EMC Evaluation of SMPS

Partitioning a video into shots is an important step for video indexing. We have presented the performance of various traditional metrics that are generally used to detect shot boundaries. In this paper, we evaluated shot boundary detection metrics, such as likelihood ratio and color ratio histogram in Red Green Blue (RGB) and Hue Saturation, Value (HSV) color space for three different action and thriller movies. These movies consist of large number of frames with object and camera motion. The pixel difference and Chi-square shot boundary detection metrics in Luma and Chrominance Components (YUV) color space has been tested for five different movies. The results were evaluated in terms of Recall, Precision, and F1 measure for all these movies. It has been observed that these results are affected by the disturbance due to the motion in the consecutive frames. The false positives and miss detection of shot boundaries in all the tested metrics are due to fast camera and object motion. An algorithm has been proposed for shot boundary detection by using dual tree complex wavelet transform in the presence of motion. Performance comparison of the proposed algorithm with the traditional metrics validates its effectiveness in terms of improved Recall, Precision, and F1 score. © 2011 by the IETE.

Performance evaluation of shot boundary detection metrics in the presence of object and camera motion

The efficiency in an internal combustion engine ranges from 25% to 35%. About 40% of the overall fuel energy losses in a combustion engine are waste heat which is blown out with the exhaust gases and 30% is cooled away by the vehicle's radiator. Even if a small fraction of the waste heat could be turned into useful energy again it would be a step in the right direction of improving fuel economy. Being one of the promising new devices for an automotive waste heat recovery, thermoelectric generators (TEG) are used now days. This paper focuses on generation of electrical energy with the help of thermoelectric power generator. Thermoelectric modules are used to convert thermal energy from a temperature gradient to electrical energy and it works on basic principle of Seebeck effect. Hence the selection of thermoelectric materials plays very important role for energy conversion in thermoelectric applications. Sizing up the heat exchanger is based on the size, orientation and number of modules. After designing suitable heat exchanger, the thermoelectric modules are integrated on the heat exchanger for performance analysis.. In this work, the effort is on the performance of thermoelectric generator under various engine operating conditions like engine speed, mass flow rate of exhaust gas.

Thermoelectric Power Generation using Waste-Heat Energy from Internal Combustion Engine

Energy plays an important role in the development of any nation. But with the present rate of consumption, conventional sources of energy like natural gas and petroleum will be exhausted shortly. That's why the concept of using bioenergy is giving attention worldwide. Hence, biofuels appears to be a proven renewable energy option. In this paper, we address the issue of producing vegetable oil from Jatropha Curcas seeds, using both mechanical and solvent extraction methods. We are also interested in the production of biodiesel from the raw oil obtained (i.e transesterification or alcoholysis). Results showed that solvent extraction produced high quality oil than mechanical extraction. It was also found that parameters such as oil temperature, reaction temperature, ratio of alcohol to oil and purity of reactants are factors that affect the transesterification process. The use of KOH instead of NaOH as catalyst gave better quality of biodiesel.

Biodiesel production from Jatropha curcas oil

Poly(o-anisidine)-tin oxide (POA-SnO 2) nanocomposites has been investigated for the fabrication of low temperature operative (100 °C) liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sensor. The POA-SnO 2 nanocomposites have been synthesized through an in situ chemical polymerization of o-anisidine in presence of SnO 2 nanoparticles. The POA-SnO 2 nanocomposite shows better LPG sensing properties than that of pure POA. The nanocomposite with 50 wt. SnO 2 exhibits an excellent LPG sensing characteristics at the operating temperature of 100 C such as higher relative gas response (∼23.47 to 3.4 of LPG), extremely rapid response (∼6 s), fast recovery (∼33 s), good reproducibility, and remarkable selectivity. The application of POA-SnO 2 nanocomposites for fabrication of the LPG sensor was demonstrated. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.

One of the challenging problems of gas production is the liquid loading of a gas well. It is the inability of the produced gas to remove the produced liquids from the well bore. This phenomenon has a significantly negative impact on gas well production rate and reservoir pressure due to build up of liquids in the well bore. The accumulated liquid may be in the form of formation water, condensed water or hydrocarbons condensate which acts as a hindrance to the formation gas getting produced. The ultimate recovery of gas is dependent on the economic removal of accumulated liquids, to allow the gas to get produced. This paper discusses a new idea of using dielectric heating using microwaves to heat and vaporize the water and hydrocarbons in the wellbore, if present. As a result of this heating, the fluid density decreases and the gas and vapours flow naturally to the surface. The frequency of microwaves in general is 2450 MHz; depending on the need, the frequency can be varied. Experiments were carried out on the use of this technology and the results are encouraging. This paper discusses this new technique, results obtained from conducted experiments, and provides advantages to the current methods. Copyright 2011, Society of Petroleum Engineers.
