Abstract
Bone density is a factor that plays a crucial role in achieving predictable osseointegration and the success of implants. It is very important for the dentist to have proper knowledge about bone density so as to come up with a proper surgery plan; hence an in depth understanding of bone density and its variations has become an important issue to evaluate. The intent of this review article is to discuss the various classifications present to determine the bone density and to study the importance and relevance of bone density in the field of orthodontics. Many clinical studies have demonstrated the relation between bone density and various factors related to the success of dental implants. In this article various works of literature pertaining to the significance bone density has been reviewed and complied; specifically works related to the influence if bone density on load transfer, implant geometry, primary stability and various surgical techniques. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd.
