The disturbed electrical activity of the heart which leads to Atrial Fibrillation (AF) poses a threat to the health and a lot of people in the country are suffering because of this. Its timely detection and treatment can increase the longevity of patients with AF. The proposed, Smartphone based inventive method of detection of AF utilizes Photoplythosmography (PPG) signal obtained from the fingertip using the camera in a smartphone. It differentiates Normal sinus rhythm (NSR) from AF, Premature Ventricular contraction (PVC) and Premature Atrial Contractions (PAC), with the combination of statistical methods like Root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD), in combination with Shannon Entropy (ShE) and Turning point ratio (TPR) method. The reformulated TPR is used along with pulse rise and fall times to increase the accuracy of detection. The acquired results show that this method can detect NSR with sensitivity of 0.9155, and gives overall accuracy of classification of 92% © 2018 IEEE.

Discrimination of Arrhythmia Using a Smartphone

Extracting keyframes for action recognition purposes is a challenging task, as compression is to be achieved without losing the impression of the action. Insufficient or wrong keyframes can lead to confusion in the type of action. Proposed two-level key frame extraction algorithm uses an adaptive threshold technique to identify most dissimilar frames as keyframes. At the first level, global features based on intensity histogram and at second level local features computed from wavelet decomposition are used as similarity measures. A new performance parameter, Compression Ratio-Normalized Fidelity (CRNF) is introduced for evaluating the keyframe extraction algorithm. Average CRNF of 0.81 is achieved by the proposed algorithm, as compared 0.37 achieved by existing histogram-based method for action recognition dataset. CRNF value of 0.95 is achieved for Open Video project dataset, which is more than existing methods. Qualitative results further prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Two Level Key Frame Extraction for Action Recognition Using Content Based Adaptive Threshold

Meditation and yoga both have positive effects on physical, as well as mental health. Om mantra chanting, a simple and easy to practice, also comes under the aspect of meditation. The “Om” mantra is also considered as the very name of the absolute. Om meditation not only affects the various parts of the brain, such as pre-frontal cortex, vagus nerve, amygdala and others but also affects the heart rate and respiratory rate. Considering the healing effects of Om meditation, through this paper, we are trying to explore all the relevant work done in the field of Om meditation. The survey includes a large number of papers covering the research previously conducted by many researchers, their results and different techniques adopted to study the effect of Om meditation on human beings. Studies on Om meditation are categorized under four different heads: Neuroimaging studies, EEG studies, evoked potentials studies and other methods studies. Even though the existing research evidenced capability of Om meditation in curing anxiety and depression, more rigorous studies with better design, with larger sample size and with different control groups are required. Especially the need to explore untouched research areas of Loud Om meditation using EEG is suggested in the paper. Furthermore, future research directions are also suggested.

Survey on Om Meditation: Its Effects on the Human Body and Om Meditation as a Tool for Stress Management

Availability of solar energy being unassured throughout the days, it is necessary to support it by way of storage system for better utility and its wider deployment. The subject work was based on use of phase change material for energy storage and improving its efficiency. The phase change material (PCM) selected was paraffin wax and stored energy was targeted for usage in domestic and process heat applications. Analytical calculations of complete process of charging and discharging of paraffin wax was presented and compared with experimental results. Time required and Number of cycles required for charging and discharging, heat loss calculations were the outcomes of analytical model developed before experimentation. Storage system was integrated with 9.7 m2 Scheffler solar concentrator with cylindrical receiver of capacity 8 L. Receiver was placed at focus of Scheffler solar concentrator where solar rays got concentrated and water got heated up to 900C in 30 min. The two significant changes made to erstwhile work were use of Scheffler high temperature concentrator and close looping of heated water which enabled shortening of heat exchange cycle as well as heating of water in receiver of Scheffler concentrator. The work opened up further possibility of high temperature heat storage system using other than wax as PCM.

DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF SOLAR THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM FOR SCHEFFLER SOLAR CONCENTRATOR

1-bit different full adder circuits are designed using CMOS technique for low power consumption and less delay. These are implemented using Cadence Virtuoso at 180nm technology for 1.8V supply voltage. The parametric constraints such as power consumption, delay, area are compared with designed different full adder circuits and commented on which design gives best performance parameter. Power Delay Product defines the efficiency of the circuit. As low power design is the main research in VLSI, hence design the circuits which require low power, less area, less delay. The performance of complete design appertains to the performance of full adder circuit design. © 2019 IEEE.

Design of Low Power Full Adder Circuits Using CMOS Technique

Mesoscale Convective Systems are group of convective clouds extending over hundreds of kilometers in one direction. These cloud systems are responsible for most of the precipitation and severe weather conditions causing significant damage to property and loss of life. Therefore it is essential to study patterns of MCS occurrence. Global warming and increasing pollution also varies MCS patterns resulting in extreme weather conditions causing heavy rain and floods. MCS detection and tracking are important steps for studying its characteristics pattern. MCS are detected based on cloud temperature and its size thresholds. In this paper various MCS detection and tracking methods are surveyed and discussed citing their benefits, limitations and research directions. Presented work will help new researchers to understand current ongoing research related to MCS in combination with other weather phenomenon such as precipitation, storms and atmospheric circulations. Methods surveyed in this paper are based on satellite IR image dataset. © 2019 IEEE.

METHODS for MESOSCALE CONVECTIVE SYSTEMS DETECTION and TRACKING:A SURVEY

Image registration, a process of mapping two or more images having different alignment but sharing the same information, is important step in many applications. These applications require perceptible data from different images for comparison, integration or analysis. Image registration plays important role in medical imaging as most of the applications is related to clinical prognosis. Here, four image registration techniques namely geometric transformation, phase correlation, text{log} polar transform and adaptive polar transform are analyzed. Registration algorithms measure transformation to set correspondence between more than two images. The purpose of this proposal is to give in depth analysis of all the techniques and observe which gives best mapping results with the two images, and also find parameters which gives relevant information which helps to medical experts. Rotation and scaling factor are obtained by log polar transform. But because of non-uniform sampling, LPT is not proper approach for some applications. Therefore, APT is used which maintain the robustness to scale and rotation. For translation property, phase correlation help. However, limitations of all these techniques are still exit. © 2018 IEEE.

Image Registration Using Composite Algorithms

Triple concentric-tube exchanger (TCTHE) is an improved version of double concentric tube heat exchanger (DCTHE). Introducing an intermediate tube to a DCTHE provides TCTHE and enhances the heat transfer performance. Recognizing the need of experimental results, extremely scarce in the literature and essential to validate theoretical analyses, the aim of this work is to investigate thermal behavior of TCTHE. The present study includes design, development and experimental analysis of TCTHE for oil (ISO VG 22) cooling application required for industrial purposes. It comprises of water (cooling fluid) flowing through innermost tube as well as outer annulus and oil (hot fluid) flows through inner annulus. The experimental studies of the temperature distribution for three fluids along the length and heat transfer characteristics for TCTHE under insulated condition for counter current flow mode are carried out and discussed. The effect of change in oil (hot fluid) temperatures is analyzed keeping water inlet temperatures same at various operating conditions. The experiments have been conducted by varying flow rate of one of the fluids at a time and keeping other two fluid flow rates constant. The results are expressed in terms of temperature variation for all three fluids along the length. The effect of change in hot fluid inlet temperature is expressed in terms of heat transfer rate variation with respect to Reynolds number. The variation of non-dimensional parameters as temperature effectiveness and thermal conductance with respect to Reynolds number is also presented in this paper. Theoretical studies are carried out for evaluation of heat transfer rate using empirical correlations. Experimental validation is carried out for degree of cooling at different Reynolds numbers with theoretical analysis. © BEIESP.

Thermal analysis and performance evaluation of triple concentric tube heat exchanger

The analytical study has been performed to investigate the combined effects of lid movement and buoyancy force parameter on mixed convective flow in an arc-shape cavity. The dimensional analysis based on Buckingham π-Theorem is used in the present study. It results in correlations for Nusselt number in terms of non dimensionalized parameters, viz. Re, Pr, Gr, θ etc. The correlations developed are validated against the experimental data of horizontal arc- shape cavity and numerical data of inclined arc-shape cavity obtained from open literature. The correlation developed in the present study for horizontal arcshape cavity is valid for wide ranges of Re varying from 30 to 1500 and Gr from 0 to 107. In inclined arc-shape cavity it is valid for Re varying from 30 to 1500, Gr from105 to 107 and inclination angle from 150to 600.The close agreement in the comparison between predicted results by correlation developed in the present study and reported Nu correlation shows the validity of the correlation

Development and Validation of Nusselt Number Correlations for Mixed Convection in an Arc-Shape Cavity

A theoretical investigation is considered to discover possible alternatives on behalf of R134a, R12 and R22 for traditional vapor compression refrigeration system. For the same two azeotrope blends, R404A and R407C are nominated. The theoretical analysis is conceded for the refrigerating system at a continual condensation temperature of 50 ℃ and −10 ℃ to 10 ℃ evaporating temperature. Results to investigate alternative refrigerant have slightly lower performance coefficient than HFC134a, CFC22 and CFC12 respectively. Further, it is noticed the average performance coefficient of alternative refrigerants is 7.26% for R404A and 1.41% for R407C enhanced for the degree of superheating and sub cooling. The experimental setup is developed for R404A and R407C to observed different parameters such as pull down time for evaporator temperature, discharge pressure, power consumption, performance coefficient and energy efficiency ratio and compared with R134a. Smaller pull down time, lesser power consumption and isentropic work done improves the performance coefficient of the system, similar or maybe higher behavior like R134a proved that the nominated refrigerants used as an alternative to R12 and R22.
