Comparative Implementation of DOA Algorithms

In the past few years Silicon Photo-multiplier (SiPM) has emerged as a new detector in various applications due to its promising characteristics for low light detection. However SiPM has certain limitations out of which temperature dependence of gain is an important parameter which limits the application fields to temperature controlled or indoor environment. Change in temperature changes the breakdown voltage and hence the gain; therefore the biasing voltage needs to be trimmed according to temperature for maintaining the constant gain. This paper explores different power supply techniques that have been used for SiPM. Many commercial power supplies are compared and different approaches which are tried by various research groups for maintaining stable gain are discussed.

A Survey of Power Supply Techniques for Silicon Photo-Multiplier Biasing

In a country like India, patients are monitored in their recovery period, so the cost of hospitalization is also increasing day by day. The physiological parameters like body temperature, heart beat rate are monitored during recovery period of patients. This is done using a 'Smart Non-Invasive Wireless Physiological Monitoring System', where patients are monitored remotely. Impact sensors are used, which detects the fall of patients, so that immediate help is provided to them. In this paper the temperature, heart beat rate and impact sensors are used to measure physiological parameters which are then analysed and transmitted to PC through ZIGBEE wirelessly. Using GUI, parameters are monitored on PC by medical professionals. The high fluctuations in the parameters will be reported to doctors as a critical condition through GSM. © 2014 IEEE.

Clustering Multidimensional Data with PSO based Algorithm

Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a software or hardware tool that repeatedly scans and monitors events that took place in a computer or a network. A set of rules are used by Signature based Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) to detect hostile traffic in network segments or packets, which are so important in detecting malicious and anomalous behavior over the network like known attacks that hackers look for new techniques to go unseen. Sometime, a single failure at any layer will cause the NIDS to miss that attack. To overcome this problem, a technique is used that will trigger a failure in that layer. Such technique is known as Evasive technique. An Evasion can be defined as any technique that modifies a visible attack into any other form in order to stay away from being detect. The proposed system is used for detecting attacks which are going on the network and also gives actual categorization of attacks. The proposed system has advantage of getting low false alarm rate and high detection rate. So that leads into decrease in complexity and overhead on the system. The paper presents the Evasion technique for customized apriori algorithm. The paper aims to make a new functional structure to evade NIDS. This framework can be used to audit NIDS. This framework shows that a proof of concept showing how to evade a self-built NIDS considering two publicly available datasets. © 2014 IEEE.

Modified apriori approach for evade network intrusion detection system

Heat Transfer and friction factor data at various volume concentrations for flow in absorber/Receiver and with and without twisted tape inserts is determined experimentally (with water and silver Nanofluid). The experiments are conducted in the Reynolds number range 500≤ Re<≤ 6000 with twisted tape inserts of different twist ratios in the range 0.577 ≤H/D/≤1.732. This study shows that twisted tape inserts when used shows great promise for enhancing heat transfer rate in absorber. The heat transfer coefficient and friction factor of 0≤ Φ≤0.1 % volume concentration of silver Nanofliud are higher compared to flow of water in absorber/receiver. The experiments show that Nussult Number, friction factor and enhancement efficiency are found to be 1.25-2.10 times, 1.0-1.75 times and 135%-205%, respectively, over, plain absorber/receiver of parabolic trough collector. Finally new generalized correlations function for predicting heat transfer and friction factor for turbulent flow of both water and Silver Nanofliud are proposed with tape inserts. © 2013 The Authors.

Visual Character N-Grams for Classification and Retrieval of Radiological Images

The introduction of digital information storage and internet technologies has changed diagnostic radiology practices significantly. Radiological support systems including PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), SRS (Structured Reporting System) and image and text retrieval systems have been developed to assist radiologists. In this article we analyse the integration of image and text retrieval is promising for enhancing radiological teaching, research and diagnosis. Presentation of similar images as diagnostic aids has proven to be helpful in domains of radiology such as chest radiographs, lung CT and mammograms. We propose a diagnostic support system based on a combination of image and text retrieval. Our approach has the potential to increase the radiologist's confidence in his/her diagnosis which could translate to greater accuracy and reduced health care costs.

A Novel Architecture and Analysis of Challenges for Combining Text and Image for Medical Image Retrieval

Present study deals with the effect of variation in melt flow index (MFI) of maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) as a polymeric compatibilizing agent on various properties of fly ash (FA)-filled polypropylene (PP) composites. The FA content was varied from 0 to 40 wt%. The effect of polymeric compatibilizing agents with different MFI and very high maleic anhydride (MAH) content on interfacial adhesion between filler and matrix and filler dispersion were studied. The mechanical and thermal properties of the composite material were evaluated, and the microstructure was investigated through scanning electron microscopy. The values of yield stress and breaking strength of compatibilized PP/PP-g-MAH/FA-based composites showed higher values compared to that of untreated FA-filled PP composites at corresponding filler content. Incorporation of FA into PP led to stiffer materials, as tensile modulus increased significantly. Tensile and impact properties varied with varying molecular weight of PP in PP-g-MAH and are essentially decided by wettability of the filler. It is also found that heat-deflection temperature and vicat softening point improved with the addition of FA filler. The use of PP-g-MAH as polymeric coupling agent provides improvement in mechanical and thermal properties of filled polymers. The higher effect of compatibilization is obtained using high-molecular-weight PP in PP-g-MAH as a polymeric compatibilizing agent and low-molecular-weight PP in PP-g-MAH resulted in better dispersion of FA in PP matrix. The overall results showed that FA dispersion and interfacial adhesion are greatly affected by the kind of PP-g-MAH. © The Author(s) 2013.
