Comparison of absorption and adsorption

Multi-Antenna systems are expected to play very important role in future multimedia wireless communication systems. Such systems are predicted to provide tremendous improvement in spectrum utilization. In this paper we consider the capacity analysis of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems. Space-Time coding schemes are the practical signal design techniques to realize the information theoretic capacity limits of MIMO systems. Here the orthogonal space-time block codes are considered for the capacity and error probability analysis of MIMO systems as a case study. The numerical and simulation results obtained using MATLAB are presented for the Multi-antenna system channel capacity and bit-error probability in Rayleigh fading channels.

Capacity and performance analysis of space-time block codes in Rayleigh fading channels

The main concern dealing with Content-based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is to bridge the semantic gap. The high level query posed by the user and low level features extracted by the machine illustrates the problem of semantic gap. To solve the problem of semantic gap, this paper presents a hybrid technique using an emergence index and fuzzy logic for efficient retrieval of images based on the colour feature. Emergence Index (EI) is proposed to understand the hidden meaning of the image. Fuzzy Similarity Measure is developed to calculate the similarity between the target image and the images in the database. The images were ranked based on their similarity along with the fuzzy similarity distance measure. The preliminary experiments conducted on small set of images and promising results were obtained. © 2007 IEEE.

Human perception based image retrieval using emergence index and fuzzy similarity measure

Three-dimensional face-centered-cubic (fcc) photonic crystals (PhCs) are fabricated on quartz substrate using vertical deposition technique, and followed by annealing in a temperature range of 200-700 °C. The monodispersed SiO 2 microspheres with a diameter of 220 nm in colloidal solution are synthesized using tetraethylorthosilicate as a precursor material. The as grown opal structure exhibits a strong photonic band gap (PBG) around 450 nm in the transmission spectrum. We find that the position of PBG peak in the spectrum is relevant to incident angle of light. Moreover, it is very sensitive to annealing temperature. It quickly shifts to short wavelength direction with annealing temperature increasing. The effect results from the decrease in refraction index due to the moisture evaporation in silica microspheres. © 2006.

Fabrication and annealing analysis of three-dimensional photonic crystals

The visual quality of an encoded frame is related to the bits it consumes. To maintain stable quality throughout the video sequence, one needs to consider the distribution of the bit budget for each frame. Within the constraints of bit rate, in order to achieve high visual quality, number of parameters can be considered which include amount of motion present in the video, human visual system, bit allocation, quantisation parameter assignment, motion estimation and mode selection. This paper presents a method, which jointly considers the human visual systems and quality of video to be encoded for rate control. Improvement in performance is obtained as compared to TM5 algorithm used in MPEG2. The proposed technique evaluates the perceptual distortion sensitivity on a macroblock basis, and allocates fewer bits to regions permitting large perceptual distortions for rate reduction. © 2007 IEEE.

Genetic programming to recover missing data

The optical properties of substituted thiophenes with diverse structures have been analysed using molecular orbital calculations in order to understand the structure-property relations. Based on theoretical predictions, synthesis of some model compounds has been attempted. The experimentally obtained optical properties are in close agreement with the theoretically obtained results. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Structure and properties of polythiophene containing hetero aromatic side chains

Design, synthesis and characterization have been carried out on poly(thiophene)s bearing electron-deficient side chains. The influence of structure on the optical characteristics was studied in detail using molecular orbital calculations. The model compounds have been synthesized and their photoabsorption, photo- and electro-emission characteristics were studied. The results indicate that substituting appropriate heteroaromatic groups to the thiophene chain can enhance electro-emission, even with a single emissive layer, in PLEDs. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2006.

Poly(thiophenes) functionalised with thiazole heterocycles as electroluminescent polymers

The brain continuously receives the visual information or the information corresponding to some stimulus and elaborates and perceives this information. It uses electrical signals to process this information and then analyze it. The encoding of this complex information into simple electrical signal is done by the fundamental building block in the brain, called neuron. This paper deals with the effect of bidirectional communication with the neuron in the brain that is supplying the signals coming from the neurons externally and artificially to the brain and producing the same effect as that of the original signal. The paper also describes the hypothesis being investigated using data from an epileptic patient. The idea stated in the paper can help in developing an implantable neural system that can co- exist and bidirectionally communicate with the living brain tissue and thus substitute for the lost cognitive function due to damage and / or disease. © 2006 IEEE.

Effect of electrical signals and bioelectromagnetism in the human brain

Plastics have become a major factor in modern life and the massive volume of plastics in use has a significant effect on the environment. Major efforts are underway to reduce the impact of plastics on the environment and to make them more eco-friendly. Such efforts include the use of bio-materials instead of nonrenewable resources such as petroleum for manufacturing polymers.
