Pitch detection algorithm is important feature in the speech processing algorithms. It can be used for speaker recognition, speech instruction of the hearing impaired ones, vocoder systems, discriminate normal and pathological voice etc. Hence robust and accurate determination of pitch is necessary. The paper involves determining pitch of the speech signal by the pitch detection algorithm - 1) Autocorrelation method, 2) Cepstrum Method, 3) Simplified Inverse Filtering Method 4) Data Reduction Method. A measurement is made on the pitch contours to explore how voice/acoustic parameter like fundamental frequency can determine person's health. The paper attempts to identify and classify the pathological voices from the normal voices using k-NN algorithm. The relative performance comparison is done in terms of accuracy and speed of operation of the above mentioned algorithms.

Implementation of pitch detection algorithms for pathological voices

The first step to improving public health is by the assessment of vital signs, which are valuable indicators of overall health. In the present day there are a number of complex, albeit expensive instruments that can measure various parameters accurately. However, these instruments often tend to be bulky, expensive and difficult to operate. Hence it is difficult to use these instruments in isolated locations such as rural or disaster stricken areas, for bedside monitoring or even in military camps. The objective of this paper is to introduce the concept of a user friendly modular system which can be used to monitor various physiological parameters efficiently. In the proposed system different sensing circuits are attached to a common Micro-Controller Unit (MCU) which can be updated with the associated firmware. Any general computing system such as a laptop is connected to the MCU via a USB-UART bridge. After the connection is established the controller starts sending data to the computer. A JavaScript is run on the laptop using open-source software called Processing 2.0, which initiates a customized display of the various parameters using the incoming data. For data logging we store the serial data in text files. As proof of principle we have measured two parameters, namely the body temperature using the LM35 sensor and the heart rate using photoplethysmography. Such a switchable system can be used as a tool to measure various parameters like oxygen saturation, blood pressure, ECG etc. on the computer screen. © 2016 IEEE.

Portable system to monitor vital signs with a Java based computer display and data logging

Object counting is a popular operation in computer vision. It is also useful for visual inspection. When counting objects for visual inspection count of objects with similar features is calculated. In object counting feature extraction from input image is done and count is calculated by comparing these features values with cutoff values. These cutoff values are statically specified and used for particular application. In this paper an automatic counting method is proposed which requires only tolerance to be specified to calculate count of object. The proposed method calculates cutoff values at runtime and therefore it can be easily applied to different applications. The object count generated by proposed method is useful for visual inspection of input samples. The proposed method has basic four steps as Input image, Preprocessing, Segmentation and Counting. In fourth step 'Counting' cutoff values are calculated to generate final object count. Proposed automatic counting method is tested on two applications and it shows high accuracy. © 2015 IEEE.

Handwritten Marathi Consonants Recognition using Multilevel Classification

In Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs), the information is transferred from its source to destination without end-to-end connectivity of the network. The Reputation-Based Trust Management Systems for MANETs do not apply to DTNs due to lack of end-to-end connectivity. The existing Iterative Trust Reputation Mechanism (ITRM) is effective in a detection of malicious node, however it faces from latency time, and hence, sometimes results in false detection of node considered as malicious node. The Proposed Modified Iterative algorithm for Detection of the malicious node for Delay-Tolerant Networks is based on clustering of Raters as per their ratings to Service Providers. The Raters are categorized as low priority, middle priority and high priority based on rating given to Service Provider. This has resulted into lowered amount of false positives and improvement in Service Provider reputation accuracy. The Proposed Modified Iterative algorithm for Detection of the malicious node for Delay-Tolerant Networks is compared with the existing ITRM algorithm and found that, the proposed algorithm has less time complexity and better accuracy of detection of malicious nodes. © 2015 IEEE.

An approach to detect malicious node for Delay Tolerant Networks

Now a day security is a major issue in public places such as railway stations, airports, shopping malls and in crowded areas. Unattended object detection is one of essential tasks in video surveillance system. This paper proposes an algorithm for detecting unattended and unknown object using background subtraction and morphological filtering. The main goal of the algorithm is to automatically detect the suspicious object and to improve the safety and security of the public areas. The system takes frames from video which is captured by a static camera as input and subtraction of foreground and background is done using thresholding techniques. To improve the detected region, morphological operation is used in the process. The system recognizes the reasons of interest, creates blobs of objects, labels the blobs and finally gives a warning when suspicious objects are detected.

Suspicious object detection in surveillance videos for security applications

Purpose - This paper aims to review the quad-porosity shale system from a production standpoint. Understanding the complex but coupled flow mechanisms in such reservoirs is essential to design appropriate completions and further, optimally produce them. Dual-porosity and dual permeability models are most commonly used to describe a typical shale gas reservoir. Design/methodology/approach - Characterization of such reservoirs with extremely low permeability does not aptly capture the physics and complexities of gas storage and flow through their existing nanopores. This paper reviews the methods and experimental studies used to describe the flow mechanisms of gas through such systems, and critically recommends the direction in which this work could be extended. A quad-porosity shale system is defined not just as porosity in the matrix and fracture, but as a combination of multiple porosity values. Findings - It has been observed from studies conducted that shale gas production modeled with conventional simulator/model is seen to be much lower than actually observed in field data. This paper reviews the various flow mechanisms in shale nanopores by capturing the physics behind the actual process. The contribution of Knudson diffusion and gas slippage, gas desorption and gas diffusion from Kerogen to total production is studied in detail. Originality/value - The results observed from experimental studies and simulation runs indicate that the above effects should be considered while modeling and making production forecast for such reservoirs. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

Quad-porosity shale systems-a review

Earth Station Power controller can be designed by several methods by using different processors and programming codes. For coding we can use different languages as per different processor or hardware, embedded C, Hardware description language (HDL), etc. Power controller design is nothing but a design of algorithm where multiple solutions are provided for power failure condition and power consumption conditions. We have used different power sources for load consumption (Earth Station), our primary power source is Solar Panels and Secondary power source is Diesel generator. Our main objectives are avoiding Failure conditions and utilize maximum power from solar panels. As per objective, load consumption and failure conditions our algorithm and flow chart are designed accordingly hardware specification has selected for our prototype. Solar panels, charger circuit, battery bank, inverter, load and controller these are main hardware. © 2016 IEEE.

Design of earth station power controller using embedded system

Error Concealment (EC) is a popular technique at the decoder side to removing the transmission errors. It is done analyzing the spatial or temporal information from available image regions. Many researches are going on based on this due to its application in different fields such as video-telephone, video-conference, TV, DVD, internet video etc. According to literature survey, there are various types of spatial error concealment techniques such as tensor voting based, interpolation based, stochastic based, etc. In this paper exemplar based error concealment algorithm is compared with Frequency Selective Extrapolation algorithm. Both the works are based on concealment of manually created images or error video frames as input. The parameter used for objective quality measurement was PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio). The test frame with different error patches are compared with both the Error concealment algorithms. According to simulation results, Frequency Selective Extrapolation is better than patch matching algorithm in terms of both subjective and objective quality of the images or error video frames. © 2016 ACM.
