In this study, Polyethylene glycol is used as a water-soluble polymer to enhance separation efficiency of heavy metal nickel ion The complexion-Nanofiltration technique was used for separation of heavy metal ions. Polyethene glycol form complex with heavy metal ion and increases the separation efficiency. The effects various parameters like pH, Concentration and flow rate on the separation efficiency of heavy metal ion were evaluated. The optimum condition for separation of heavy metal ion was found at pH 10, Concentration (heavy metal ion) 200ppm, and flow rate 3(l/hm2). It was found that the addition of water-soluble polymer gives higher separation efficiency than without water-soluble polymer PEG. © IJSTR 2020.

Influence of water soluble polymer on nano-filtration membrane for separation of nickel ion.

Rotary friction welding is widely used as a solid state welding method for joining of similar or dissimilar metals. It is an advanced joining technique that generates frictional heat and material goes under plastic deformation at the welding location, thereby affecting the formation of a joint while the material is in solid state. After heat generation phase an additional forging force is applied which completes coalescence. Since no melting of material occurs during friction welding, but metal gets deform after heat generation at welding zone. The principal advantages of frictional welding, low distortion, absence of melt-related defects and high joint strength. In this paper the study has been carried out by using the friction welding process on all geared lathe machine. The material selected for study and experimentation of RFW is stainless steel SS 304 and specimen dia. ϕ 8 mm and ϕ 10 mm. The various parameters studied for the process is rpm, weld time, temperature, pressure, heat affected zone etc., the 2D modeling and steady state transient thermal analysis has been carried out for the selected specimen. © IEOM Society International.

The major challenges faced by visually impaired are mobility and orientation during their navigation. For safe navigation of visually impaired, an assistive system that can estimate the distance between visually impaired and the obstacle (pedestrian) and generate an alert signal for the user is required. This paper presents a prototype of obstacle (pedestrian) distance estimation and alert generation system using a defocus measure for visually impaired. Initially, the video frames are extracted and preprocessed. Further, the feature points are detected using the Shi Tomasi corner detector. The feature points in the subsequent frames are tracked using Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (KLT). Region of interest of size 20 x 20 pixels is extracted around every feature point and the defocus measure is computed by using first level wavelet decomposition. For a typical camera, the defocus measure is a function of the distance between camera and obstacle and therefore can be used to estimate distance. The algorithm is implemented on the ARM Cortex-A7 platform using Embedded Linux and open-source computer vision library. The algorithm is tested on a USB web camera and 10 videos. This method is proved to be effective forobstacle distance measurement. The average absolute error of 0.0081m with a standard deviation of 0.02775 and the average error of 0.347% with a standard deviation of .63583 is observed for camera 1. The average absolute error of -0.21m with a standard deviation of 0.359 and the average error of -4.69% with a standard deviation of 6.99is observed for camera 2.The alert signal is generated at a distance of 3.33m for visually impaired during the navigation.The repeatability of the prototype is 90%.

Development of Prototype for Obstacle Detection for Visually Impaired using Defocus Measure

In the present experimental study, influence of process parameters in hybrid incremental sheet forming (HISF) is studied. Stretch forming combined with ISF is used for forming of conical parts. Stretch forming or preforming is done in order to get the intermediate shape and thickness distribution. On the same setup final part shape is obtained using the conventional ISF process. A low cost hemispherical-ended wooden preforming tool is used for the preforming purpose. Tools used for ISF process are also hemispherical-ended in shape but having smaller diameters and are made up of stainless steel SS-305. Experiments are designed according to design of experiment (DOE) Taguchi method. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to analyse the effect of process parameters namely preforming depth, tool diameter and pitch on response geometric accuracy. It is found that there is considerable effect of tool diameter on geometric accuracy of the formed part. Also, forming time is reduced considerably due to the preforming operation.
