Multiple Feature Extraction Methods for Handwritten Marathi Numeral Recognition

In the attempt to make low cost conducting polymer composite materials for fuel cell / battery applications, polypropylene (PP) with graphite (Gr) and other carbon black/ nanotubes hybrid materials were investigated. The development of crystalline structure in polypropylene (PP) graphite composite was studied with respect to composition and processing conditions. The DSC and XRD data confirmed the preferential nucleation and beta crystalline phase formation for the binary PP-Gr composites. There was dramatic increase in the electrical conductivity by addition of small amount of thrid component (CNT <5%) to the binary PP-Gr composite even at low graphite loading of 10%. Impedance spectroscopy analysis showed that the interfacial capacitance, with the addition of 2.75 wt% CB in PP-7 wt% graphite, increases to 52 pF from 31 pF for PP-7 wt% graphite proving the occupation of CB particles in the interspaces of graphite particles. The results of electrical conductivity were correlated with the nucleation and crystallization of the beta phase of PP by graphite flakes leading to interfacial resistive layer in binary composites while suppression of these effects in the ternary composites.

Adaptive Array Beamforming using LMS Algorithm

The Recursive Least Square algorithm optimization method used in this paper for the synthesis of antenna array radiation pattern in adaptive beam forming. In this paper optimum value of weights of each antenna element is determined which produces radiation pattern with minimum side lobe level. Optimization is done using 8-elements array with an optimum interelement spacing to avoid grating lobes. Simulation is done in MATLAB and can be taken into consideration, to obtain the desired beam inthe lookup direction.

Performance Evaluation of the RLS Adaptive Beamforming Algorithm

This paper presents a rate control algorithm for H.264 Scalable video codec, based on an independent rate control (IRC) scheme for spatial scalable layers. An independent bit allocation scheme was targeted for the impact of spatial scalable layer on bit budget achievements. For each spatial layer, the target bits for the current basic unit is a function of budget allocation for current Group of Pictures (GOP), predefined frame rate, target buffer level, buffer occupancy, and the available channel bandwidth . The allocated bits for a basic unit are updated such that the target bits for each basic unit adapt to the respective spatial scalable layer. This dynamic bit allocation scheme is implemented according to the complexity of a basic unit in each spatial layer. The proposed algorithm introduces more precise bit allocation within spatial scalable layers with defined buffer size. In a single framework, IRC offers control for GOP level, frame level and macro block (MB) level. At MB level IRC provides finer bit rate and buffer control. Experimental results demonstrate that compared to algorithm in Scalable video codec reference software , the proposed method provides faster settling of target bit rate and thus is very desirable for H.264/SVC rate control applications.

Independent rate control scheme for spatial scalable layer in H.264SVC

Automated inspection of fruit quality involves computer vision based recognition of healthy and defected fruits based on colour and texture features derived from fruit images. This paper introduces a low level feature, colour texture moments which combines colour moments and local Fourier transform as a texture representation for quality inspection of tropical fruits in Maharashtra such as guavas. First, Local Fourier Transform is applied to derive eight characteristics maps for describing co-occurrence relation of pixel in each colour space. Then, the first and second moments of these maps resulting in 48 dimensional feature vectors are calculated. The colour texture moments with classifiers namely probabilistic Neural Network and Support Vector Machines are tested to sort defective fruits. The results show the effectiveness of the colour texture moments in terms of its absolute performance and comparative performance compared to the other colour space and the support vector machine classifier. An overall 97.14% classification accuracy is achieved by support vector machines. © IDOSI Publications, 2013.
