A rapid carbon monoxide detection system was developed with the electrochemical functioncalization of polypyrrole (PPy) with ferrocenylmethyltrimethylammonium iodide (FTMA-I) as a co-dopant exhibits very high sensitivity to ppm levels of carbon monoxide gas and fast recovery under normal dry room temperature conditions. The co-dopant was synthesized mainly to incorporate into PPy electrochemically to modify the properties in order to sense carbon monoxide (CO) gas. The FTMA-I doped PPy exhibited the characteristics oxidation/reduction peaks for ferrocene in its cyclic voltammograms. The modified PPy films deposited on interdigited electrodes gave rapid sensitivity within a second to 300 ppm carbon monoxide gas and good sensitivity factor was observed even at 4 mmol of the functional groups in the polymer for 300 ppm carbon monoxide gas. This material detected the CO gas concentration as low as 100 ppm. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Polypyrrole functionalized with ferrocenyl derivative as a rapid carbon monoxide sensor

Uncemented THR can present component fixation problem.The loosening of the prosthesis is one of the main complications leading to revision of THR surgery. Bending in prosthesis stem is a notable feature.The geometric shape of prosthesis has a major role on the stress transfer in supporting structures. The objective of the present study is to analyse the mechanical satibility of steel SMP prosthesis and compare it with its equivalent implant using finite element method.The effect of joint force due to body weight and motion on the interface of prosthesis and bone are evaluated using F.E.M. Finite element model of healthy cadeveric femur bone implanted with SMP hip joint has been developed.SMP is Sancheti Modular Prosthesis which is the hip joint prosthesis developed as indegenised product. 3D finite element model is validated with experimental measurements. The mechanical properties and elastic constants of cortical femur bone are evaluated from cadveric femur donors of Indian origin. Displacement and sinking of shaft is observed experimentally. The stresses and displacements of interface boundary of prosthesis and bone are analysed to observe their effect on stresses and displacements at the interfaces and within the cortical bone. The stress level in bone at inters face of prosthesis and bone are compared for SMP and imported prosthesis. This analysis provided an insight/comparison of the mechanical effect of an implanted SMP which was developed as indeginised product over available imported prosthesis of its kind. Results emphasized the role of newly developed SMP,which will be manufactured in India. It is expected to be available at lesser price than imported prosthesis. Larger number of patients in India is expected to be benefited due to development of this hip joint. Finite element analysis of mechanical behavior of SMP hip joint implanted in femur bone

A given time series of significant wave heights invariably contains smaller or larger gaps or missing values due to a variety of reasons ranging from instrument failures to loss of recorders following human interference. In-filling of missing information is widely reported and well documented for variables like rainfall and river flow, but not for the wave height observations made by rider buoys. This paper attempts to tackle this problem through one of the latest soft computing tools, namely, genetic programming (GP). The missing information in hourly significant wave height observations at one of the data buoy stations maintained by the US National Data Buoy Center is filled up by developing GP models through spatial correlations. The gap lengths of different orders are artificially created and filled up by appropriate GP programs. The results are also compared with those derived using artificial neural networks (ANN).

Existence of flashlights in videos leads to false detection of scene change. Many algorithms have been suggested to either detect the flashlight or differentiate between flashlight and abrupt transition. All the existing algorithms have certain limitation in terms of restriction on duration of flashlights, nature of flashlight, threshold selection and computation time. To address these practical problems we propose a novel algorithm based on discrete cosine transform and discrete wavelet transform. This method suppress illuminations and increase the difference between frames at abrupt transition location with respect to illumination. Proposed algorithm also suggest automatic threshold for shot detection in addition to fast computation. As illuminations are suppressed independent of the duration and nature of flashlight, almost all false detection due to flashlight is avoided. This illumination suppression algorithm can also be the first preprocessing block for existing methods. The proposed algorithm is tested on various movie videos and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the method to avoid false positive due to flashlight. ©2008 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is a statistical and computational technique for revealing hidden factors that underlies set of random variable measurements of signals. A common problem faced in the disciplines such as statistics, data analysis, signal processing and neural network is finding a suitable representation of multivariate data. The objective of ICA is to represent a set of multidimensional measurement vectors in a basis where the components are statistically independent. In the present paper we deal with a set of images that are mixed randomly. We apply the principle of uncorrelatedness and minimum entropy to find ICA. The original images are then retrieved and compared with the original images with the help of estimated error.

The World Wide Web is growing at a rate of about a million pages per day, making it tougher for search engines to extract relevant information for its users. Earlier Search Engines used simple indexing techniques to search for keywords in websites and gave more weightage to pages with higher frequency of keyword occurrences. This technique was easy to trick by using meta-tags liberally, claiming that their page used popular search terms, thereby, made meta-tags useless for search engines. Another technique widely used was to repeatedly use popular search terms in invisible text (white text on a white background) to fool engines. These fallacies called for a set of algorithms which would sort the results using an unbiased parameter. The currently employed Link Analysis Algorithms make use of the structure present in 'hyperlinks', sorted and displayed depending on a 'popularity index' decided to pages linking to it. In this work, we have analyzed the mathematics behind these 'link analysis algorithms' and their effective use in ecommerce applications where they could be used for displaying 'personalized information'. © 2008 IEEE.

In large power utilities the provision of emergency eserve which is used for restoring the total system following the oss of on-line generation is an important indication of system ecurity. This reserve also has to be produced wholly within the ystem itself. Thus provision of adequate reserve is essential to ystem security but it is costly. Analysis and design of power system restoration in the context of generating plant islanding

Using routing technique, wireless sensor network WSN can route sensor data quickly. As there is only one next hop, transmissions can be fast. However, routed data only traverses its end-to-end path. So routing data to every node is difficult. Additionally, verifying transmission to each destination can be prohibitively expensive. Broadcast technique can scalably reach every node in a sensor network. Current sensor network routing protocols running on the mica2 hardware platform can route across approximately ten hops in a second after considering retransmissions, media access and contention [12], [14], [20]. The trickle broadcast protocol transmits at most once a second to minimize packet losses due to collisions [2]. This study presents a way to combine routing and broadcasting techniques to achieve reliable propagation of data packets. It brings out clearly, the reliability with which the control packets are propagated to all the nodes deployed in the network, as compared to pure broadcast based dissemination. Reliably disseminating a piece of data to every node is a basic requirement for WSNs.
