Process piping play an extremely important rolein Petroleum refineries throughout the world as a means forcarrying Hydrocarbons from one location to other. Theseprocess piping are subjected to Corrosion over a period ofoperational time, which is the destructive attack of materialby reaction with its service fluids containing corrodents suchas Sulphur, H2S, HCl, CO2, organic and inorganic acids andexternal environments thus causing a natural potentialhazard associated with oil and gas transportation facilities.Various potential damage mechanisms are identified for preheated crude inlet piping to atmospheric distillation columnusing American Petroleum Institute standardssuch as API 581and API 571. These damage mechanisms consist mainly ofHigh Temperature Sulfidic and Naphthenic acid corrosion.Corrosion rates for this damage mechanism is identified fortwo crudes namely Kuwait crude and Arab Extra Light Crudeusing API 581. Retirement thickness for this piping iscalculated using ASME B 31.3. Further remaining life of thispiping is estimated using corrosion rate, present thickness andretirement thickness of the piping.

Determination of corrosion rates and remaining life of piping using API and ASME standards in oil and gas industries.

Pure water is very important for human life. All agriculture, industrial and commercial sector need water of required quality. Pollution of water is due to all these sectors. Waste from all sectors is entering freshwater everyday. The demand for water is increasing while water availability is less because of improper waste disposal. The removing pollutant from all water resources is costly so there is need for new technologies, which are less expensive, require less maintenance and are energy effective. Chromium is widely used in electroplating, alloying, leather tanning, corrosion protection, etc. [1]. Chromite mining and processing units produce waste and effluent containing chromium in two oxidation states, for example, Cr(VI) and Cr(III) in aqueous solution. Cr(VI) oxidizing properties is dangerous due to carcinogenicity [2]. The potable water allows only 0.05 mg/lit Cr(VI) because of toxicity [3]. Higher concentrations are in the industrial and mining effluents, which crosses permissible limit. © 2017 by Apple Academic Press, Inc.

Removal of Cr(VI) from wastewater using red gram husk as adsorbent

Purpose - This paper aims to review the quad-porosity shale system from a production standpoint. Understanding the complex but coupled flow mechanisms in such reservoirs is essential to design appropriate completions and further, optimally produce them. Dual-porosity and dual permeability models are most commonly used to describe a typical shale gas reservoir. Design/methodology/approach - Characterization of such reservoirs with extremely low permeability does not aptly capture the physics and complexities of gas storage and flow through their existing nanopores. This paper reviews the methods and experimental studies used to describe the flow mechanisms of gas through such systems, and critically recommends the direction in which this work could be extended. A quad-porosity shale system is defined not just as porosity in the matrix and fracture, but as a combination of multiple porosity values. Findings - It has been observed from studies conducted that shale gas production modeled with conventional simulator/model is seen to be much lower than actually observed in field data. This paper reviews the various flow mechanisms in shale nanopores by capturing the physics behind the actual process. The contribution of Knudson diffusion and gas slippage, gas desorption and gas diffusion from Kerogen to total production is studied in detail. Originality/value - The results observed from experimental studies and simulation runs indicate that the above effects should be considered while modeling and making production forecast for such reservoirs. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

Oil pipeline wax deposition is one of the major problems facing in the crude oil transportation flow line from the offshore to onshore through pipe. The wax deposition occurs because of the crude oil fluids temperature is decrease during the transportation process and cause solidification of wax components. Wax deposition in oil and gas production is one of the major flow assurance challenges the industry faces today. Wax deposition is mostly a temperature driven process which means that subsea pipelines are especially vulnerable. Wax precipitates from oil when it is cooled and the wax may deposit on pipeline walls. Wall deposits can lead to severe problems and need to be removed in an efficient way. It is difficult to perform accurate deposition measurements on real pipelines. The present study intends to use MATLAB simulator to predict wax deposited in a onshore pipeline using MATZAIN model. It provides idea of how wax is being deposited in pipeline and also suitable suggestions are also provided.

Prediction of Wax Deposition in pipelines using MATLAB Simulator: Case study of ABC field pipeline

In the present study, degradation of petroleum industry wastewater has been investigated through laboratory experiments by employing heterogeneous photocatalytic process. A photocatalytic reactor was used for the advanced oxidation. The industrial wastewater was characterized. Photocatalytic activity of semiconductor such as titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been investigated. An attempt has been made to study the effect of process parameters through amount of catalyst, and operating pH on photocatalytic degradation of petroleum industry wastewater. The experiments were carried out by varying pH (2-11), amount of catalyst (0.25-1.5 g/L). Optimal suspended catalyst concentration, fluid pH and temperature were obtained at amounts of near 1 g/L, 3 and 50 °C, respectively. The maximum rate of degradation was observed in acidic medium at pH 3 and maximum reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 60%. © 2015 Scientific Publishers.

2D Electrical Conductivity Structure by Magnetotelluric Method Over Eastern Indian Craton

A remote reference audio-magnetotelluric (AMT) study has been carried out in Bakreswar Geothermal Province to map the possible geothermal reservoir of the area. The heat flow of BGP is two and half times of average global heat flow and is nearly equal to that of young oceanic ridge. A NS (∼16 km) profile delineated a geothermal reservoir of resistivity less than 10 ohm-m at a depth of about 3 km of large horizontal extent(>2 km). The sensitivity analysis suggests that the delineated reservoir is less sensitive. BGP belongs to high temperature volcanic region which is dominated by meteoric fluid. These fluids are heated at greater depth and rises by convection to near-surface depths, where it is entrained into the overall pattern of groundwater flow. BGP thus supports the conceptual model of magmatic geothermal plays volcanic field rather than hydrothermal alteration.

Bakreswar Geothermal reservoir revealed from audio magnetotelluric (AMT) results

Ultra low permeability rocks such as shales exhibit complex fracture networks which must be discretely characterized in our reservoir models to evaluate stimulation designs and completion strategies properly. The pressure (Darcy’s law) and composition driven (Fick’s law) flow mechanisms when combined result in composition, pressure and saturationdependent slippage factor. The approach used in this study is to utilize pressure-dependent transmissibility multipliers to incorporate apparent gas-permeability changes resulting from multi-mechanism flows in commercial simulators. This work further expounds on the effectiveness of the theory by presenting a descriptive analysis between two commercially utilized numerical simulators. The applicability of dynamic slippage as an effective flow mechanism governing gas flow mechanisms within the computational environment of two different simulators is attempted in this analysis. Results indicate that slippage-governed flow in modelling shale reservoirs should not be ignored.
