The cost-efficient laboratory enhances the learning of students by exploring the concepts practically using Computer-aided tools and interfacing the developed model to hardware for practically visualizing the propagation of the signal. This paper presents the general framework and study of related work done in this field by using different software tools like MATLAB/Simulink, Lab VIEW, Proteus, Pspice etc. and hardware methodologies like DSP processor, FPGA board, DSK board, Arduino kit etc. which help the student to learn and apply the concepts more effectively in the real world. © 2017 IEEE.

A review on cost-efficient virtual laboratory: A teaching aid

Natural Convection heat transfer from horizontal rectangular fin array with various knurling patterns is studied experimentally to find the effect of varying surface roughness on the heat transfer rate. The experimental parametric study is performed to investigate the effect of knurl produced surface roughness of fin on heat transfer rate. The parameters like knurling height from base, knurling depth and fin spacing might affect the flow characteristics and hence it is investigated to find the effect on heat transfer coefficient. The knurling is usually accomplished using one or more very hard rollers that contain the reverse of the pattern to be imposed. The result of this study shows that there are some important geometric factors related to knurling affecting the design of fin arrays and also heat transfer augmentation of natural convection heat transfer is observed. Natural convection heat transfer with horizontal rectangular fin array using straight knurling patterns on fins - An experimental study

The fetal electrocardiogram (f-ECG) beats analysis as well as the heart rate interpretation using the raw ECG signals captured by machine helps in providing the state of the fetus in pregnancy. For timely detection of the fetal arrhythmias, monitoring fetal ECGs constantly is important. In this paper, we are presenting the framework for detection of fetal from maternal ECG based on sparse binary matrix using Compressive Sensing. Additionally, we are presenting the preprocessing algorithm on raw fetus ECG data to remove the noises like impulsive artifacts along with notch filtering for baseline removal. The proposed method is on the basis of sparse representation of the components that are acquired using Independent Component Analysis (ICA) method, which is designed for direct application in the compressed domain. Detection of fetal ECG is performed on the basis of activated atoms in a specially designed Gaussian dictionary. The verification of the proposed framework has been carried out on ten samples of Challenge dataset A by determining QRS detection parameters such as sensitivity, S= 90.62% and positive predictivity, given by P+= 99.15%. © 2018 IEEE.

Fetal ECG Separation from Abdominal ECG Recordings Using Compressive Sensing Approach

The iris has been described as the ideal part of the human body compared to other biometrics for biometric identification technique which provides individual authentication based on unique features possessed by individual even though their DNA is similar. This paper provides general framework for iris recognition with different methods available for segmentation, normalization, feature extraction, and for classification. Iris recognition improves the overall performance and accuracy of biometric identification. This paper provides a brief introduction about classification techniques such as support vector machines and artificial neural networks, and a review on different wavelet based feature extraction techniques used for iris recognition. © 2017 IEEE.

An empirical study on iris texture characterization using geometrical wavelet transform

In this paper, the face image is divided into two separated parts: aging effect feature part and identity related feature part. The identity dictionary and the age dictionary are introduced to encode the two feature parts into two separated feature spaces. To make sure the learned dictionaries are discriminative for different classes, the reconstruction error and label matrices constraints are added in the training. Face features can be encoded into identity and age space with the learned identity and age dictionaries. The identity space can be used for further classification. Extensive experiments are conducted on the MORPH and FGNET dataset, illustrating a great improvement over the state-of-the-arts.

Now days, to live in a very much digitalized smart world, everyone is in need of different electronic gadgets, which are so smart to give any required information immediately. Internet of Things (IoT) also has a boom in the industry that helps to provide the smartness for different things. To provide the smartness for the different gadgets, the Android is supportive platform available which give the challenge for the App Developers to develop the Android based Apps for IoT. With respective of this, in this paper, a review study is done for understanding the IoT, its tools and technologies required to develop the Android based app for IoT.

Survey on Internet of Things (IoT) : Tools and Technologies

Image retrieval systems now a day's have more focus on searching desired image as a query. Search results are based on different contents of query image. Content based approach is more desirable as it neglects manual annotations of images. Systems aim at search and compare images based on similarity in color contents of query image. Comparison is performed by defining distance similarity measures between color histogram properties. Use of color features as important feature makes results more complete as search results and color contents are not affected by image resize and rotation operations. To extract color features of image we consider on color space, color reduction, color feature extraction process. Our image retrieval application aims at color feature comparison efficiency and accuracy. We aim at reduction in dimensions of local and global color feature which is possible through selection of proper quantization level. To define similarity in feature vector we applied Euclidean distance. Our experimental work shows that local hybrid color histogram produced more accurate image retrieval results than global color moments, color coherence vector and traditional color histogram.

Local and Global Color Histogram Feature for Color Content-Based Image Retrieval System

Amongst many imaging modalities available now a days, Ultrasound is the most widely used because of the reasons like radiation free, real time, non-invasive and non-ionizing. During patient's care, medical images, videos other physiological signals, become an integral part of diagnostic and treatment phases. Ultrasound is more advantageous and cheaper than other modalities like MRI, CT, PET. Speckle noise present in US hampers the quality of images which in turn considerably increases the difficulty in medical visual inspection. The diagnostic accuracy will be more if image is less noisy, this necessitates the use of efficient despeckling filter which will take care of edge detection, loss of information and improve visual evaluation. MSE assess the image quality, if the value is high then image quality is poor. PSNR is another quality metrics, high value indicates the better denoising algorithm. In the present work seven different filters are listed and experimental work is carried out on LEE and Hybrid Median filter (HMF). The experimental result of PSNR and MSE values are considered for evaluation purpose. © 2017 IEEE.

Efficient Speckle Reduction Techniques in Ultrasound Video Quality Enhancement-A Comparative Evaluation

Milk distribution and safety is of high concern as it involves the health of 90% of our society. Our project, milk distribution monitoring system targets the cold chain maintenance and milk spoilage avoidance. The system is based on Internet of Things and data mining. Traditionally milk is supplied in cans with minimum monitoring which may result in milk getting spoiled before its use specially during transportation at any point of time which causes vendors to know about milk spoilage only after the milk has been spoiled completely. To overcome these problems first data mining technique is employed to discover the routing plans so as to generate case-based routing plans for the drivers. Then the existing sensor based system will measure the pH value of milk and determine its quality. The system will direct to nearest milk booth with the highest proximity by using routing technique where data center serves as a cloud server to calculate the costs of a finding the nearest milk booth request, and these costs will be frequently updated by considering the location of van and the total number of milk booth in each areas whose data is accessible any time in the network. This routing algorithm will be used to offer a solution of finding an available milk booth if the PH value deviates from 6.7. This is implemented by a system prototype with wireless access in an open-source physical computing platform based on Ardiuno and using a smart phone that provides the communication and user interface for both the control system and the vehicles to verify the feasibility of the system. It will also give an alert SMS to vehicle driver so that collection of milk can be faster without more spoilage. This way it will maintain good quality and cost effective distribution of milk. © 2017 IEEE.

An Internet of Things (IOT) based monitoring system for efficient milk distribution

The recent automotive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology is consist of 360 degree view camera system around a vehicle. The 360 degree view camera system around a vehicle supports the driver during drive the vehicle. The system is assembling around the vehicle by using four fish eye cameras attached to the vehicle, each camera capturing a four different direction around vehicle. We deploped a real time three dimensional vision system around vehicle that can secure safe driving. The System consist of camera calibration method specially for produce inverse prospective mapping of captured images onto 3D bowl model. The four images from camera stitched on bowl geometry and rendered as third person point of view. This system is mainly remove blind spot problem of vehicle. The system runs on DSP C66x processor to produce three dimensional vision system around vehicle. © 2017 IEEE.
