The aim of this research paper is to study the ultimate and service behaviour of ferro-cement roof slab panels and the comparative study of panels via using welded square mesh and expanded mesh. The test results of four different panels of 20 mm thick having number of layers varying one to four presented. The parameters of study include: the effect of the percentage of wire mesh reinforcement by volume and the structural shape of the panels on the ultimate flexural strength, first crack load, crack spacing and load-deformation behaviour. The results indicate that the use of monolithic shallow edge ferro-cement beams with the panels considerably improves the service and ultimate behaviour of the panels, irrespective of the number of steel layers used.

Comparative Study of Ferro-Cement Panel Using Welded Square Mesh and Expanded Mesh

Resources are the most important part of any construction project. Total cost of project is based on resources. ForIndia the construction industry has contributed an estimated ₹ 6708 billion to the national GDP in 2011-12 which is ashare of around 8%. This sector is both labour and machine intensive and provides employment to more than 35million people, which is around 27% population of India. So, optimization of resources plays a vital role in saving ofvaluable natural resources and cost which is required to generate them. So, in this paper concept of optimization isunderstood clearly and try to implement it on bridge construction site. The case study is selected as Hyderabad metroproject. In this project concreting of precast segment of bridge is considered. The main objective of study is to optimizethe resource utilization on concreting activity by applying some operational research techniques such as transportationmodel, assignment model, EOQ etc. The paper also discussed the concept of multi agent negotiation used on site.Construction projects are unique in nature because construction activities are varies from project to project. Thus, itis not possible to apply result of optimization from any particular case study to any other construction site but the ideaor technique regarding optimization till remains same for other sites.

Resources Optimization in Casting of Segments on Bridge Construction

During 1900s, the only imperative for stormwater management was removal. With increasing urbanisation and degradation of receiving water quality, however, it has become essential to manage stormwater in a holistic, sustainable way. Yet the various factors in developing countries make the management of stormwater a very difficult task. The purposes of this study are to identify the constraints and problems of stormwater in typical urbanised cities of India. This study also presents a preliminary attempt to define objectives for developing a decision-making system for sustainable stormwater management. Relevant literature for defining the objectives is studied and a case study of Pune city in India has been taken for further analysis. The quantity and quality of stormwater and other related data has been collected to identify the constraints of existing system. Lastly, objectives are defined which could be further used to develop assessment criteria and a decision support system.

Identifying objectives for sustainable stormwater management in urban Indian perspective: a case study

Proper planning and scheduling is very important in construction projects for reducing and controlling delays of the project. Substantial amounts of time, money, resources are wasted each year in a construction industry due to improper planning and scheduling. With globalization the construction projects have become vast and complex. Planning of such projects requires huge amount of paperwork, which can be reduced with the help of project planning software. Providing good planning, proper organization, sufficient flow of resources to a project cannot automatically achieve desired result. A warning mechanism must be present which can alert the organization about its possible success and failures throughout the project. The main objectives of this study are to plan, schedule, and track a residential project with help of primavera software, study the results generated, it is possible to suggest which method is suitable for the selected residential project. Also to recommend measures to the organization for enhancing their project planning skills for similar projects in future.

Role of Green Buildings in Sustainable construction

A passive hybrid energy dissipation system (PHEDS) consists of rate dependent devices inseries with rate independent devices, is installed in Steel moment resisting frame (SMRF) toimprove energy dissipation capacity while any seismic event. Analytical development ofmodel in SAP 2000 and performance based design of energy dissipating devices (EDD), werethe basic objectives of the study. High damping rubber damper (HDRD) is a rate dependentdevice whereas elastic springs and buckling restrained braces (BRB) are rate independentdevices. The analytical models confirmed the expected phased behavior and energydissipation capabilities. An incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) was carried out to comparethe effect of energy dissipating devices on overall seismic response of SMRF, a dual BRBSMRFsystem, and a dual PHEDS-SMRF system. The results demonstrate that the PHEDShas potential as an energy dissipation system and improve the performance of the structureduring a seismic event.

In the present paper, effect of height of building on base shear, lateral forces and storey drift is evaluated by using STAAD software and the results are compared with IS1893 (Part1:2002). For these purpose seismic coefficient method (SCM) specified in IS1893 (Part1:2002) is taken into consideration and results are obtained in STAAD by SCM. The study includes the modeling of two buildings having plan areas 15 m x9 m and 25mx15m and the height is varied from 3m, 6m, 9m and 12m. The study is conducted by varying the geometrical properties of the structure but the seismic properties are kept constant. The buildings are located in zone II region. The results obtained for base shear and other design parameters obtained from STAAD software match with IS1893:2002. Spring mass model with the lateral forces are also plotted for the different buildings. Percentage change in storey shear for the different buildings is also evaluated. It can be observed that as the height and area of building increases the base shear and storey drift increases.

Study of base shear and storey drift by dynamic analysis

The seismic vulnerability of steel moment resisting frame with passive dampers is assessed with 13 different seismic resisting systems. The structural frames are analysed and designed for the loading conditions in Pune. The stiffness effect on the stories is demonstrated through the lateral displacement profile of the building. Hybrid passive dampers with buckling restrained brace of mild steel and aluminium are used to improve lateral stiffness of the structure. Mild steel braces have increased lateral strength and proved to be good energy dissipating devices. The aluminium sections are chosen as energy dissipating device due to its low yield strength. Aluminium buckling restrained braces has improved performance of the structure in the form of reduced storey drift and displacement as compared to basic steel moment resisting frame. By the use of these devices either alone or in combination with BRB, the performance of SMRF has been improved significantly. Copyright © 2015 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Effect of energy dissipating devices on storey drift and displacement by nonlinear time history analysis

Anthropogenic alterations have affected urban hydrology in India and have generated a wide range of hydrological problems. Such alterations include increase in directly-connected impervious cover thus reducing natural groundwater recharge. In the past urban runoff was largely viewed as a nuisance, but within the new paradigm of sustainability, this water is recognized as a potential resource. This research paper discusses the importance of managing stormwater sustainably by recharging groundwater sources. It indicates the potential of stormwater harvesting, when properly managed, as a tool to counter depleting water sources and ever-increasing demand for water. The present study aims at developing a potential stormwater recharge zone map for a sub watershed in Pune city, India using GIS. Five classes of thematic maps have been integrated to prepare the final map. Each class is assigned a weightage depending on its influence on the recharge of stormwater. The resultant map (potential stormwater recharge zone map) thus prepared is classified into four classes: Very good, good, moderate and poor.
