Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks are a one form of wireless networks in which Road Side Units (RSU) and vehicles are the communicating nodes, providing each other with information such as traffic information and safety warning. They are self-distributed and organized. They can be useful in avoiding accidents and traffic congestion. Providing safety and comfort applications such as information about road block, fuel station, and traffic are main purposes of the VANET. VANETs are highly dynamic and energy constraint in nature, Due to this nature of VANET it is more challenging to achieve the security. Security and energy consumption are important issues in VANET. Previously data confidentiality can be achieved by AES algorithm in VANETs. But AES requires more energy for the process of encryption and decryption. This paper introduces A Light-Weight Energy Efficient Encryption Scheme for achieving security in energy efficient way. Transmission of data is not the only source of energy consumption there are many much like encryption and decryption. Light-Weight Energy Efficient Encryption scheme saves the energy in the process of encryption/decryption of data.

Ant Colony Optimization and Its Applications to Mechanical Engineering: A Review

The increasing use of wireless networks and the constant miniaturization of electrical devices have empowered the development of Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs). WBAN is designed to operate autonomously by establishing a wireless communication link. Various medical sensors and appliances are attached or implanted inside and outside of a human body. The media access control (MAC) layer plays an important role in deciding the energy efficiency. We do the research on the adaptive energy efficient Medium Access Control protocol used in WBAN, so to increase the network lifetime. The proposed protocols show increase in common node remaining energy, cluster node remaining energy, BAN co-or node remaining energy and decreasing in delay. This is achieved because of dynamic duty cycle and priorities based message passing schemes.

Network Lifetime Enhancement for Wireless Body Area Networks

Background: Congestion in a computer network degrades network performance by decreasing throughput and increasing packet loss and delay. Active queue management algorithm is router based mechanism for early detection of congestion in the computer network. The basic idea of AQM is to sense and detect congestion in advance and to inform the sender to reduce its sending rate there by reducing the number of packets sent in the network and control the congestion. BLUE is an AQM algorithm which uses single marking probability pm to manage the congestion in the network. The major drawback of BLUE AQM is that it relies on queue length to detect and manage the congestion and since the queue length may give very little information to detect the severity of congestion that is to detect the number of competing connections sharing the link. Objective: In order to over this shortcomings we have proposed new algorithm named NewBLUE which has high link utilization, monitors the queue length, requires less buffer space, early congestion detection, minimizes the queuing delay, decreases the packet loss, achieves fairness, avoids global synchronization, tracks the number of user and stabilizes performance measure with target independently of the number of user and removes bias against the busty traffic. Results: After simulating the NewBLUE algorithm with the existing BLUE algorithm, NewBLUE algorithm gave better throughput and less packet loss and delay compared to the BLUE algorithm. Conclusion: Thus NewBLUE which is modified version of BLUE which uses idle link, packet loss to detect congestion decouples the congestion measures with performance measures and stabilizes the performance measure against the target independently of number of user had high throughput less packet loss and less delay compared to BLUE algorithm [3] [6] [29] [30]. Modified Blue Active Queue Management Algorithm

Wireless Communication and Wireless Networking is the popular research in this era. The combination of this is useful method for one step ahead to increase the life of human being. The motto of the research is to implement the protocol on Data-Link Layer, which is the WBAN stack protocol layer architecture, use to increase the life time of battery by energy saving. The novelty in the proposed method is to reduce energy consumption using the concepts of contention window which is adaptive to the different traffic conditions. The experimental result shows increase in Total Remaining Energy, Common Node Energy, Cluster Head Energy and BAN Coordinator Node Energy of Wireless Body Area Network. The proposed protocol is simulated in NS2 environment.

Clustering Techniques and the Similarity Measures used in Clustering : A Survey

Scalable video coding extension has been added to H.264AVC to support compression and encoding of multiple resolution video sequences, having different frame rates and fidelities in a single bit stream. The motion vectors and the residual data of the enhancement layers are derived from up-sampling the co-located macroblock (MB) of the base layer. The peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) across the enhancement layers is degraded as up-sampling introduces distortion of high-frequency components. In this paper, a spatial-resolution-ratio-based MB mode decision scheme is proposed for spatially enhanced layers. The scheme uses the motion estimated at the base layer, to encode the respective MBs in the enhancement layers. The spatial–temporal search schemes at the enhancement layers are used to derive motion vectors and residues that are encoded using a quantization parameter obtained using independent rate control (IRC) scheme. The IRC from the prior art is modified to achieve better rate control per layer by recursive updates for mean absolute difference values of each basic unit. Proposed modified inter-layer dependency shows improvement in the PSNR for enhancement layers while the updated IRC enforces better IRC for all the layers.

Efficient Rate Control Scheme using Modified Inter- Layer Dependency for Spatial Scalability

Silicon Photo-Multipliers (SiPMs) are increasingly becoming popular for discrete photon counting applications due to the wealth of advantages they offer over conventional photo-detectors such as photo-multiplier tubes and hybrid photo-diodes. SiPMs are used in variety of applications ranging from high energy physics and nuclear physics experiments to medical diagnostics. The gain of a SiPM is directly proportional to the difference between applied and breakdown voltage of the device. However, the breakdown voltage depends critically on the ambient temperature and has a large temperature co-efficient in the range of 40-60 mV/°C resulting in a typical gain variation of 3%-5%/°C [Dinu et al., in IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium, Medical Imaging Conference and 17th Room Temperature Semiconductor Detector Workshop (IEEE, 2010), p. 215]. We plan to use the SiPM as a replacement for PMT in the cosmic ray experiment (GRAPES-3) at Ooty [Gupta et al., Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res., Sect. A 540, 311 (2005)]. There the SiPMs will be operated in an outdoor environment subjected to temperature variation of about 15 °C over a day. A gain variation of more than 50% was observed for such large variations in the temperature. To stabilize the gain of the SiPM under such operating conditions, a low-cost, multi-channel programmable power supply (0-90 V) was designed that simultaneously provides the bias voltage to 16 SiPMs. The programmable power supply (PPS) was designed to automatically adjust the operating voltage for each channel with a built-in closed loop temperature feedback mechanism. The PPS provides bias voltage with a precision of 6 mV and measures the load current with a precision of 1 nA. Using this PPS, a gain stability of 0.5% for SiPM (Hamamatsu, S10931-050P) has been demonstrated over a wide temperature range of 15 °C. The design methodology of the PPS system, its validation, and the results of the tests carried out on the SiPM is presented in this article. The proposed design also has the capability of gain stabilization of devices with non-linear thermal response.

Multi-channel programmable power supply with temperature compensation for silicon sensors

The main focus is on using radio frequencyidentification technology for collecting toll taxes. The proposedRFID system uses active tags (registered cards) that aremounted on the windshields of vehicles, through whichinformation embedded on the tags are read by RFID readers.Data information (toll debts, balance etc) are also easilyexchanged between the motorists and toll authorities, therebyenabling a more efficient toll collection by reducing traffic andeliminating possible human errors. When vehicle is stolen theowner complains with its registered card number and thevehicle is blacklisted in the database to be able to identify by thee-toll system.

Electronic Toll Tax Collection and Security System

The present study aims at improving the shear and flexural strength of the concrete bythe addition of steel fibres. Also the study investigates the effect of prestressing on the shear andflexural strength of concrete. In this research work, 20% of fly ash (class-C) is added as a replacementof binder to its weight and 1.5% steel fibres by weight of concrete. Based on the experimentalresults, it can be seen that the load carrying capacity of steel fibre increased by 30–50% than theplain beam for non-prestressed. And load carrying capacity is increased approximately by 30–90% than the plain prestressed concrete beam. The use of steel fibres in a concrete mix was foundto increase the crack resistance of the beams. Crack width was not more than 6 mm and 3 mm incase of the non-prestressed and prestressed steel fibre reinforced concrete beams respectively.Hence, based on experimental results it can be concluded that prestressed steel fibre reinforced concretebeams help to improve the shear strength, flexural strength, and crack resistance
