Special Issue-3, (April 2014) Abstract A centrifugal pump is a rotodynamic pump that uses a rotating impeller to increase the pressure of a fluid. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near to the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber (casing), from where it exits into the downstream piping. Computational fluid dynamics deals with fluid mechanics that uses numerical methods and algorithms to solve and analyze problems that involve fluid flows. Computers are used to perform the calculations required to simulate the interaction of liquids and gases with surfaces defined by boundary conditions. However, since experiments are limited by the facilities and the costs, computational fluid dynamics is also used to complement the experiments. The lead times and costs of new designs may then be substantial reduced. To use the computational fluid dynamics the various tools are available among them few are commercial and few are open source. For commercial tools one has to pay a lot while for open source tool it is free ware. In this project work the analysis of centrifugal pump in commercial tool i.e. ANSYS and in open source i.e. Open FOAM is carried out. Numerical solutions of the rotor-stator interaction of Centrifugal Pump using ANSYS CFX and OpenFOAM-1.5-dev were investigated.

Numerical Flow Simulation of Centrifugal Pump in ANSYS and OpenFOAM

Heat exchangers are devices used to transfer heat between two or more fluid streams at different temperatures. A very serious problem in the mechanical design of heat exchangers is flow induced vibration of the tubes. There are several possible consequences of tube vibration, all of them bad. The tubes may vibrate against the baffles, which can eventually cut holes in the tubes. In extreme cases, the tubes can strike adjacent tubes, literally knocking holes in each other. The repeated stressing of the tube near a rigid support such as a tube sheet can result in fatigue cracking of a tube, loosening of the tube joint and accelerated corrosion. The flow induced vibrational analysis is considered as integral part of mechanical and thermal design of shell and tube heat exchangers. TEMA has developed standards in areas of flow induced vibrational analysis which have achieved worldwide acceptance. The paper explains depth vibrational analysis of a real world project in accordance to TEMA regulations.

As the technology is developing with a huge rate, the functionality of smartphone is also getting higher. But the smartphones have some resource constraints like processing power, battery capacity, limited bandwidth for connecting to the Internet, etc. Therefore, to improve the performance of smartphone in terms of processing power, battery and memory, the technology namely, augmented execution is the best solution in the mobile cloud computing (MCC) scenario. Mobile cloud computing works as the combination of mobile computing and cloud computing. Augmented execution alleviates the problem of resource scarcity of smartphone. To get the benefits from the resource-abundant clouds, massive computation intensive tasks are partitioned and migrated to the cloud side for the execution. After executing the task at the cloud side, the results are sent back to the smartphone. This method is called as the computation offloading. The given survey paper focuses on the partitioning techniques in mobile cloud computing. © 2014 IEEE.

The term 'green IT' is defined as "Optimal use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for managing the environment sustainability of enterprise operations throughout their life cycles". Its objective is to create a positive impact on environment through net lowered emissions. The heart of green information technology (IT) is the concept of 'Environmental Sustainability', its initiatives are multifaceted to support enterprises 'business as usual model', in low-carbon economy. Many green IT initiatives have provided short-term financial benefits, based on which organisations are now focusing on increased energy efficiency. Since many of these approaches provide less financials benefits' which are harder to implement but provides improved environmental performance. So, the financials benefits and environmental performance should be the multiple objectives in the green IT study. In many geographic locations organisations need to pay for some carbon emissions. The soaring energy cost forces organisations to see energy as a costly resource. Data centres as IT resources are allocated to satisfy business needs. This research aims to align the business requirements with IT resource utilisation which can influence the resource efficiency of IT and reduces its environmental impact.
