In the present study, heat transfer from hot water to cold water by double pipe heat exchanger for plain tube and plain tube with twisted wire brush inserts is experimentally investigated. The experiments were carried out for counter flow configuration with hot water in the inner tube and cold water flowing in the annulus through outer tube. All the experiments were conducted by varying hot water Reynolds number at constant cold water Reynolds number in the laminar flow region. The horizontal double pipe heat exchanger is made from straight copper tube with inner tube and outer tube diameters of 15 and 25 mm, respectively. The twisted wire brush inserts were fabricated by winding a 0.2 mm diameter of the copper wires over a 2 mm diameter two twisted iron core-rods. All the required parameters like inlet and outlet temperature of hot and cold water, flow rates of both hot and cold water were measured using appropriate instruments. Effect of inlet fluid temperature and other relevant parameters on heat transfer characteristics and pressure drop were studied. The convective heat transfer coefficient of double pipe heat exchanger under various operating conditions was determined.

Experimental study on heat transfer characteristics of horizontal concentric tube using twisted wire brush inserts

The paper throws light on advancement done in order to increase ride comfort of driver in an automobile.These road vibrations are measured in form of pulses and according to it relations are plotted against damping force required for stability of passenger seat.. This work investigates propagation of shock pulses from road conditions by presentic different mathematical models of quarter car semi active suspension system. A 2DOF system is first studied, which was then modified to three degrees of freedom with fuzzy control of quarter car system and afterwards 2 additional degrees of freedom were added to a quarter car model. A skyhook system was then introduced which used with two different sensors to measure two different masses. Finally a critical comparative study was conducted at end of each model to compare performance characteristics of passive (classical type) damping system and semi active suspension system with MR damper employed to quarter car system.

Semi-Active Suspension system with MR Damper for car seat vibration-A Review

In a solar central receiver system, solar radiation is concentrated on a tower mountedheat exchanger (receiver) by the use of mirrors called heliostats. These thermal systemsare able to reach high temperatures and to obtain such temperatures; a high solar flux isrequired. This is achievable by aiming all of the heliostats at the center of the target.Due to this, high flux gradients over the receiver surface area and between the outer andinner surfaces of the receiver material can exist. These thermal gradients account fordifferences in temperatures on the receiver which results in thermal stresses leading toelastic and potentially plastic deformation of the receiver material. To eradicate thethermal stresses, the aim points of the heliostats can be managed such that the fluxdensity distribution over the receiver aperture is decreased and homogenized. Theprimary objective of this paper is to develop an aiming strategy specifically for smallexperimental heliostat fields. There are different methods for eliminating thetemperature gradient on the receiver plate like Aiming point Strategy, FieldModifications, Sizing the receiver. The SOLTRACE software, developed by NREL(National Renewable Energy Laboratory, United States) for the calculation of fluxdistribution maps has been implemented and used for simulating the solar field. Theanalysis is carried out for the flux distribution obtained by this simulation with aimingstrategy and without aiming strategy. Based on the results obtained from the simulationwith aiming point strategy in SOLTRACE software the homogenized flux image sizewill be optimized.

Numerical Simulation of Aiming Point Strategy Method for Small Heliostat Field for Optimization of the Receiver Size

The suspension system is very crucial when considering the ride comfort of vehicle driver and passengers. Most of the research these days is based on the use of semi-active suspensions for vehicle suspension system. This system having a semi-active suspension with MR dampers is promising way of improving the ride comfort. This paper reviews the various ways of improving the ride comfort using various mathematical models, experimental work and gives an overall conclusion of why using a semi-active suspension system with MR dampers is better than using a passive system or an active system..

A Review of half-car model vibration system using Magneto rheological Dampers

The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is widely used to reduce NOx emissions in diesel engines. However an excessive EGR rate in the cylinders leads to reduction of NOx and increment of particulate matter (PM) or misfire. In order to overcome this problem, the EGR mass flow rate should be controlled precisely. To control the EGR mass flow rate accurately, the EGR mass flow rate should be estimated correctly. This paper presents a physics based model of Variable Geometry Turbocharged diesel engine to estimate EGR mass flow rate. The diesel engine model includes subsystems of intake manifold model, exhaust manifold model, variable geometry turbocharger model, effective area for EGR valve model and exhaust gas temperature model. Models of the individual subsystem are implemented in MATLABTM/SIMULINKTM environment. These models are coupled together to form overall model for EGR mass flow rate estimation for variable geometry turbocharged diesel engine. Experimental data available from testing is used for simulation. Most of model is based on fundamental laws of physics and hence generic. The overall model has five inputs i.e. engine speed, fuel supply rate, intake manifold temperature, percentage VGT opening and EGR valve opening. The output of model is EGR mass flow rate and EGR ratio. Typical step input is provided to the engine model to study effects on output variables. The model is simulated for transient engine operating condition by sudden increasing or decreasing engine speed at different loading conditions. The estimated EGR mass flow rate and EGR ratio are found to be in acceptable range.

A Physics based Model for Estimation of EGR Mass Flow Rate

All the researchers have done study of engine performance parameters with addition of H2 or O2 and with turbocharger & supercharger. I have done experimentation on intake side development of SI engine. No any research should be done on injecting the oxyrich air into intake manifold by using pure oxygen. So this research to improve the performance of SI engine & reduces the amount of fuel consumption & due to complete combustion the pollution of SI engine is also reduced. Therefore the research may be done on oxyrich air for combustion of fuel in SI engine. Here I have found brake specific fuel consumption with and without oxyrich air energizer, determined brake thermal efficiency of the system. Also I have checked all emission parameters of SI engine with and without oxyrich air energizer. I could find Mechanical & Volumetric efficiency of engine with and without oxygen blending. For developing the experimental set up for oxyrich air energizer, I used computerized MPFI 4 stroke petrol engine test rig.

Performance Evaluation of Four Stroke SI Engine with and without Oxyrich Air Energizer at 1000rpm

This paper presents the study of review of aluminum foam application in sound absorption technology fabrication method, properties and application of aluminum foam discus in studies. The Open and semi-opened aluminum foams are good sound absorbers and closed-cell aluminum foams are poor sound absorbers. Closed-cell aluminum foams can have good sound absorption capacity after some processes such as hole drilling, rolling and compression. The foam thickness increased then the sound absorption peak appeared at low frequency is shifted towards lower frequencies as the sample thickness increased. The sound absorption capacity also depends on pore size and pore opening size. The pore opening size decreasing the height of low-frequency peak shifted towards lower frequencies. The increasing the pore size with the height of low-frequency peak increased.

Review on Application of Aluminum Foam in Sound Absorption Technology

Diversity in devices, lack of systematic device testing strategy has always led to open questions in the customer’s mind saying “Is the device tested correctly?” Testing of any device integrated with System Under Test (SUT) is certainly different and more complex than testing any traditional software application, as it a comprehensive testing which includes device and the infrastructure of SUT. A systematic device testing approach plays a very important role in getting the device and its supporting traditional software application released in the market with in time ensuring high quality. This white paper focuses on the lessons learnt and experiences shared along with some guiding principles that can be considered at the time of planning a systematic testing strategy. This strategy can be followed for any Mass Notification application that includes manual as well as automation testing approach in order to cover functional and nonfunctional testing. This paper will also revisit some of the most common pitfalls and pain points that often are snowed under during the test execution phase for any Mass Notification device.

Approach for Mass Notification Device Testing

New regulations and standards for noise reductions and emission compel the automobile industries to make some improvements in the design of silencer for attaining desired noise reduction. In this project, modifications are desired in the silencer design of upcoming Eicher tractor to fulfill the current standards. The current noise level at Operator Ear Level (OEL) is 97dB (decibels), it is desired to reduce it to 94 dB and below. Also the maximum backpressure of 50 mm of Hg is to be maintained. New design should be analyzed with respect to both acoustics and back pressure. As per the various studies reactive mufflers with extended inlet and outlet pipes into muffler, which is not present in current design can significantly reduce the noise level. Helmholtz resonator can also be introduced to cancel the noise of dominating frequencies. Also a sound absorbing material like glass fibers and steel wool can be incorporated for better results. Further, the design modifications are to be verified for noise reduction by COMSOL Multi-physics software. Also the numerical results for transmission loss will be verified with experimentally measured results.

Review paper on Design and Development of Muffler to Optimize Transmission Losses

The packaging industry has advanced leaps and bounds over the few years. The pouch packaging machines alsoknown as Form Fill and Seal Machines (FFS Machines) are available over a wide capacity range. A low costautomated packing machine can be used by small enterprises which would help reduce their cost of plant. This lowcost automated machine uses simple pneumatic, mechanical and electric systems. In this paper we have presentedone such low cost pouch filling machine. An additional weighing and pouring mechanism has been added to increasethe accuracy of the system. The process flow has been described in detail. Various processes involved in the pouchpackaging are neatly aligned and properly timed to get optimum production rate. A mechatronics system, developedfor this machine, which takes feedback from sensors and accordingly controls the manipulators has been introducedin this paper. A microcontroller system is used for this particular machine. A detailed cost comparison between aconventional machine and the one developed by us has been presented.
