This article provides a generalized framework for selection of time-to-failure model based on the assessment of trends in failure and repair time data. This framework is based on modifications of existing frameworks and can be applied for binary as well as multi-state systems. The proposed framework is applied for reliability analysis of a computerized numerical control turning center. For analysis purpose, the failure data are collected for 50 computerized numerical control turning center over a period of 7 years for three different working conditions, that is, when machining material is steel, aluminum and cast iron. The data collected are then processed using the proposed framework and the best-fit distribution is found for the time-to-failure data. Furthermore, the reliable life and reliabilities of the different sub-systems are estimated. From the analysis, it is found that spindle system, computerized numerical control system, electrical and electronic system, hydraulic system and cooling system are found to be critical from reliability and maintainability point of view. The analysis presented here is expected to help the users and manufacturers of computerized numerical control turning center to estimate the reliability in accurate manner.

Selection of time-to-failure model for computerized numerical control turning center based on the assessment of trends in maintenance data

Today various alternative fuels are used due to new emission norms and environmental factors. Biodiesel and its blends are one of the alternative fuel used nowadays due to its low sulphur content. Automobile metals like copper, aluminum, cast iron etc. are more resistive to corrosion in petro diesel but more corrosive in biodiesel and its blends. So study corrosive nature of biodiesel is important for longer life of these automobile metals and its components. Piston rings made of nodular cast iron are always in contact with burnt and unburnt fuel in engine during working. In present study, a corrosive characterization of nodular cast iron is investigated by giving a proper heat treatment to it and static immersion test in biodiesel blends. Scanning Electron Microscope, Energy Dispersion Spectrograph and optical microscope are used for analysis of present investigation study. Results show that change in basic microstructure of metal can increase resistance to corrosion due to change in phase of metal.

Engineering Failure Analysis

Corrosion behavior of nodular cast iron in biodiesel blends

In the present study, response surface methodology (RSM) has been used to optimize roller burnishing process for aluminum alloy 63400 grade. Single roller burnishing tool (carbide) is used to burnish round aluminum alloy. Experiments were performed with Box and Wilson Central Composite Design (CCD). The machining factors controlled during experimentation are speed, feed, force and number of tool passes. The response parameters are surface roughness and microhardness. The most significant control factors on the surface roughness and microhardness were determined by analysis of variance (ANOVA). A controllable process parameter is correlated with surface roughness and microhardness by mathematical model. A quadratic regression analysis is performed to compute the correlation coefficient between the experimental and predicted values. The optimum surface roughness and microhardness foreseen by the model is found to agree well with the results of the experiment. To find the optimum value of both the response, desirability approach was used. The input parameters with most desirability value are selected as the optimum solution. Hence, the most desirable burnished condition desirability value 0.872 is speed 37.9m/min, feed 0.5mm/rev, force 35.49N and number of tool passes four. Surface roughness obtained is 0.524μ m and microhardness is 125.02HV. This is the optimum condition for minimum surface roughness and maximum microhardness. The optimum surface finish and microhardness predicted by the model are found to agree well with the results of the experiment.

Analysis and Optimization of Surface Roughness and Microhardness for Roller Burnishing using Response Surface Methodology and Desirability Function Approach on Aluminum 63400

The most essential work in a communication system is reconstructing a clean speech from a noisy environment which is a challenging problem in speech processing. The performance of speech processing system could increase by utilizing an effective speech enhancement technique in case of mobile phone, hearing aids, etc. An innovative speech enhancement technique may help in increasing the accuracy of speech recognition methods. In this paper a new approach has been introduced which deals with the implementation of dual channel speech enhancement technique utilizes the coherence function computed from the dual input signals without prior noise statistics for noise reduction. For post-processing, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is used as a gain function which is set up by SNR values using coherence function. The proposed algorithm is applied in an environment where interfering speakers are present and gives a better result than other algorithms when the speech is corrupted by different noise types. © 2018 IEEE.

Dual Channel Coherence Based Speech Enhancement with Wavelet Denoising

Raga, one of the major pillars of Indian Classical music is arrangement of swaras in specific order and time. In western music a lot of research has been done on notes detection and scale identification. But being swar based, very less work is done in Indian classical music. We propose a raga identification system with different methods like Fourier transform, chromogram and spectrogram with database of few santoor samples and few songs in light music. Many variations in expressions and timings at the time of performance limit the accuracy of the system and we get reasonable accuracy for the raga identification. © 2019 IEEE.

Towards Raga Identification of Hindustani Classical Music

Clock gating is a prominent and an efficacious methodology adopted to decrease the dynamic power (clock power) utilization in complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) based circuits. The sole intent of gating a clock signal is to minimize its switching activity and thereby reduce significant amount of power utilization of the clock signal. Memories or storage elements are the integral part of the complex designs used in the modern day devices enabling storage of exhaustive and crucial values being processed. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of Random Access Memory (RAM) with reduced power consumption using clock gating technique on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). These memory elements can be either of synchronous or asynchronous nature. The memories discussed in the proposed work are synchronous in nature and hence reading and writing operations take place on the positive or rising edge of the clock. A gating logic is applied to lessen the superfluous transitions of the clock signal propagating along the clock network of the circuit. The target device (FPGA) for this work is Xilinx Spartan 6 and the design tool is Xilinx ISE 14.7 with the memories being modelled in Verilog HDL and simulation outputs shown in ISim. © 2019, Blue Eyes Intelligence Engineering and Sciences Publication. Implementation of low power memory on FPGA

Unlike traditional Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, application layer DoS attacks are nearly undetectable at the network layer. CIC DoS is one of the intrusion detection dataset which includes application layer DoS attacks. Therefore in this study, we handle this dataset to detect application based DoS attacks by using Random Forest, Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM), Gradient Boosting, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms. The experimental results show that the performance of the LGBM based model is better than the other algorithms.

Intrusion Detection Using Machine Learning and Deep Learning Techniques

The Piston compressor is a positive displacement compressor with crankshaft, connecting rod, crankcase, piston etc. as main components. Piston compressor are highly used in oil and gas industries as they demand high pressure air, also chemical, petrochemical and process gas plant use piston compressor for compressing final product gases. This compressor used at CNG stations to refill the automobile CNG tanks. The crankcase is the core structure of the reciprocating compressor, supports and encloses almost all internal components of piston compressor. The main function of the compressor crankcase is to provide sufficient rigidity to the compression mechanism to make it work properly. Another function of the crankcase is to act as a limiter that absorbs any shock that may occur during compressor transport. Crankcase is one of the bulky part in piston compressor and there persist the scope of weight reduction of crankcase. This paper focus on static and harmonic analysis of crankcase . For doing analysis of crankcase along with crankcase crankshaft, connecting rod, crosshead guide, cross head also weight of cylinder and piston are considered. For analysis purpose FEA solver (ANSYS) is used. static analysis is done to check stresses in crankcase, harmonic analysis is done to evaluates vibrations in terms of velocity. After transient dynamic analysis By analysing the results optimization of crankcase will be done for weight reduction.

Design and Analysis of Zero Coupled Compressor crankcase

In this paper, implementation of simulation based method for harmonic reduction in solar operated system, MATLAB Simulink Software is used to do simulation T.H.D analysis is carried out not only for output load voltage but also for Active and Reactive Power. This proposed work presents the design and implementation of novel multilevel inverter technique for the solar panel. For Conversion of Voltage from DC to AC two level cascade inverters are mostly used. This two level inverter can only able to produce two different outputs or level of voltages. But THD of 2-level inverter is not so good i.e. very high, because an output voltage waveform is in the form of two levels only, to limit and reduce THD value here new multilevel inverter is presented with less number of switches. THD analysis of conventional two level and new multilevel inverter is also presented here. Pulse width modulation technique is used and explained in details. The desired AC voltage is synthesizing by using various levels of DC voltages source.

Implementation of Multilevel Inverter for Harmonic Reduction in Solar PV Application

In this research paper, we have done the implementation and analysis of true color image compression and decompression technique. The implemented paper divides the color image into RGB component then after applying three-level Discrete Wavelet Transform, RGB components are split into nine higher frequency sub-bands and one lower order sub-band. The lower frequency sub-band is compressed into T-Matrix using One Dimension Discrete Cosine Transform. At the same time, higher frequency sub-bands are compressed using scalar quantize and eliminate zero and store data algorithm are applied to remove zeros in sub-band matrixes. Last, the encoded mode adopted arithmetic encoding. This algorithm has use two level of quantization this show significance improve in performance of compression algorithm. The decompression process is reverse process of encoder. The decompression algorithm decoded high-frequency subbands using return zero matrix algorithm and recover low-frequency sub-bands and other sub-bands using applying inverse process. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.
