Air conditioning/air cooling systems are necessities of the modern urban world. These applications require huge power and have an adverse environmental impact because of the ozone-depleting coolants used. Saving electrical energy for compressors is made possible by redesigning the prime movers. Interdisciplinary approaches such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, thermal science, and solar energy produce electrical energy, which drastically saves more energy than the conventional system. This system converts solar radiations to heated steam to heat exchange to convert liquid coolant to vapor to produce a cooling effect using low energy. The experiment is conducted in a 1Ton conventional vapor compression system using a low-power consumption system built with an ‘ejector-based cooling system’ and ‘Scheffler concentrator-based heating system.’ The results reveal that 80% of energy is saved using unconventional interdisciplinary approaches in the subsystem design. © 2021 S Suyambazhahan, Tatek Temesgen, Anita A. Energy Saving in an Air-Conditioning System Using Interdisciplinary Energy Conversion Approach

Steel fiber reinforce-concrete (SFRC) is gaining popularity in the construction industry due to its good post-cracking behavior and numerous benefits for strength and sustainability. SFRC is used for various applications, such as tunnel lining segments, cast-in-lining, and sprayed concrete. Accurately determining and utilizing characteristic values is essential for achieving the best material qualities for structural designs employing fiber reinforced concrete. This article proposes a technique for determining the residual strengths of SFRC for 4D and 5D steel fibers with different concrete grades and fiber fractions. The technique defines characteristic values for FRC and provides a detailed methodology to aid FRC contractors and designers. The experimental residual strengths were taken from experimentally notched beams that underwent three-point bending tests, revealing softening and hardening behaviors in the load-cracking ratio curve of the crack. The concrete matrix consisted of hook-end steel fiber. Concrete, steel, and aluminium together account for 23% of all worldwide emissions. Steel fibers for concrete reinforcement are inherently more sustainable than traditional solutions like rebar and meshes, leading to significant CO2 savings up to 35%. Through advanced steel fiber design optimization, thinner but equally durable concrete slabs can be designed with significantly less concrete, steel, and water than conventional reinforcement solutions. By adding high performance 4D and 5D steel fibers, further design optimization can be achieved. Using steel fibers as a reinforcement solution can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of traditionally reinforced concrete, with steel accounting for nearly 19% of emissions share in 1 cubic metre of concrete. Additionally, using steel fibers reduces the amount of concrete required, further dampening the carbon footprint. Overall, this article provides valuable insights into the benefits and characteristics of SFRC and proposes a technique for determining its residual strengths. This information can aid FRC contractors and designers in achieving the best material qualities for their structural designs while also contributing to a more sustainable construction industry. © 2023, Central Board of Irrigation and Power. Determining the Characteristics of Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Using 4D and 5D Fiber: A Study on Different Concrete Grades and Fiber Concentrations

The focus of this Paper is on utilizing cutting-edge technologies and techniques to gather comprehensive data, even in challenging environments. The goal is to achieve accurate and reliable measurements in any ground condition, whether it is soft soil, hard rock, or anywhere in between. A good instrumentation program has the potential to change the way we approach subsurface engineering, making it possible to tackle even the most complex geotechnical challenges with confidence. To start with, the Paper dwells upon the basic purpose of instrumentation and the essential attributes of a good instrumentation system. It explains functionalities of the diverse type of instruments deployed in tunnelling. The designers of the instrumentation program may find the discussion quite useful. Elements of a foolproof instrumentation program have been discussed in detail. The Paper highlights the most crucial but commonly ignored aspect of data analysis and interpretation. What is the use of instrumentation if their data is not utilized? The instrumentation program must be able to analyze the data through an on-line Software and present the results in a form that can enable easy interpretation of the results. Instead of long data tables, the instrumentation results must be presented in graphical form. Today’s IT technology has made it possible, as brought out in this Paper. With this perspective, the way instrumentation is looked upon today needs to be changed. Clearly, there is a need to accord instrumentation the attention that it deserves. Finally, typical instrumentation systems have been presented for varying rock conditions. However, it must also be appreciated that in tunnelling we are dealing with naturally occurring unpredictable ground conditions. Howsoever hard one may try; it will not be possible to standardize instrument schemes for different rock conditions. Instrumentation design has to be an evolving process and will need to be updated depending upon the data received from the instruments as the actual results might reveal unpredicted rock behavior. © 2023, Central Board of Irrigation and Power. Optimized Instrumentation Programs for Tunnels in Different Ground Conditions

To research the issues and challenges in construction of hydro tunnel in extreme geological condition in India an attempt has been made to discuss various geotechnical problems encountered during tunnelling in Vishnugad-Pipalkoti HE Project (444MW) which is under construction on Alaknanda River in Distt Chamoli, in the state of Uttarakhand. This Project will generate 444 MW Power by installing four turbines of 111 MW each. The central feature of this project is its 13.5Km long head –race-tunnel with an 8.8m finished diameter. Out of its 13.5 km length,12.3km is to be bored by using a 9.86-meter-diameter double-shield TBM and the remaining 1.2km to be bored with the help of DBM. The present study is to highlight the issues and challenges faced during transportation and installation of the TBM and the universal geological surprises faced by the working team after starting the boring and the remedial measures adopted, therefore. The report also covers the design and analysis of a large-scale adit that was dug in incredibly bad rock conditions, as well as the creative approaches used to build it. © 2023, Central Board of Irrigation and Power. Issues and Challenges in Construction of Hydro Tunnel in Extreme Geological Conditions in India – An Empirical Study

The automobile sector has shown a year-on-year growth in terms of vehicles being disposed and revenue being generated. This drives the motive to conduct intensive research in this area to in order to suffice to change in dynamic needs of industries. Material selection and usage in development of automotive parts can be considered as a significant field of opportunity in terms of introducing heterogeneous combinations to achieve enhanced performance in vehicles. Among this, composites have tend to attract a lot of attention, in terms of manufacturing feasibility and the freedom of developing desired mixture of properties. Moreover with the advancements in additive manufacturing and hybrid manufacturing techniques, composites can be processed with more ease to form finished products with upgraded characteristics. Most of the literature in this area has focused on identifying the mechanical superiority of composites over metals (aluminum, steel). However, a comparatively less amount of work has been done on investigating the thermal behavior of composites. Analytical Study of Thermal Stresses Generated in a Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Wheel Hub

Early prediction of Alzheimer's disease and related Dementia has been a great challenge. Recently, preliminary research has shown that neurological symptoms in Covid-19 patients may accelerate the onset of Alzheimer's disease. With such a further rise in Alzheimer's and related Dementia cases, having an early prediction system becomes vital. Speech can provide a non-invasive diagnostic marker for such neurodegenerative diseases. This work mainly focuses on studying significant temporal speech features extracted directly from the recordings of the Dementia bank dataset and applying Machine Learning algorithms to classify the Alzheimer's disease related Dementia Group and the healthy control group. The result shows that Support Vector Machine outperformed other machine learning algorithms with an accuracy of 87%. Compared to prior research, which used manual transcriptions provided with the dataset, this study used audio recordings from the Dementia bank dataset and an advanced Automatic Speech Recognizer to extract speech features from the audio recordings. Furthermore, this method can be applied to the spoken responses of subjects during a neuropsychological assessment. © 2023, Ismail Saritas. All rights reserved.

Automated Prognosis of Alzheimer’s Disease using Machine Learning Classifiers on Spontaneous Speech features

Fins are set on the surface of the cylinder to improve the quantity of heat exchange by convection. Addition of fins can increase the heat transfer from the surface by several folds. IC engine is used to generate the mechanical power from chemical energy contain in a fuel which released to combustion of fuel inside the engine. If excessive heat is not removed, engine components may fail due to excessive temperature. Only approximately 30% of energy released is converted into useful work, the remaining 70% must be removed from the engine to prevent engine parts from melting. To determine the heat transfer rate associated with the fin, we must first obtain the temperature distribution along the fin. The variety of fins are available to enhance heat transfer rate including parabolic concave/convex, triangular, rectangular, trapezoidal, circular and so on. But some of the profiles are difficult to manufacture. In this paper, performance of convex parabolic fin was investigated by Ansys software. In the analysis part total five cases of parabolic fin were considered by varying fin base width, tip width, pitch length, number of fins and fin diameter.
