Curing behaviour of conducting polymer composite

Partial switching and negative capacitance phenomena are observed in thin film AlV2O5Al devices. It is found that the partially switched device behaves as though the device thickness is decreased. The negative capacitance observed in unswitched and partially switched devices is explained on the basis of the model for the electrical conduction in vacuum evaporated thin films, presented by the authors in previous publications. Negative capacitance in thin film Al‐V2O5‐Al devices

The crystalline structure and morphology have been investigated for powder processed poly(phenylene sulfide) blended with high-density polyethylene and poly(tetrafluoroethylene). The crystallinity in the former case showed large deviations from those estimated from rule of mixtures, while in the latter blends it closely followed the values predicted from the linear relation for homogeneous mixtures. Pronounced changes in some reflections were found in the X-ray pattern on thermal curing of the samples. These results have been explained on the basis of compaction behavior of the powder blends together with the orientations induced during the processing steps.

Structural investigations of powder processed poly(phenylene sulfide) blends

Structural investigations have been carried out in powder processed polyvinylidene fluoride containing various amounts of titanium dioxide and lead monoxide as fillers. The crystallinity was found to increase significantly at very low filler concentration (<3 percent) while it decreased monotonically with increasing filler concentrations above 5 percent. The phase transformation in the crystal structure was also noticed especially after sintering and the formation of beta phase was favourable in samples containing lead oxide. These various findings were also confirmed by infrared absorption studies and explained on the basis of deformation of the polymer during compaction together with preferential nucleation by the filler during the sintering step of the powder processing technique. © 1987, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. Crystalline structure and phase transformation in powder processing of polyvinylidene fluoride with fillers

Internal structural changes in polyphenylene sulphide coatings have been investigated as a function of curing temperature by means of scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy. The adhesion, recrystallization behaviour and chemical resistance of the films were found to be dependent on the curing temperature. These properties have been correlated with the physical and chemical changes taking place during the curing process. © 1986.

Effect of curing on the internal structure of polyphenylene sulphide coatings

The modification of structure, crystallinity and orientation have been studied in powder processed polytetrafiuoroethylene by various techniques. It was found that crystallinity (as determined from regression curve analysis) in unsintered samples decreased with increase of compaction pressure while in sintered specimen it increased with increase of pressure. The crystallinity was also found to vary inversely with logarithm of cooling rate. Microfocus X-ray diffraction revealed the orientation of c-axis lying preferentially in the plane perpendicular to applied pressure. There was slight variation in the lattice dimension especially the c-axis in completely sintered specimen. The infrared studies showed the presence of some of the bands depended upon the molding/sintering conditions. These various findings have been explained on the basis of compaction and recrystallization behaviour under constrained conditions. © 1986, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.

Modification of crystallinity and structure in powder processing of polytetra fluoroethylene

The crystalline content in high pressure compacted polymeric powders has been investigated as a function of moulding pressure. It has been noted that the crystallinity Cp varied with the pressure as [C0 — βPα] where α and β were material dependent constants. There also appears a correlation between α, β, and an empirically defined factor which is related to the glass transition temperature, melting point, and compressive yield strength for all the polymers studied. The results have been discussed in terms of various processes taking place during the high pressure compacting step.

Effect of moulding pressure on crystallinity in powder processing of semicrystalline polymers

The crystallization behaviour of a copolyester based on polyethylene terephthalate containing cyclohexanedimethanol groups was studied as a function of thermal and solvent treatment. Although the rate of crystallization as compared to homopolymer was reduced, a substantial amount of crystallinity could be introduced by prolonged treatment and a new orthorhombic crystal lattice with unit cell dimensions of a = 5.05 A ̊, b = 7.1 A ̊ and c = 10.7 A ̊ was formed in the copolyester as compared to the triclinic in the homopolymer. © 1986.

Crystallization behaviour of aromatic copolyester modified with alicyclic diol

The crystaIIinity, particle size and morphology of polyphenylene sulphide synthesized under various conditions have been investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that crystaIIinity decreased from 71 to 66% with increase of reaction time. The growth of particle size as well as total polymer mass followed a time dependence of the form X =X0 (1 -e-αt) The particle size distribution curve was noted to be sharp centring at 3 μn for short reaction time, high speed of stirring and also for low concentration of reactants. The particle morphology showed very strong dependence on various reaction parameters. Intricate sheaf-like morphology was noted for the particles at long reaction times or low stirring speeds while oblong platelet type two-dimensional morphology was noted when a low concentration of reactants was used. © 1986 Chapman and Hall Ltd.

Structure, growth and morphology polyphenylene sulphide

The resistivity of a filled polymer system has been evaluated as a function of the filler concentration. The system is based on a model which takes into account non-ohmic conduction phenomena such as the Schottky effect, the Poole-Frenkel effect, space charge limited conduction and quantum mechanical tunneling. It has been shown that most of the reported data on polymers loaded with conducting carbon blacks or other fillers can be explained on the basis of this model without invoking the formation of contacts between the particles. The internal conduction processes responsible for the charge transport in these systems are also delineated.
