Isolated Handwritten Marathi Character Recognition

This paper proposes an advanced PSO variant using Subtractive Clustering methodology for data clustering. The implementation of this algorithm will be used to provide fast, efficient and appropriate solution for any complex clustering problem. This algorithm addresses the basic challenges faced with the existing PSO based clustering techniques i.e. preknowledge of initial cluster centers, dead unit problem, premature convergence to local optima, stagnation problem, etc. The proposed algorithm proved that the use of Subtractive Clustering methodology at the start of any PSO approach can improve the clustering process by suggesting good initial cluster centers and number of clusters in advance and then fasten the further clustering with the use of adaptive inertia weight factor and boundary restriction strategy. The performance of proposed algorithm is tested against well know clustering techniques over three datasets, where the results showed a better or comparable performance with respect to accuracy of clustering and convergence rate. © 2014 IEEE.

A Review on Clustering Web Data using PSO

This paper discusses the use of propane (HC-290) as a safe and energy efficient alternative to HCFC-22 in a typical split air conditioner with nominal cooling capacities up to 5.1 kW. Initially split air conditioner performance is simulated for cooling capacity, energy efficiency ratio (EER), and refrigerant charge. Tests were conducted for different test cases in a psychrometric test chamber with HCFC-22 and HC-290. The test conditions considered are as per Indian Standards, IS 1391 (1992) Part I. The various parameters considered were based on simulated performance with the objective to achieve maximum EER for the desired cooling capacity. As the flammability is an issue for HC-290, the reduction of HC-290 charge was another objective. Two different types of condensers, first with smaller size tubing and another parallel flow condenser (PFC) or minichannel condenser were used in order to reduce HC-290 charge. For HC-290, the highest EER achieved was 3.7 for cooling capacity 4.90 kW for a refrigerant charge of 360 g. The important safety aspects of using HC-290 in air conditioner are discussed. The refrigerant charge as per EN 378 for different cooling capacities and room sizes is also considered. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Simulated and experimental performance of split packaged air conditioner using refrigerant HC-290 as a substitute for HCFC-22

This paper presents a novel and non-destructive approach to the color appearance characterization and classification of guava ripeness. Guava ripeness is modeled using extracted statistical color features and support vector machines (SVM) are adopted to perform the classification task. Also, the role of different color spaces in entropy calculation for estimating resolving power in the characterization of ripeness levels of guava is investigated. This approach is applied to 270 guava images from three types of ripeness, i.e., under ripe, ripe, and over ripe. Entropy-based color space selection is carried out using nonparametric Kruskal– Wallis procedure. Statistical curve-fitting color features are derived from the histogram of selected color space. Experimental results show that in spite of the complexity and high variability in color appearance of guava, the modeling of guava images with statistical color curve-fitting parameters allows the capture of differentiating color features between the guava ripeness levels. The classification accuracy using six normpdf curve-fitting parameters (mean, sigma, mean_LB, mean_UB, sigma_LB, sigma_UB) is 90.37% for testing data. © Springer India 2014.

Fusion of entropy-based color space selection and statistical color features for ripeness classification of guavas

A novel multiresonance loop shape microstrip antenna (MRLMSA) for ultra wide band wireless communication applications is presented. The designed radiating antenna consists of a two loop shaped ring resonators around the single monopole hexagon patch. This antenna is powered through stepped co-planar waveguide (CPW) fed. The stepping fed is used to improve the antenna electrical characteristics at the centre and at higher frequencies. The stepping fed and ground formation will also provide the impedance matching with the radiating patch. This antenna is used for characterisation in ultra wide band frequency range from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. The antenna is designed and simulated on an Fr4-epoxy substrate of dimensions (L) × (W) = 72.25 mm × 51 mm having dielectric constant εr = 4.4, relative permeability = 1, thickness t = 1.53 mm, loss tangent tan δ = 0.002 and lande G factor 2. The size of the radiating patch is specified by Length × Width is (L1) × (W1) and edge length is (S1) for impedance matching, constant gain, steady radiation patterns, and constant group delay over the UWB frequency range. The two loop rings are used around the monopole hexagon is to provide the multiresonance radiation characteristics. The speciality of the design and its dimensions is that, within two loop rings and a monopole patch it gives multiresonance response in the UWB frequency range from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. An optimized MRLMSA is designed and simulated on an Ansoft-HFSS simulation software and a comparative statement of result is also proposed. This antenna is useful in the UWB wireless communication systems i.e. MIMO-Multi-Input Multi-Output UWB system for short range, higher power transmission with higher bandwidth requirement. This antenna is also used in other wireless systems such as WLAN, WiMax etc for notch (filter)applications. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper also proposes a framework for predicting the performance of engineering students. Genetic programming can be used to predict student failure/success. Ranking algorithm is used to rank students according to their credit points. The framework can be used as a basis for the system implementation & prediction of Students? Academic Performance in Higher Learning Institute.
