The word isoparametric is used when the same shape functions called as interpolation functions [N] to define theelement's geometric shape as well as used to define the displacements within the element. The Isoparametric elementequations are formed by using an intrinsic coordinate systems i.e. natural coordinate system that is defined byelement geometry and It is not defined by the orientation of the element in the global-coordinate system. In this paperthe Isoparametric formulation for simple bar element is explained first and it will lead to a simple mathematicalcomputation. Then the Numerical Integration for Gauss Quadrature for two and three sampling points is explained.

Isoparametric element formulation for curved boundaries

Off-highway construction equipment sees structural loads of varying magnitude during their life. Load cases used in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) often tend to be conservative due to uncertainty in load directions and magnitudes. For cost-sensitive markets like India, the overdesign caused by such load cases tends to shadow the product’s market competitiveness. There is an increasing need of developing and using ‘optimal’ load cases during design. Method of ‘Load Reconstruction’ holds promise in this regard. It generates load estimates using strains; exactly the reverse of what an FEA does. It makes use of existing strain gage data to generate these loads using certain mathematical calculations. In the present Study, manual gear shift lever of an off-road vehicle is considered. Using the ‘Load Reconstruction’ technique upon the field test data, operator hand loads during actual gear-shifting are generated.

Reconstruction of load histories using strain gauges

Knuckle is a main member in the automobile steering system. The load transfer to the front axle is carried outby the steering knuckle. Steering knuckle is mainly a cast product which has inherent brittleness. Many timesthis brittleness is the main cause of failure of Knuckle under fatigue fracture. To eliminate this, the centralportion of the knuckle should be made of ductile weld structure. The present work is concentrated on theelimination of central region to replace with a ductile weld structure. Initially the original knuckle structure isbuilt using three dimensional modelling software and drafted for dimensions.

Topology optimization of steering knuckle using finite element analysis

This paper presents the study of different trends in powertrain optimization which includes tackling the major problem of friction, improving functioning of alternative or hybrid powertrains, clutch engagement control in mechanical powertrains as well as study of the case study of efficiency improvement on powertrain design done by VOLVO involving Super truck.

A review on automotive power train parameter optimization

Even though water (R718) is one of the oldest refrigerants, it is very difficult to use it in compression refrigeration cycle due to its low molecular mass, high boiling point, low specific cooling capacity and a relatively higher value of kinematic viscosity. This paper gives us a glimpse about one of the technique which can be used to use water in compression cycle and also compares its theoretical analysis with the conventional refrigerants already being used. This paper can study the effect on various parameters under similar operation conditions for the comparative study of water and other refrigerants.

Automated Fuel Station with Fake Currency Detection

Radiators of different shapes and sizes require different radiator core builder machines to suit their configurationsand dimensions. We present a design of such a machine that will be used for forming the tube-fin matrix as a part ofassembly of radiator cores. It improves upon the existing type of machine by using a single structure for the entireassembly of radiator core. Also, it can be used to assemble cores of different sizes by incorporating perpendicular linearmotion rails which can change the distance between the tube holders. This makes the machine very flexible and alsosaves time and floor space.

A Magneto rheological Fluid (MRF) is a Smart fluid whose viscosity can be varied by application of magnetic field. The MR Fluid has vast applications in various engineering as well as day to day life. There is huge potential that this revolutionary material will provide many leading edge applications. The fluid has applications in various fields such as automotive industry, household applications, prosthetics, civil engineering, hydraulics, brakes and clutches, etc. Also there is a possible application of the fluid in reducing the effect of Gun Recoil. This paper will describe these applications and working of proposed application.

Magnetorheological Fluid and its Applications

The extensive effort has made to develop the intermittent solid adsorption system that promises good alternative for solar refrigeration. Most research methods have used activated carbon-methanol for working pairs, and this has been considered as the most suitable working pair for solar solid adsorption Refrigeration. Going through the existing literature, it is revealed that there are no investigations on the simultaneous use of water cooled condenser, bypass way for adsorption process. Many researchers studied on TIM (transparent insulation material) for increasing the efficiency of solar collector. But, in this study, it is analyzed the solar powered refrigerator using polycarbonate glass, water cooled condenser with natural conduction, bypass way for adsorption to enhance the performance of solar adsorption system. Using this cyclical process it is possible to obtained cooling temperature of 11˚C. For increasing the effectiveness of solar heating, polycarbonate glass is used to achieve generator temperature up to 114˚C. In this system two valves with provision for bypass is made for easy operation and maintaining the flow of methanol during day and night. The solar powered activated charcoal-methanol paired system gives the cooling temperature up to 11˚Cfor 6kg water and achieve system COP=0.02.

Experimental Investigation of Solar Adsorption Refrigeration System using Activated Charcoal-Methanol Working Pair

Central receiver system (CRS) is one of the type of concentrated solar power (CSP) technology which consists of heliostat field, receiver and power generation unit. Heliostats are nothing but the mirrors which concentrate solar radiation at one point on receiver which is located at the top of a high tower. Out of the total cost of system heliostat field contributes 50% and leads to about 47% of the annual energy losses. So placing of heliostats in field is most important in order to minimize optical losses and indirectly minimizes energy losses. In this Paper work, heliostat field is designed for no shadowing, blocking losses and optimized cosine efficiency for small field area specifically for Pune location. An algorithm is developed for heliostat distribution in heliostat field as per design using a MATLAB.
