The present investigation deals with separation of various types of nitrophenols using SILM technique. Several ionic liquids were developed and the SILM parameters such as role of ILs, feed and strip phase concentration, wastewater pH, salt effect and mixture of pollutants were thoroughly investigated. The percentage extraction and stripping, flux, apparent rate constants and selectivity were evaluated. The selected ammonium IL being more polar than the imidazolium IL showed better separation of 2-nitrophenol. The SILM constituting an ammonium IL with SCN anion exhibited extraction efficiency of &gt;96% and Ka: 0.264 h−1. The change in feed concentration showed maximum transport of nitrophenol at 300 ppm concentration (Ka: 0.673 h−1). The membranes were repeated for 4 cycles which demonstrated good stability for runs of more than 48 hours. The selectivity of 2-nitrophenol, 2,4-dinitrophenol, 2,4,6- trinitrophenol over nitrobenzene was 26, 36 and 58, respectively. The morphology of membranes was studied by using FTIR and FE-SEM and the transport mechanism was elucidated. With the optimized parameters, a concentration factor of 7 can be achieved in the present SILM system. The application of SILM including ammonium IL with SCN anion shows a promising potential for the treatment of various types of nitrophenol bearing wastewater. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

The presence of meso, macro, and microplastics (MPs) in aquatic environments has raised concerns due to their potential risks to aquatic as well as human life. Though plastics are considered to be inert in nature, MPs with toxic additives and accumulated contaminants have harmful ecological effects. Reports of absorption of MPs by internal tissues and toxicity in vital organs such as lung cells, liver, and brain cells have proved its serious health hazards. The study of plastic debris in the aquatic environment deserves special attention due to its ecotoxicological impact. This review presents a detailed account of the assessment of plastic debris in marine as well as freshwater environments. The formation of MPs and their sources, sampling, isolation, identification and characterization methods adopted, and the prevalence of MPs in aquatic life are discussed. To the best of our knowledge, the present article is a first-ever comprehensive review covering the entire of India. Our review finds that, so far, very few studies have been carried out, and there is a paucity of information, especially on the prevalence of plastic debris in the freshwater environment, fish, and other aquatic animals in India. While major studies have been done at various coastal locations in the southern part of India and a few studies in the rest of India, south-eastern states remain neglected. Toxicological studies on various life forms, including humans, are lacking. The present review also fills the gap in our knowledge of the various locations studied across India and can guide future research. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.

Superhydrophobic Coating Using TiO2 NPs/PMHS Composite for Self‐Cleaning Application

Polyaniline and its nanocomposites have emerged as desirable electrode materials for supercapacitors. However, achieving specific capacitance with long-term cyclic stability is still a challenge. The present study reports on novel hierarchically porous and cross-linked polyaniline synthesized by a method employing aniline (monomer) and phytic acid (dopant acid) in the presence of octyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (OTAB) surfactant. The electrochemical performance of the phytic acid doped sample has been compared with HCl doped samples, the former being superior, i.e., a specific capacitance of 523 and 325 F g-1 at current densities of 0.25 and 10 A g-1, respectively. Additionally, the same possess excellent cycling stability with retention of ~88% of its initial capacitance over 10,000 charge-discharge cycles. Further, the phytic acid doped sample exhibited a lower equivalent series resistance (0.98 Ω cm2) than the HCl doped sample (1.26 Ω cm2). These results reveal the capability of the phytic acid doped hierarchical polyaniline sample as a promising active material for electrochemical applications. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd
