Data DE-identification tool for privacy preserving data mining

Due to heavy traffic the network monitoring is very difficult and cumbersome job, hence the probability of network attacks increases substantially. So there is the need of extraction anomalies. Anomaly extraction means to find flows associated with the anomalous events, in a large set of flows observed during an anomalous time interval. Anomaly extraction is very important for root-cause analysis, network forensics, attack mitigation and anomaly modeling. To identify the suspicious flows, we use meta-data provided by several histogram based detectors and then apply association rule with multidimensional mining concept to find and summarize anomalous flows. By taking rich traffic data from a backbone network, we show that our technique effectively finds the flows associated with the anomalous events. So by applying multidimensional mining rule to extract anomaly, we can reduce the work-hours needed for analyzing alarms and making anomaly systems more effective. © 2013 IEEE.

Multidimensional data mining for anomaly extraction

Fault diagnosis is a central aspect of network fault management. Since faults are unavoidable in communication systems, their quick detection and isolation is essential for the robustness, reliability, and accessibility of a system. Fault localization is done using probing, monitoring, with agents, agent less, through WMI etc. Probing technique for fault localization involves placement of probe stations (Probe stations are specially instrumented nodes from where probes can be sent to monitor the network) which affects the diagnosis capability of the probes sent by the probe stations. Probe station locations affect probing efficiency, monitoring capability, and deployment cost. At the same time, probe station selection affects the selection of probe set for fault localization. We are presenting a novel approach for minimal probe station selection with an objective to reduce probe set size that will be used for fault localization. The probe station selected through this approach results into reduced deployment cost as well as it helps in producing smaller probe set for fault localization reducing overall operation cost. We provide experimental evaluation of the proposed algorithm and provided analysis of same with Shadow Node Reduction (SNR) algorithm through simulation results. © 2013 IEEE.

Probe station placement algorithm for probe set reduction in network fault detection and localization

Introduction: Delay in diagnosis of paucibacillary extra pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and of smear negative TB has hampered the efforts taken by Control Programs to curb its spread. Better efforts to control spread of TB require more accurate and rapid diagnostic test. Aims: To facilitate early diagnosis of TB directly from clinical specimens, we have standardized and validated the use of a single tube in-house nested PCR in comparison against culture and composite reference standard (CRS). Methods: Single tube nested PCR was performed using primers targeting Insertion Sequence (IS) 6110 of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. Microbiological techniques includes AFB smear microscopy and cultivation on solid egg-based medium (Lowenstein-Jensen [LJ]) and on liquid culture medium using BACTEC MGIT 960 system, BD Microbiology Systems. Results: The sensitivity and specificity of PCR against culture was observed to be 89.7% [95% CI: 84.1-93.5] and 73.1% [95% CI: 67.4-78.1] respectively and that against CRS criteria was 80.2% [95% CI: 75.1-84.5] and 97.1% [95% CI: 92.9-98.9] respectively. PCR showed 100% [111/111, 95% CI: 97-100] sensitivity for smear positive specimens. For smear negative specimens sensitivity and specificity of PCR against culture was observed to be 78.4% [69/88, 95% CI: 68.4-86.5] and 77.3% [204/264, 95% CI: 71.7-82.2] respectively and that against CRS was 68.1% [124/182, 95% CI: 60.8-74.8] and 97.1% [165/170, 95% CI: 93.3-99] respectively. Conclusion: CRS criteria were observed to be better than culture for assessing the diagnostic accuracy of PCR test. (copyright) 2013.

Is a composite reference standard (CRS) an alternative to culture in assessment and validation of a single tube nested in-house PCR for TB diagnosis?

Mainly due to its long history, sucker-rod pumping is a very popular means of artificial lift all over the world; roughly two- thirds of the producing oil wells are on this type of lift. To maximize profits from these wells in the ever-changing economic situation with rising costs of electric power, installation designs must ensure optimum conditions. QRod is the most widely used, program for the design and prediction of the performance of Sucker Rod Beam Pumping Installations. The QRod version for the PC can be used free of charge. The software can be downloaded for installation and use on any numbers of PCs. The program uses a wave equation solution to accurately predict the surface dynamometer loads, gearbox torque and pump capacity, with a minimum amount of input. The effect of changing a parameter such as tubing anchor, stroke length, stroke rate and pump diameter can be immediately seen in the dynamically updated plots. After a review of the surface and downhole energy losses in sucker-rod pumped wells, some key considerations on the ways to improve system efficiency are given. The most important task is the proper selection of the pumping mode, i.e. the combination of plunger size, pumping speed, stroke length and rod taper design for lifting the prescribed amount of liquid to the surface. Health Monitoring of Network Using Probing

The purpose of this study was to develop a methodology for assessing fruit quality objectively using texture analysis based on Curvelet Transform. Being a multiresolution approach, curvelets have the capability to examine fruit surface at low and high resolution to extract both global and local details about fruit surface. The fruit images were acquired using a CCD color camera and guava and lemon were analyzed by experimentation. Textural measures based on curvelet transform such as energy, entropy, mean and standard deviation were used to characterize fruits'surface texture. The discriminating powers of these features for fruit quality grading is investigated. The acquired features were subjected to classifiers such as Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Probabilistic Neural Networks (PNN) and the performance of classifiers was tested for the two category grading of fruits namely healthy and defected. The results showed that best SVM classification was obtained with an accuracy of 96%. The study concludes that curvelet based textural features gives promising insights to estimate fruit's skin damages.
