This paper deals with a new compound broad crested weir for measurement of discharge. Calibration of broad crested weir is mainly dependent upon the length of the weir crest (L), weir height and upstream water head over weir crest (h). Hence measurement of discharge varies as per change in the flow characteristics due to change in the geometry of weir for a given flume. Based on experimental analysis, past researchers have shown that discharge coefficient (Cd) changes proportionally with h/L ratio, maintaining an average range of Cd for various h/L values. In the present study a novel approach towards design of compound broad crested weir is proposed which can effectively measure wide range of discharges thereby maintaining a constant discharge coefficient irrespective of the head over weir. Experimentation has been carried out in a laboratory horizontal tilting flume 2.5 m long, 20 cm wide and 30 cm deep. The investigation is carried out for discharge ranging from 10 lps to 2 lps. In the earlier experimentation conducted Cd was varying in the range from 0.518 to 0.648, after which the broad crested weir model is modified for suiting best results thereby resulting in the reformed discharge coefficient values of 0.546–0.599 which is in close proximity to the design input value of 0.6.

Experimental study for measuring discharge through compound broad crested weir

The response reduction efficiency of passive control viscous dampers installed between adjacent structures subjected to blast-induced vibrations was investigated. The blast-induced vibrations studied were mainly due to mining activities along with the accidental explosions in underground storage chambers. Equations of motion formulated by different researchers in examining the performance of damper-connected structures were reviewed. Two different types of structures (similar and dissimilar buildings) were selected to analyse the effectiveness of damper-connected buildings. A parametric study was also conducted to determine the optimum damper placement locations along with optimum damper properties for the similar buildings connected with viscous dampers. The results showed the efficiency of viscous dampers for the case of similar buildings. For dissimilar buildings, the peak responses were found to be almost equivalent for both connected and unconnected structures. Therefore, the root mean square responses were evaluated to compare the effect of blast vibrations beyond the initial impulse for the case of connected dissimilar buildings. In addition, the performance of similar structures connected with the same damping was compared with the responses obtained from different damping conditions to minimise the damping coefficient of dampers.

Chemical Resistance of Nano Silica Added Concrete

The concept of industrialization of the construction technology has emerged as well accepted and preferred option in the field of building construction now days in order to reduce in – situ construction up to maximum extent. Ferrocement is the one of the relatively new cementitious composite considered as a construction material. The main aim of this study is to investigate the behavior of Ferrocement panel under low velocity impact. Size of panel is 250 x 250 mm and thickness is varying from 20mm to 40mm. Corrugated fibers were added in panels. Volume of corrugated fibers was considered as 1.5% of total volume of panel. Weld mesh and woven mesh were used in ferrocement panels. Numbers of layers of mesh were 2 and 3. Height of drop is 1m. M30 and M40 Grade of mortar were used. Equivalent stress, Normal stress and Deformation were the main parameters for this research work. From the results it can be concluded that weld mesh with corrugated fibers is good at the impact resistance.

Effect of Mortar Strength On The Behaviour of Ferrocement Panel Under Low Velocity Impact

In Concrete flat slab opening was provided to provide services or to decrease self-weight of the slab. The flat slab with opening system is commonly used in different types of civil structures such as parking floor, Commercial building. In the Present study, total 15 slabs were casted to check the Adequacy of flat slabs with openings of different sizes and shapes. At the center of slab openings are provided with rectangular and circular shape. For rectangular opening 150x100mm and 200x150mm sizes were provided, and for circular opening 150mm and 110mm diameter the sizes of opening were provided. In this study Finite Element analysis of the flat slabs is proposed. A comparative study is carried out between experimental & analytical design of 750x500x150 mm slab panels. The ANSYS 16.0 finite element software which is used to analysis reinforced concrete (RC) slab models. The load has been applied at slab to calculate the maximum and minimum displacement, strain, stresses at each slab. The average deflections of size 150x100 mm rectangular opening were reduced by 25.52% as compared with size 200x150 mm rectangular opening. Similarly for a circular opening of 110mm diameter lesser by 11.39% as compared with 150mm diameter of opening.

Analysis Of Flat Slab With And Without Opening

The main objective of this investigation is to study the axial and flexural behavior of Ferrocement-LGS composite section when subjected to half cyclic uniaxial compression and half cyclic 4 point bending. The connection between the ferrocement LGS composite was done by self-tapping gypsum screw. 3 different specimen of length 450mm and 900mm are connected with 150mm screw spacing and epoxy are tested under axial loading and 2 specimen of length 900mm with different screw spacing of 150mm are tested under flexural loading. The parameters studied here are load carrying capacity, maximum deflection/deformation, damping, stiffness degradation, load vs deflection curve, bending moment capacity, modulus of elasticity and failure pattern. Comparison of results with different specimen are done. This research will further provide guidance for study on ferroocement LGS composite system for construction
