The transport industry is a major contributor to both local pollution and greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). The key challenge today is to mitigate the adverse impacts on the environment caused by road transportation. The volatile market prices and diminishing supplies of fuel have led to an unprecedented interest in battery electric vehicles (BEVs). In addition, improvements in motor efficiencies and significant advances in battery technology have made it easier for BEVs to compete with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. This paper describes and assesses the latest technologies in different elements of the BEV: powertrain architectures, propulsion and regeneration systems, energy storage systems and charging techniques. The current and future trends of these technologies have been reviewed in detail. Finally, the key issue of electric vehicle component recycling (battery, motor and power electronics) has been discussed. Global emission regulations are pushing the industry towards zero or ultra-low emission vehicles. Thus, by 2025, most cars must have a considerable level of powertrain electrification. As the market share of electric vehicles increases, clear trends have emerged in the development of powertrain systems. However, some significant barriers must be overcome before appreciable market penetration can be achieved. The objective of the current study is to review and provide a complete picture of the current BEV technology and a framework to assist future research in the sector.

A review on powertrain subsystems and charging technology in battery electric vehicles: Current and future trends

Bone density is a factor that plays a crucial role in achieving predictable osseointegration and the success of implants. It is very important for the dentist to have proper knowledge about bone density so as to come up with a proper surgery plan; hence an in depth understanding of bone density and its variations has become an important issue to evaluate. The intent of this review article is to discuss the various classifications present to determine the bone density and to study the importance and relevance of bone density in the field of orthodontics. Many clinical studies have demonstrated the relation between bone density and various factors related to the success of dental implants. In this article various works of literature pertaining to the significance bone density has been reviewed and complied; specifically works related to the influence if bone density on load transfer, implant geometry, primary stability and various surgical techniques. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Biomechanical consideration of bone density and its influence on stress distribution characteristics of dental implants

Concentrated Solar Energy Soldering (CSES) technique is applied for soldering newly developed Gallium added Sn–0.7Cu Lead-Free solder and evaluated with CSI (Conventional Soldering Iron) solder joints. Tensile strength, bending/flexural strength, microhardness, optical microstructures, SEM microstructures and EDS analysis were utilized to relate CSES solder joints with CSI solder joints. Salt spray test (SST) was employed for corrosion analysis of CSES and CSI solder joints. Experimental findings disclose that the tensile response, bending strength and microhardness of the CSES solder joints were very nearly identical to that of the CSI solder joints. It was witnessed that post-corrosion, the tensile strength, bending strength and microhardness for CSES and CSI solder joints lowered. Further, with Gallium add-on, microstructure and mechanical properties enhanced. The results establish CSES technique as a green technology and a prospective alternative to CSI method. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

Microstructure, Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Analysis of Sn–0.7Cu + Ga Solder Joints Developed Using Green Concentrated Solar Energy Soldering Method

Geopolymer's are ceramic materials which have been dominating industrial and research sectors around the world in the past century. New state-of-the-art materials designed with the help of geopolymerisation reactions are opening up new applications and procedures, and transforming ideas that have been taken for granted in inorganic and mineral chemistry. Geopolymer is found in various applications. These applications include automotive and aerospace industries, non-ferrous foundries and metallurgy, civil engineering, cements and concretes, ceramics and plastics industries, waste management, art and decoration, retrofit of buildings, etc. This paper summaries the recent developments in geopolymer green technology and concludes with recommending this greener, more sustainable material for various industrial applications. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. The magnesium-based alloys have limited wear resistance and tribological properties and tend to lose their functionality prematurely under sliding conditions. This can be addressed through conventional surface treatment and coatings. The surface texturing and coating can be simultaneously achieved by carrying out laser ablation under liquid medium. This improves the lubricant film, the unwanted thermal cracking, vaporization of metal and metallurgical changes. In this experimental investigation, the disintegrated melt deposition (DMD) processed Mg3Al alloy was subjected to under liquid laser ablation in 1 proponal containing graphite particles of size range 5-9μm stirred at 1900rpm by a magnetic stirrer. The under liquid laser ablation yielded nanostructured surface with grooves and islands that promote wettability and the presence of graphite ensuring an improvement of tribological properties. In this study, a 60W power Nd YAG fiber laser was used to etch the surface and achieve the under liquid ablation. The surface roughness and morphology were studied using Atomic Force Microscopy and the chemical analysis of the laser-treated surface was done using Raman spectroscopy. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Studies on surface morphology of under liquid laser ablated magnesium alloy

Titanium (Ti) and its alloy are widely used for artificial joints, dental implantations, orthopedic and bone screws because of their good biocompatibility, magnificent mechanical properties, and great <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/materials-science/corrosion-resistance">corrosion resistance</a>. As the Ti is bioinert and lacking antibacterial properties, which impact the use of such materials in the field of biomedical applications. When microorganisms attached to the surface of biomaterials it will start the implant related infection, which is a serious clinical issue. Infection frequently begins with bacterial attachment to the implant surface, after that colonization of bacteria started on the implant surface, once the colonization increases to larger extent it forms the biofilm. Once biofilm form, it becomes remarkably impervious to antibiotics and the host immunity defensive system to eliminate the biofilm from implant surface which prompting further complexities. The counteraction of biofilm development by antimicrobial surfaces is the most ideal approach to avoid both the spread of microorganisms and material decay. Antibacterial coating on implant surface is a convincing method to decrease the event of implant related infections. Among available methods micro arc oxidation (MAO) is profoundly reasonable for the development of bioactive and antibacterial coatings on titanium implant. In this paper antibacterial mechanism some of nanoparticles such as Zn, Ag, Cu, and AgO when incorporated in MAO coating is discussed. It was observed that antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles is due to combination of contact killing and release of Ag nanoparticles, as well as the arrival of Ag+ ions from the coating surface to the electrolyte solutions. Zn coating can restrain bacterial development by producing responsive oxygen species (ROS). ROS is bacteria harmful species. In Cu nanoparticles incorporated antibacterial coating, bacteria absorbed Cu ions and resulted into the formation of cavities in the cell wall of bacteria through interaction with Cu ions.<h2>Keywords</h2>Antibacterial Nano particles, Micro-arc oxidation (MAO), Titanium and Titanium alloy

Enhanced video analytics for human action detection: a deep learning approach

A Comparative Review of Generic Object Detection Algorithms

Air pollution is the most crucial environmental problem to be handled as it has adverse effects on human health, agriculture and climate. Considering its devastating effects, this study is to estimate and monitor nitrogen dioxide (NO2) pollutant concentration. A novel deep learning bidirectional gated recurrent units (GRUs) model is proposed. It is evaluated for its performance with other models like timeseries methods, sklearn machine learning regression methods, AUTOML frameworks and all advanced and hybrid deep learning techniques. The model is evaluated and optimised for the number of features, number of neurons, number of look backs and epochs. It is implemented on real-time dataset of Pune city in India. We also propose a system to monitor concentration of pollutants for buildings or houses in smart city environments which could be helpful to residents, the government and central authorities to prevent excessive pollution levels to avoid adverse effects. NO2 pollutant concentration forecasting for air quality monitoring by using an optimised deep learning bidirectional GRU model

Agriculture sector is a major contributor to global greenhouse gases (GHGs) emission and thus to anthropogenic climate change. In the proposed system, we used soil attributes, i.e., soil type, soil humidity, soil temperature, Ph value, soil moisture, and climatic attributes, i.e., temperature, humidity, wind speed, pressure, and location to analyze and predict the emission of greenhouse gases CO2 and CH4 from Pune, India. We used different regression techniques and deep learning model to analyze and predict the emission of CO2 and CH4 for different crops and season wise also. The result indicated that the decision tree regressor gives good result, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values 0.032930 and 0.026116 for emission of CO2 and CH4 as compared to other algorithm used. The deep learning model works best for 4 layers of sequential neural network. The RMSE values for number of epoch 1000 with different layers are 13.18, 7.87, and 10.36. Thus the effect of soil and climate attributes makes the difference in the greenhouse gas emission from agriculture field. © 2021, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
