Cross Layer Optimization in Wireless Sensor Network

This paper documents a systematic investigation on the predictability of short-term trends of crude oil prices on a daily basis. In stark contrast with longer-term predictions of crude oil prices, short-term prediction with time horizons of 1-3 days posits an important problem that is quite different from what has been studied in the literature. The problem of such short-term predicability is tackled through two aspects. The first is to examine the existence of linear or nonlinear dynamic processes in crude oil prices. This sub-problem is addressed with statistical analysis involving the Brock-Dechert-Scheinkman test for nonlinearity. The second aspect is to test the capability of artificial neural networks (ANN) for modeling the implicit nonlinearity for prediction. Four experimental models are designed and tested with historical data: (1) using only the lagged returns of filtered crude oil prices as input to predict the returns of the next days; this is used as the benchmark, (2) using only the information set of filtered crude oil futures price as input, (3) combining the inputs from the benchmark and second models, and (4) combing the inputs from the benchmark model and the intermarket information. In order to filter out the noise in the original price data, the moving averages of prices are used for all the experiments. The results provided sufficient evidence to the predictability of crude oil prices using ANN with an out-of-sample hit rate of 80%, 70%, and 61% for each of the next three days' trends. © 2009 Higher Education Press and Springer-Verlag GmbH.

Daily prediction of short-term trends of crude oil prices using neural networks exploiting multimarket dynamics

The necessity of finding right skilled people, sharing resource and limitation on cost has made distributed software development indispensable. In a distributed development project, but are working collaboratively toward the outcome. Such offshore service providers follow the traditional process models. Agile practices promote development iterations, open collaboration, and process adaptability throughout the life cycle of the project. Adapting these practices in a distributed environment can help distributed development tackle the challenges of cultural incompatibility, leadership struggle and lack of trust. This paper describes the benefits of using Agile process and Scrum the iterative incremental process in Distributed Software development, and proposes two team structures for its implementation. © 2008 IEEE.

Completely Automated Public Turing Tests to Tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHAs) are the automatic filters that are widely used these days to disallow any automated script that can perform the work of a human. CAPTCHAs are built in such a way that it is very difficult for any automated script to break them. In this paper, an approach to break text based CAPTCHAs has been proposed that first preprocesses the given CAPTCHA, segments its characters, and then recognizes the characters depending on it's features. The breaking of CAPTCHA gives strength of CAPTCHA which in turn helps to develop more robust CAPTCHA The testing results shows that the algorithm successfully breaks the CAPCHA. This algorithm will be also helpful to screen reader program. The results show that it is not a trivial task to design a CAPTCHA scheme that is both usable and robust. © 2009 IEEE.

Algorithm to break visual CAPTCHA

The World Wide Web is growing at a rate of about a million pages per day, making it tougher for search engines to extract relevant information for its users. Earlier Search Engines used simple indexing techniques to search for keywords in websites and gave more weightage to pages with higher frequency of keyword occurrences. This technique was easy to trick by using meta-tags liberally, claiming that their page used popular search terms, thereby, made meta-tags useless for search engines. Another technique widely used was to repeatedly use popular search terms in invisible text (white text on a white background) to fool engines. These fallacies called for a set of algorithms which would sort the results using an unbiased parameter. The currently employed Link Analysis Algorithms make use of the structure present in 'hyperlinks', sorted and displayed depending on a 'popularity index' decided to pages linking to it. In this work, we have analyzed the mathematics behind these 'link analysis algorithms' and their effective use in ecommerce applications where they could be used for displaying 'personalized information'. © 2008 IEEE.
