In this study, “Concentrated Solar Energy (CSE)” is applied for soldering and is named as the “Concentrated Solar Energy Soldering (CSES) technique.” Lead-free solders are used for comparing novel CSES technique solder joints with CSI (Conventional Soldering Iron) solder joints. Tensile strength, bending/flexural strength, microhardness, electrical resistivity, fractography, optical microstructures, SEM microstructures, and EDS analysis were used to compare CSES solder joints with CSI solder joints. The salt spray test (SST) was used for corrosion analysis of CSES and CSI solder joints. Experimental results reveal that the tensile response, bending strength, and microhardness of the CSES solder joints were almost equal to those of the CSI solder joints. It was observed that after corrosion, the tensile strength, bending strength, and microhardness for CSES and CSI solder joints reduced. CSES solder joints were found to be slightly better than CSI solder joints for electrical resistivity. Electrical resistivity for all the cases studied was found to increase slightly after corrosion. Interfacial integrity and effect of corrosion were clearly observed on CSES and CSI solder joint microstructures. The intermetallic compounds (IMC) formed in case of CSES solder joints were found to be having slightly less thickness than that of CSI solder joints. The results demonstrate CSES technique as a green technology and a potential substitute to the CSI method.

Microstructure, Mechanical, Electrical Properties and Corrosion Analysis of Lead-Free Solder CSI Joints on Cu Substrate Using Novel “Concentrated Solar Energy Soldering (CSES) Method

Narrowband-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is a standard-based low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technology developed to connect a wide range of new IoT devices and services. The NB-IoT will improve the power consumption of user devices, system capacity, and spectrum efficiency. It is able to be loaded by major mobile equipment and module manufacturers, and indeed it will be existing to be adaptable with any cellular mobile network’s generations. It also benefits from all the security and privacy features of mobile networks. In this chapter, fundamental key aspects of NB-IoT are investigated and the features of NB-IoT and technical properties are proposed in addition to the theoretical concepts. A detailed overview of the current NB-IoT-related technologies such as Long-Term Evolution for Machines (LTE-M), Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), enhanced Machine Type Communication (eMTC) and ultralow power technologies is discussed. This chapter will also provide details of different applications related to NB-IoT such as smart grid, smart cities, and smart industry. Image classification has wide applications in many fields including medical imaging. A major aspect of classification is to extract features that can correctly represent important variations in an image. Global image features commonly used for classification include Intensity Histograms, Haralick's features based on Gray-level co-occurrence matrix, Local Binary Patterns and Gabor filters. A novel feature extraction and image representation technique ‘Pixel N-grams' inspired from ‘Character N-grams' concept in text categorization is described in this chapter. The classification performance of Pixel N-grams is tested on the various datasets including UIUC texture dataset, binary shapes dataset, miniMIAS dataset of mammography and real-world high-resolution mammography dataset provided by an Australian radiology practice. The results are compared with other feature extraction techniques such as co-occurrence matrix features, intensity histogram and bag of visual words. The results demonstrate promising classification accuracy in addition to reduced computational costs, enabling a new way for mammographic classification on low resource computers.

Pixel N-Grams Representation for Medical Image Classification

The refrigeration systems are used in domestic and commercial freezing applications. These systems are needed to be used energy efficiently to get the economic operation condition. The vapor compression refrigeration cycle (VCR) is getting replaced by vapor absorption refrigeration system (VARS) as they can use low grade energy. This VARS can be used by making use of waste energy in the form of heat which is readily available for many applications. Performance of the VARS is dependent on the generator and absorber performance. In absorber it is based on the amount of refrigerant absorbed and the solution flow rate. Experimental and Numerical study of bubble absorber and effect of nanoparticle on ammonia water mass transfer is carried out. In this study, different designs for the absorber chamber are viewed and compared together, based on the research did earlier. Looking at the aspects of bubble type absorber designs, these designs give better mass transfer performance as compared to other designs. These designs may be improved to get the energy efficient design of the absorber. Present study includes the enhancement of mass transfer rate by the addition of nanoparticles using aluminum oxide (Al2O3). Here, sparged vessels with NH3-H2O binary fluid are arranged with varying percentage of nanoparticle (Al2O3). This study includes the study of mass transfer enhancements by using nanoparticles. Based on the experimental results carried out for the varying mass flow rates it is found that the mass transfer rate is enhanced significantly, it is because the interfacial area is enhanced by the addition of nanoparticles to the base fluids. © 2020 ASME.

Mass transfer rate enhancement in sparged vessel for ammonia-water nano-fluid in VARS by adding nanoparticles

CNC turning center is one of the significant CNC-assisted machine tools, widely used for different machining operations. The quality, reliability and maintainability of such CNC turning centers are critical for both the manufacturers and users. In this context, it is decided to carry out failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) of a typical CNC turning center manufactured and used in India. A FMEA framework is proposed for the analysis of the CNC turning center. The main objective of analysis was to identify critical failure modes and their effects on the components and sub-systems. This study uses the field failure data from more than 50 CNC turning centers and opinions from more than five industrial experts. CNCS, EES, XZAS, ChS, MT, HS, CS and SS are found to be the critical sub-systems of the CNC turning center.CNCS, HS, MT, EES, ChS, TS, XZAS and CS are the critical sub-systems from reliability and maintainability perspective. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.
