Learning relies on the acquisition of different types of knowledge supported by perceived information. It leads to the development of new capacities, skills, values, understanding, and preferences. Its goal is the increasing of individual and group experience. The paper starts with introduction of learning. Semi-supervised learning addresses the problem of labeled data by using large amount of unlabeled data, together with the labeled data, to build better classifiers. Because semi-supervised learning requires less human effort and gives higher accuracy, it is of great interest both in theory and in practice. The paper discusses various important approaches to semi-supervised learning such as self-training, co-training(CO). expectation maximization (EM) .CO-EM. Then the use of graph-based methods is explained. Finally the use of combination of support vector machines (SVM) and K-means clustering method is explained. Cross Layer Optimization in Wireless Sensor Network

In this study, we report an approach for the adsorption and desorption of anionic (sulfonated) dyes from aqueous solution by doped polyaniline. In this study, we have synthesized PANI with two dopants, namely, p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA) and camphorsulfonic acid (CSA), and used these to adsorb various dyes. It was found that the doped PANI selectively adsorbs anionic dyes and does not adsorb cationic dyes. The adsorption of anionic dyes causes the variation in electrical conductivity of PANI, indicating its potential as a conductometric sensor for these dyes at very low concentration. The adsorbed dyes were desorbed from the polymer by using a basic aqueous solution. The adsorption and desorption kinetics of the dye in the presence of doped PANI were also determined. © 2009 American Chemical Society.

Adsorption and Desorption Kinetics of Anionic Dyes on Doped Polyaniline

Thiophene monomer structures containing different hetero aromatic rings (containing five-member/six-member, varying electronegativity, functional groups) were designed and synthesized. The influence of structural components of the side chain on the thermal stability of the polymers of the above monomers was analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis. The results show that thiophene-containing hetero aromatic side chains linked through six-member ring show high thermal stability. © 2009 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.

Thermal degradation studies of polythiophenes containing hetero aromatic side chains

This paper documents a systematic investigation on the predictability of short-term trends of crude oil prices on a daily basis. In stark contrast with longer-term predictions of crude oil prices, short-term prediction with time horizons of 1-3 days posits an important problem that is quite different from what has been studied in the literature. The problem of such short-term predicability is tackled through two aspects. The first is to examine the existence of linear or nonlinear dynamic processes in crude oil prices. This sub-problem is addressed with statistical analysis involving the Brock-Dechert-Scheinkman test for nonlinearity. The second aspect is to test the capability of artificial neural networks (ANN) for modeling the implicit nonlinearity for prediction. Four experimental models are designed and tested with historical data: (1) using only the lagged returns of filtered crude oil prices as input to predict the returns of the next days; this is used as the benchmark, (2) using only the information set of filtered crude oil futures price as input, (3) combining the inputs from the benchmark and second models, and (4) combing the inputs from the benchmark model and the intermarket information. In order to filter out the noise in the original price data, the moving averages of prices are used for all the experiments. The results provided sufficient evidence to the predictability of crude oil prices using ANN with an out-of-sample hit rate of 80%, 70%, and 61% for each of the next three days' trends. © 2009 Higher Education Press and Springer-Verlag GmbH.

Daily prediction of short-term trends of crude oil prices using neural networks exploiting multimarket dynamics

Demands for low power electronics have motivated designers to explore new approaches to VLSI circuits. The classical approaches of reducing energy dissipation in conventional CMOS circuits include reducing the supply voltages, node capacitances and switching frequencies. Energyrecovery circuitry, on the other hand, is a new promising approach to the design of VLSI circuits with very low energy dissipation. The supply voltage in adiabatic circuits in addition to providing the power to the circuit behaves as the clock of the circuit and for this reason is called power clock. One of the main concerns in the adiabatic logic circuits is the power clock generation. The design of a power clock generator is a challenging problem in this field. This paper discusses the design and simulation results of a VCO based power-clock supply generation for quasi-adiabatic circuits. Implementation and analysis of VCO based power-clock supply generator

The necessity of finding right skilled people, sharing resource and limitation on cost has made distributed software development indispensable. In a distributed development project, but are working collaboratively toward the outcome. Such offshore service providers follow the traditional process models. Agile practices promote development iterations, open collaboration, and process adaptability throughout the life cycle of the project. Adapting these practices in a distributed environment can help distributed development tackle the challenges of cultural incompatibility, leadership struggle and lack of trust. This paper describes the benefits of using Agile process and Scrum the iterative incremental process in Distributed Software development, and proposes two team structures for its implementation. © 2008 IEEE.

Applying agile principles for distributed software development

In this paper, we have proposed a novel approach for segmentation of textured images using combination of Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT) and Dual Tree Rotated complex Wavelet Filters (DT-RCWFs). DT-CWT is used because of its properties such as shift invariance, good directional selectivity, limited redundancy and efficient computation. RCWF sets provide important complementary information to the DT-CWT filter set by extracting texture features in 6 different directions which are 450 apart from decomposition directions of DT-CWT. Mean shift algorithm is used along with fuzzy c-means (FCM) to make segmentation automatic. The proposed technique is tested on a range of textured images including composite texture images, synthetic texture images as well as real scene images.
