Abstract
An ultracompact, multifunctional, and highly integrated 3×2 photonic switches which were designed with the use of SiGe/Si material using UHV-chemical vapor deposition and silicon-optical technology were discussed. The photonic switches combined multiwavelengths from different input channels and switched the channels to different output channels. It was observed that the insertion loss of the device was less than 2 DB and crosstalk was between -20 DB and -25 Db. The switches were found to be used in optical power splitter, optical crossconnect, optical add-drop multiplexer and wavelength division multiplexers for applications in fiber optics communication systems, photonic integrated circuits and wavelength division multiplexed networks.
