sensor network(WSNs). Therefore saving the energy is main issue in order to increase lifetime of network. It is essential to use effective and energy aware mechanism for energy conservation. Clustering is an important mechanism which achieve scalability, reduce energy consumption and increase lifetime of network. To achieve this objective we proposed a multi-tier clustering based method for homogenous WSNs. This method works effectively and efficiently in small as well as in large area. Multi-tier architecture is used for node addressing and communication and to balance the load of all the sensor node. This tiers are formed on the basis of the transmission range from the sink node which is placed at the center. Further in each tier clusters head(CH) is selected by considering highest residual energy. Nodes coming in the transmission range of CH will form a cluster. The simulation results shown reduction in average energy consumption and increased network lifetime. © 2015 ACM.
