Customization of Arm Processor in Mixed Signal FPGA

Developing an Embedded system with ARM & Inferno operating system is a radically simplified revolutionary approach. ARM offers the widest choice of embedded operating systems (OS) and execution environments for embedded system development. Inferno comes with all that is needed to quickly develop advanced applications and with ideal solution to produce a winning system design. Inferno is a compact and powerful operating system, ideal for use in embedded devices. It runs on most popular processor architectures. Nowadays Personal Digital Assistants are no more a luxury but a necessity. Image Fusion is a technique that integrates complementary information from multiple images such that the fused image is more suitable for processing tasks. The paper starts with the study of initial concepts for image fusion. In this paper, the fusion of images from different sources using multiresolution wavelet transform with preprocessing of Image Fusion is proposed. The fused image has more complete information which is useful for human or machine perception. The fused image with such rich information will improve the performance of image analysis algorithms for medical applications.

Improvement in Coding Performance of H. 264/AVC Using Macroblock Mode Decision

Optical Networks-on-Chip (ONoC) is emerging technology for future optical interconnects used in all optical networks. The electrical interconnects face lot of problems due to their inability to support higher data rates used in the System-on-Chip (SoC) technologies. Integrated optical interconnects based on SoC avoid this bottleneck with their support to higher data rates. In this paper for the first time we have studied and analyzed ONoC at physical level for the system performance based on crosstalk, BER, throughput, system frequency, and other related parameters. The investigation of ONoC performance is carried out for the multistage microring optical crossconnect on SoC for coherent WDM signals. The analysis can be used in the design of ultra-high speed photonic routers for reliable data communication and processing. The results show the dependency of a coherent crosstalk on the system frequency of SoC and also illustrate the reduction in throughput with increase in number of WDM signals due to higher probability of packet transmission. Minimum 2 dB signal to noise ratio can be obtained when crosstalk is -25 dB with 60 wavelengths for probability of packet transmission is 0.5. © 2011 Elsevier GmbH.

Coherent crosstalk in passive microring based Optical Networks-on-Chip

To enhance productivity of farms there is need to follow mantra by Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) i.e. 'Save & Grow'. Save and Grow directs towards Precision Agriculture (PA) for sustainable crop production intensification. There is challenge to establish information communication technology (ICT) technologies in fields and remote areas. Proposed system is novel platform to establish wireless sensor network (WSN) to execute PA overcoming the challenge to set up wireless sensor and energy efficient network at farms. Hybrid network of free space optics (FSO) and radio frequency (RF) connectivity and use of solar at farms and base station/control station makes it energy efficient. License free, high bandwidth FSO technology enables multimedia data exchange thus opening gate for many applications. Hybrid Hexagonal Positioning (HHP) for sensor nodes has achieved better link utilization compared to other topologies saving energy and increasing lifetime of sensor node and network. Overall energy efficient, centralized, environment friendly system allows cost effective solution to farmers. A village centric model is presented to define applicability of proposed solution. © 2012 IEEE.

Partitioning a video into shots is an important step for video indexing. We have presented the performance of various traditional metrics that are generally used to detect shot boundaries. In this paper, we evaluated shot boundary detection metrics, such as likelihood ratio and color ratio histogram in Red Green Blue (RGB) and Hue Saturation, Value (HSV) color space for three different action and thriller movies. These movies consist of large number of frames with object and camera motion. The pixel difference and Chi-square shot boundary detection metrics in Luma and Chrominance Components (YUV) color space has been tested for five different movies. The results were evaluated in terms of Recall, Precision, and F1 measure for all these movies. It has been observed that these results are affected by the disturbance due to the motion in the consecutive frames. The false positives and miss detection of shot boundaries in all the tested metrics are due to fast camera and object motion. An algorithm has been proposed for shot boundary detection by using dual tree complex wavelet transform in the presence of motion. Performance comparison of the proposed algorithm with the traditional metrics validates its effectiveness in terms of improved Recall, Precision, and F1 score. © 2011 by the IETE.
