Portable electronic devices suffer fromimpact-induced failure in usage. These products mustpass drop or impact tests before shipment, so that thereare no grievances at the customer end due to poor life ofthe product. Hence, drop or impact performance is oneof the important concerns in product design. Because ofthe small size of these kind of electronics products, it isvery expensive, time-consuming, and difficult toconduct drop tests to detect the failure mechanism andidentify their drop behaviors. A large number ofsensors are required in the extremely small space of theelectronic device, so as to obtain sufficient data forfailure analysis. To overcome this hurdle, a combinationof only a few sensors, a rudimentary test rig, and finiteelement analysis with the help of software can be usedto study device behavior during impact. Recent workhas shown that due to the multiple impacts that resultduring an accidental drop of a portable electronicproduct, the propensity for damage to the product canbe significantly higher than in a single impact. Whenviewed in light of these findings, conventional methodsfor drop-testing of portable products, either constrainedor free, suffer from drawbacks. In the former, theobject being tested is not allowed to move naturallyduring impact, and in the latter, it is difficult to controlthe orientation of the object at impact and toinstrument it. In this project, a new method of drop-testing has been designed, that combines the advantagesof the constrained and free methods, without theirdrawbacks. It is proposed that the object being tested besuspended onto a guided drop-table in the precisedesired impact orientation. The test device, drop testand correlation of analysis to test data are illustrated inthe report.

Design and Development of drop Test Rig and Test Analysis of Handheld Electronic Devices

Neural network computational techniques are a new alternative to conventional numerical modeling. This paper presents modeling, the correlation between burnishing process parameters of Aluminum 63400 using an artificial neural network. Experimental samples were prepared using single roller burnishing tools (carbide). Experiments were performed with Box and Wilson central composite design. Speed, feed, force and number of tool passes, the controlled parameters during experiments are the input to the neural network model. The response parameter surface roughness is the output parameters. A mathematical model using response surface method is obtained. A neural network model is developed using three-layer feed-forward back-propagation. The neural network model is trained using measured values of surface roughness. The different algorithms are used to train the model. Best performance is achieved with correlation coefficient 0.9. This study concludes that an artificial neural network is the best alternative to fit the nonlinear data.

Modeling and Correlations Between Parameters of Roller Burnishing Process on Surface Roughness for Aluminum 63400 Using Response Surface Methodology and Artificial Neural Network

Design and development of Compressed air engine for hybrid vehicle

In this paper we propose an approach of deciding a quality parameter for evaluation of relative quality of the sound produced by the synthesizer with reference to the sound of the original Indian classical instrument. Tonal quality of a musical note is a subjective aspect. The work presented in the paper aims at providing quantification that will assess the quality of the musical note of the instrument produced on synthesizer and the equivalent note produced on the real instrument. In this paper we nomenclate this quality parameter as HPHPQM (Hybrid Pre-ranked Heuristically Preferential Quality Metric). The paper also presents the Interrater statistics carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed parameter. Sitar and flute are the instruments considered for the experimentation. In a nutshell to the best of authors' knowledge no work has been reported towards incorporating the quality parameter to judge the qualitative closeness of instrument sound on synthesizer and real instrument sound. This paper proposes solution for the same.

This paper explores the application of the cooling techniques and Moldex3D software for simulation of cooling system in the injection molding process. The effect of cooling systems as the most important factors in optimization of plastic injection molding. Optimization of cooling system plays a significant role in the quality, efficiency, and the cost effective manufacturing. The importance of shape, type, and the location of cooling channels using the Moldex3D software and good results are achieved. Using numerical simulation tools or combination of analytical and numerical simulation approach is one of the intelligent choices applied to modern mold cooling design. Optimization of cooling system using simulation software in injection molding

Muffler is accountable for noise decrements of an engine and due to this it creates backpressure. Primary objective of this work is determination of exhaust back pressure of muffler using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and by using experimental validation. Main focus of this work is to reduce the backpressure created in the muffler. Exhaust back pressure is one of the important factor which is generally scrutinized by the automotive manufactures to make sure that their engine gives a better performance.

Experimental &amp; Numerical Evaluation of Double expansion chamber Reactive Muffler

This paper discuss the progressive collapse analysis of RC frame building by removing different column one at a time as per the GSA guidelines. Building consists of 3 X 3 bays of 5 m in both direction and designed by Indian code as a special moment resistant frame. Structural model of building has been created in ETABS and loads are applied as per GSA guidelines, for evaluation of progressive collapse linear static method of analysis and nonlinear static method of analysis have been used. As per GSA guidelines, removal of three columns one at a time is studied, for Corner column, Exterior column and interior column at ground floor. For all three cases both linear and nonlinear analysis have done and DCR ratios are evaluated. Member having DCR ratio greater than 2 fails for corresponding column removal case. It is observed that shear in beam is not critical in any case, Columns are also not critical in Progressive collapse. But by Linear static analysis and nonlinear static it is observed that beams are going to fail in flexure.

Progressive Collapse Of RCC Structure Due To Earthquake And Wind Load.

The idea of making everything readily available and universally has led to a revolution in the field of networks. In spite of the tremendous growth of technologies in the field of networks and information, we still lack in preventing our resources from cyber-attacks. This may not concern small organizations but it is a serious issue as far as industries, companies or national securities are concerned. Since many different mechanisms were opted by organizations in the form of intrusion detection and prevention systems to protect themselves from these kinds of attacks, there are many security breaches which go undetected. A host-based intrusion detection system (HIDS) is a system that monitors a computer system on which it is installed to detect an intrusion and/or misuse, and responds by logging the activity and notifying the designated authority. In this paper, we develop a HIDS using logs generated by services running on the systems. We will discuss about the client-server architecture used in HIDS.

Log Based Intrusion Detection System

Disease mobility is curse of human life, both physically and mentally. Particularly, old age faces difficulty in walking, climbing stairs, etc. As per UN world population prospects, the elder population in worldwide will reach up to 2.1 billion in 2050 (around 20%), which is more than double the population in 2017. It is observed that the majority of infrastructures in rural, urban and semi urban areas of developing nations are not equipped with elevators. Individuals have no alternative than utilizing stairs. The fundamental issue comes with an age where an incompetent body enforces to avoid climbing of any type. Literature supports different assisting tools for stair climbing. The use of external power source for driving such tools is a common practice. In this paper, the self driven mechanism is proposed to facilitate climbing. The system stores the energy while regular walking and the same can be utilized whenever required on the need basis. The natural walking style of the individual and its feel is preserved while designing the mechanism. The design further shows scope for similar applications. The detailing of design and the analytical formulations are presented to support the argument.

Spring Supportive Mechanism to Assist Stair Climbing

Purpose: To compete and survive in the global market the stakeholders, such as regulatory authorities, customers, competitors, non-governmental organisations and employees, are asking for increasingly sustainable design, processes and products. According to the World Bank 2012 and United Nations Environment Programme 2012 environmental issues such as depletion of ozone layer, climatic changes, pollution, loss of biodiversity, degradation and depletion of air, water, minerals and land has been a biggest problem in front of India for having sustainable products. After the economic liberalization policies in 1991 the growth rate has been increased by 42.7%. As per National Manufacturing Policy (NMP) Government of India is planning to increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the manufacturing sector from the current level of 16% to 25% by 2025. From the literature survey it is clear that to address environmental and social sustainability, right from raw material to the finished product till end customer, Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) is only the answer to make whole supply chain more environmental sustainable thus by integrating the traditional supply chain practices with environmental friendly practices. Design/methodology/approach: Identification of main and subindicators required for implementation of GSCM, through literature review and experts’ opinions from industry person and academicians. Findings: This paper identifies the GSCM implementation strategies into main sixteen indicators. Main indicators are Non-Members of Supply Chain, Top Management Perspective, Eco Product Design, Eco Procurement, Eco Manufacturing, Internal Environmental Management, Green Packaging, Eco Marketing and Communication, Eco Logistics Design, Environmental Performance, Operational Performance, Economic Performance, Performance of Human and Technological Resources, Performance of Vendor Management, Owners’ Satisfaction and Customer Co-Operation. These indicators will play an important role in greening the supply chain.
