The aim of the present research study is to estimate the maximum permissible intrusive force mathematically with one-dimensional finite element method and to achieve the safe intrusion of a canine tooth without any damage to periodontal ligament (PDL). For this purpose, one-dimensional finite element (FE) model of a canine tooth was developed consisting of tooth (crown and root) and PDL structure. The maximum permissible intrusive force was computed mathematically. For this purpose, the maximum permissible stress was considered as `E-PDL/1.5', where `E-PDL' is the Young's Modulus of PDL and factor of safety (FOS) is 1.5. The maximum permissible intrusive force was computed to be approximately 10 g-force (gf). For verification of this computed force value, finite element analysis was carried out on 3-dimensional canine tooth, PDL and bone structures for better verification and it is proved that 10 g force (gf) value is safe without any damage to PDL tissues. Estimation of the maximum permissible intrusive force for intrusion of a canine tooth: one-dimensional finite element study

Electric Vehicles are becoming the future of the automotive industry and battery is the main component of Electric vehicles. The life span of the electric vehicle mainly depends on the performance of the battery which can be increased by the proper design of the battery management system (BMS). One of the factors that affect the battery performance and life span of an electric vehicle is the driving style. So, the supporting system to the BMS is developed that considers the effect of driving style on the performance of the battery. The system is implemented using MATLAB/Simulink tool which takes different driving cycles as input and obtained state of charge (SoC) as the output parameter. The main focus is to analyze the battery performance and its effect based on the different driving styles. The parameters like acceleration and deceleration account to determine the driving style like very aggressive, aggressive, and gentle. Finally based on battery capacity, the state of charge (SoC) is calculated for a different driving cycle. These observations are stored and analyzed to generate reports. These reports would be used to avoid the driving styles that are resulting in a decrease in battery performance and thus increases life span. © 2020 IEEE.

Impact of Driving Style on Battery Life of the Electric Vehicle

Biometrics is a set of highly automated methods used for recognition purposes including analyzing physical traits of people and statistically measuring them. In forensic applications, fingerprint and face images are mostly used for recognition. There is a need during a criminal investigation to find out a face image of a person from its fingerprint. The proposed method able to identify the face of a person using an associated fingerprint. In this paper, Bregman divergence regularization is used to learn and optimize transferring subspace. This method first gleans knowledge from samples that are meant for training and transfer it to the testing samples. This regularization helps to minimize the probability distribution differences between two different domains. It helps to find a common subspace that boosts the performance of independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) condition of samples. Practically the samples violate this i.i.d. condition. However, it will help to identify the correct suspect. © 2021

Transfer learning for face recognition using fingerprint biometrics

Demand forecasting is a crucial part of any company or supply chain. It aims at predicting and estimating the future demand of products to help in better decision-making. This paper is a literature review on different demand forecasting methodologies which are used in different industries. The industries which are mainly focused in this literature review are restaurants, retail stores, drug stores, supermarkets and supply chains. It is observed that different organizations employ different forecasting techniques based on their requirement from these methodologies: traditional statistical models, machine learning, deep learning models and hybrid models. Latest research in demand forecasting using these models is briefly described and their advantages and limitations are discussed. Furthermore, models are classified on the basis of characteristics of data and forecasting time periods. It is observed that these individual models do not always work efficiently with all kinds of data and therefore an integrated approach should be employed where all these models are implemented, evaluated and then the model giving the best accuracy is considered for that particular industry dataset. © 2021 IEEE.

Demand Forecasting: Literature Review On Various Methodologies

Air conditioning by using vapor compression cycle is the most commonly used system although its operating energy cost is significantly high. Liquid desiccant dehumidifier with Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC) is another alternative suitable for hot and humid climatic conditions. The system works in two parts. In liquid desiccant dehumidifier section, moisture from humid air is removed and such air is passed through Indirect Evaporative Cooling system where air is cooled. An attempt was made to set up an experimental module with Scheffler solar concentrator to provide thermal energy for evaporation of liquid desiccant while a new type of polymer plate exchanger was used in evaporative cooling section instead of commonly used metal heat exchanger. The experimentation was carried using CaCl2 desiccant with varying flow rates between 2 and 4 l/min in dehumidifier section and reduction of relative humidity by 4 to 9% was achieved. As desiccant flow rate was increased, it resulted into higher carry over losses. Experimentally, it was found that for a flow rate of 3 l/min, the carry over losses are minimum. For this flow rate of desiccant, secondary-to-primary-air ratio of 0.8, water flow rate of 11 l/min, and air cooling by 4.7°C were achieved. Maximum wet bulb and dew point effectiveness were found to be 0.61 and 0.42, respectively, for secondary-to-primary-air ratio of 0.8. It could be concluded that a polymer plate heat exchanger-based system could be considered as efficient system than metal plate heat exchanger systems, because longer life, lighter weight, and low operating cost are the characteristics of polymers. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Experimental Investigation of Solar based Liquid Desiccant Indirect Evaporative Cooling system

Age estimation has been paid great attention in the field of intelligent surveillance, face recognition, biometrics, etc. In contrast to other facial variations, aging variation presents several unique characteristics, which make age estimation very challenging. The overall process of age estimation is performed using three important steps. In the first step, the pre-processing is performed from the input image based on Viola-Jones algorithm to detect the face region. In the second step, feature extraction is done based on three important features such as local transform directional pattern (LTDP), active appearance model (AAM), and the new feature, deep appearance model (Deep AM). After feature extraction, the classification is carried out based on the extracted features using deep belief network (DBN), where the DBN classifier is trained optimally using the proposed learning algorithm named as crow-sine cosine algorithm (CS). Deep appearance model and crow-sine cosine algorithm-based deep belief network for age estimation

An electromagnetic field and artificial intelligence-based transmission line protection system for smart grid is proposed in this paper. Bayesian regularization neural network is used as an intelligence technique. Instead of conventional current transformers, the use of magnetic field sensors for monitoring the current in transmission lines is proposed. A mathematical model of the magnetic field due to the current in transmission line is developed by considering two positions of the magnetic field sensors. The developed model is simulated for extensive scenarios. Line to ground, line to line, double line to ground and three-phase faults are created. The fault current values are transformed into magnetic field values and given to the dyadic analysis filter bank for feature extraction process. The extracted features are given as an input to the neural network for the training. The Bayesian regularization algorithm is used as a training algorithm. The performance of the proposed system is compared with other algorithms. It shows that the proposed system with Bayesian regularization have 96.11% of accuracy with the combination of different faults. Electromagnetic field and artificial intelligence based fault detection and classification system for the transmission lines in smart grid

In today’s scenario knee implant is designed to replace the knee joint damaged bone. The evolution of knee arthroplasty with improved designs and longer implant life span has taken place in the last 30 years. Rapid improvements to gain the best possible results are been done. The objective of review is to examine the materials and manufacturing progress to find the best possible outcomes for future development. In knee implants, the biocompatible materials like zirconium, Titanium alloys, UHMWP (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene), smart materials have developed the performance of the implants. Coated implants are used for metal sensitive patients. The knee replacement techniques give a relief to the patient but there are many forces acting on the tibia and femoral components from the daily activities of a person. These constant forces and infections can lead to slow developed of wear in the joint. Some of the literatures discuss on knee joint simulation under different constraints and conditions which can be checked as its real time behavior. Many studies have done simulation analysis to know the behavior under the different static and dynamic loading conditions. There have been a few studies in field of knee arthroplasty, but different studies suggest different results. Present article viewed the overall growth in aspects of materials and coatings with better mechanical and biocompatible properties, manufacturing processes that will lead to simpler techniques, implant design, analysis of loads for reduction of wear, finite element analysis to validate the prior information, assessment of failure, sensitivity detections.

Recent developments and advancements in knee implants materials, manufacturing: A review

A Dental implant is a surgical procedure of fixing an artificial tooth inside the jawbone and allowed to heal over a span of time, in that performing Socket Shield Technique (SST) by preserving some part of root inside the extracted part called ‘Socket’ and depending upon the shield and implant position inside the socket will give different results. Aim of this study is by adapting the SST for immediate implant placement after the tooth extraction will give better stability and success rate over a period. to over the conventional technique there are number of trials going on and how to come up with optimum stress generation while implant placement and have better stability to it. Different researchers reported that by keeping the shield of 1.2-1.5 mm will give better results for selection of proper dimension of implant for implantation. The stability and success rate of dental implant is still has to be more clinically verified and more number of trials has to be adopted for conclusion. As per recent report shows the use of modified shield will have chances of getting higher success rate over one-year span, this study gives clear idea for proper selection of shield thickness and implant size to generate optimum stress over bone with less complications rate

Socket shield phenomenon at the bone-implant interface to improve stability and success rate of implantation

Irrigation plays a significant role in effective root canal therapy. It has different significant goals, which vary with the type of irrigant being used. The process of irrigation involves flushing out a root channel with water or a solution. Root canals have spaces that cannot be washed via mechanical means. The solution must enter the periapical portion of the root canal in order to achieve superior performance. Irrigation is mainly used because it is solely the one process which can impact those regions of the wall of the root channel which mechanical instruments cannot. In order to eliminate the bacteria from the walls of the root canal, irrigation techniques are used in endodontics. The two aims of an irrigation system are mechanical and biological functions. The mechanical and chemical goals of an irrigation method include functions such as detritus flushing, canal lubrication, tissue dissolution (organic and inorganic) and removal smear layer, whereas biological objectives include antimicrobic function. The purpose of study is to analyze and compare the different irrigation methods present in the field of endodontics and to determine the optimum method for a successful root canal treatment.
