Rapid industrial and economic development over the past two decades in India leads the high levels of air pollution. Carbon monoxide (CO) is one of the main pollutants, is not only harmful for human beings but also for its impact on climate. The major CO sources in India are biomass burning and vehicular emissions. Here we used Measurement of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT) CO data from 2005–2015 to examine CO sources, interannual variability, and transport pathways over India. We observed that during the winter months CO emissions over eastern part of Bihar, west Bengal and Northern Indo Gangetic (IG) plain are much higher than during the summer months. The increased vehicular emissions and industrial activity after 2010 resulted in increased CO in the same regions. CO mixing ratios at 350 hPa lowered at 68–90 μg m−3 over Arabian Sea and approximately 90 μg m−3 over Bay of Bengal during Indian summer monsoon. Deep convective activities transported maximum CO pollutants up to 200 μg m−3 over northern and eastern part of India during monsoon season.

The sustainable infrastructure is the need of the next generations. There is no definite tool to give exactstreamlined decision for the feasibility of the any project. Day by day, the depletion of environment due to constructionactivities is increasing. A solution to these crises is the construction of green structures which have minimal impact on theenvironment. In this process of shifting from conventional to green structures, the initial investment cost of the projectmay tend to rise higher, however, the entire structure gives huge returns over a period of 10-15 years due to which thisshift can prove to be beneficial. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the role of life cycle cost (LCC) analysis in thefeasibility study of construction projects and in deciding on the proposals of infrastructure projects. A study was made onthe cash flows during the construction and further the expected returns were calculated. The results obtained, highlightthat the factors like construction techniques, materials, etc. influence the cost of a green building. Therefore, after athorough study of costs incurred and the future benefits and further the analysis of life cycle cost, we can state thefeasibility of a green infrastructure project. Thus providing an alternative approach as to how to achieve long termminimum value of total costs from strategic point of view.

Life Cycle Cost Analysis- A Decision MakingTool for Implementation of Green Infrastructure Projects

Shotgun sequencing was used for the quantification of taxonomic and functional biomarkers associated with chlorinated solvent bioremediation in 20 groundwater samples (five sites), following bioaugmentation with SDC-9. The analysis determined the abundance of (1) genera associated with chlorinated solvent degradation, (2) reductive dehalogenase (RDases) genes, (3) genes associated with 1,4-dioxane removal, (4) genes associated with aerobic chlorinated solvent degradation, and (5) D. mccartyi genes associated with hydrogen and corrinoid metabolism. The taxonomic analysis revealed numerous genera previously linked to chlorinated solvent degradation, including Dehalococcoides, Desulfitobacterium, and Dehalogenimonas. The functional gene analysis indicated vcrA and tceA from D. mccartyi were the RDases with the highest relative abundance. Reads aligning with both aerobic and anaerobic biomarkers were observed across all sites. Aerobic solvent degradation genes, etnC or etnE, were detected in at least one sample from each site, as were pmoA and mmoX. The most abundant 1,4-dioxane biomarker detected was Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b mmoX. Reads aligning to thmA or Pseudonocardia were not found. The work illustrates the importance of shotgun sequencing to provide a more complete picture of the functional abilities of microbial communities. The approach is advantageous over current methods because an unlimited number of functional genes can be quantified. Copyright © 2018 American Chemical Society.

This paper review conditions of concrete bridge by taking visual inspection and non-destructive test. In India most of bridges was constructed after 1950. So, regular inspection of bridge is necessary. However, various factors such as large infrastructure development, the growth of population, has led to accelerated to detection of damage. Hence heavy traffic, the bridges are subjected to very high dynamic loading, to avoid Collapse Bridge it is mandatory to assess the conditions of existing bridge or health monitoring of bridge. Through this paper we recommending corrective measure for operation and maintenance. NDT method is to be use for verification of visual inspection in bridge management where measure damage occurred in the structure but cannot determine by visual. These techniques will allow inspector to locate damages earlier before any possible tragedies just like mahad bridge collapse in India, there exists a correlation between results of non-destructive test and condition states on visual inspections. There are many methods for non-destructive test (NDT) but every method has its own boundaries and which mean the method cannot afford an accurate and consistence result for difference cases and to detect different defect. The study also show that Ultrasonic pulse velocity test is the ideal NDT method to predict the deterioration in the structures and to determine the service life of the structures. The concept of non-destructive testing is to obtain material properties of in place specimens without the destruction of the specimen or the structure from which it is taken.

Health Monitoring of Mundhwa Bridge

Prediction of daylight illuminance has become the prime concern for building designers. This paper presents the daylight illuminance frequency distribution, correlation coefficients amongst climate variables and linear regression models developed for moderate climate zone. The emphasis of the present study is to predict daylight illuminance intensities and to investigate its relationship amongst the important climatic variables such as temperature, percentage sky clearance and percentage relative humidity at specific timings of the day, observed during different climatic conditions and seasons. The daylight illuminance data is collected with the help of digital ‘Lux’ meter across the Pune city (India). The daylight illuminance frequency distribution, correlation coefficients and the linear regression models derived for four climate specific months are presented and explained. The minimum illuminance level of 6260 Lux is observed at 8.00 am whereas the maximum is 147300 Lux at 12.00 noon in the month of July and the highest frequency of illuminance intensities falls in the range 140000-145000 Lux. A better association (positive) of illuminance intensities has been observed with percentage sky clearance variable; the correlation coefficients in the month of July are 0.678, 0.656 and 0.453. The percentage error between predicted and measured values of daylight illuminance levels derived from the developed regression models varies from 4.47% to 12.33%.

Predicting daylight illuminance in urban city using multiple regression techniques

In this research the effect of different isolated materials between the machine base and its concrete footing block is examined experimentally. The machine is subjected to vertical vibration produce by vibration exitor 4808 oscillator. Experiments will be performed by inserting isolated material between the machine base and its concrete footing. It is examined that the most vibration absorber is sandwich of E P E foam with rubber pad in between the oscillator and block. even on the ground the resonance is reduced so in this research it is investigated that for any kind of machine, combination of E P E foam and rubber pad can be used to reduce the vibration for the foundation and even to reduce damage to the nearby structures and this study will be beneficial for assessing the performance of the machine foundations.

Compound Broad Crested Weir for Measurement of Discharge – A Novel Approach

Prefabricated elements are used in construction industry as an alternative method to overcome the formwork problems and getting better quality control. The prefabricated elements made of reinforced concrete are very heavy and hard to transport, placing in position and to construct. Because of its good structural performance and low cost ferrocement is used in construction industry. Ferrocement is suitable for the construction of flooring/roof elements, precast elements, manhole covers, and construction of domes, vaults, grid surface and folded plates. It can also be used for construction of water tanks, boats, and silos. An experimental analytical and finite element analysis on flexural behavior of flat and curved ferrocement panels reinforced with varying number of wire mesh layers is presented. The Ansys analysis has been used to model the ferrocement panel for various span, mesh layer and thickness. The result obtained from FE analysis analytical and experiment work indicate that it has acceptable accuracy. Such models can thus be used as quick, simple, and inexpensive methods to calculate the optimal deflection of ferrocement channels for various spans and sizes of tensile reinforcement.
