One of the challenging problems of gas production is the liquid loading of a gas well. It is the inability of the produced gas to remove the produced liquids from the well bore. This phenomenon has a significantly negative impact on gas well production rate and reservoir pressure due to build up of liquids in the well bore. The accumulated liquid may be in the form of formation water, condensed water or hydrocarbons condensate which acts as a hindrance to the formation gas getting produced. The ultimate recovery of gas is dependent on the economic removal of accumulated liquids, to allow the gas to get produced. This paper discusses a new idea of using dielectric heating using microwaves to heat and vaporize the water and hydrocarbons in the wellbore, if present. As a result of this heating, the fluid density decreases and the gas and vapours flow naturally to the surface. The frequency of microwaves in general is 2450 MHz; depending on the need, the frequency can be varied. Experiments were carried out on the use of this technology and the results are encouraging. Gas Well Deliquification Using Microwave Heating

An audiomagnetotelluric (AMT) study has been carried out in the Bakreswar Hot Spring (BHS) area of eastern India to locate the geothermal source in the vicinity of BHS. Phase-tensor analysis of the AMT data shows that the region is broadly 2D. Rapid relaxation inversion (RRI) for both transverse-electric (TE) and transverse-magnetic (TM) modes has been carried out to obtain resistivity images of the subsurface. AMT results show that the north-south fault close to Bakreswar is a shallow feature, not deeper than m and thus cannot act as a heat source. The subsurface formation below the fault zone is highly resistive up to a great depth, indicating the absence of a heat source and geothermal reservoir in the vicinity of the BHS. AMT results indicate that the location of the geothermal reservoir is deep and lies beyond the profiles of measurement in the northwestern side of the Bakreswar Hot Spring. {\textcopyright} 2010 Society of Exploration Geophysicists.

Precise and accurate determination of the magnetotelluric (MT) impedance is fundamental to valid interpretation. This paper deals with the results of hybrid processing schemes in conjunction with the remote reference (RR), for a typical site out of several sites collected over the wide band data (∼103 to 10-3 Hz). The standard practice of MT impedance estimation is the use of robust processing in conjunction with the remote referencing. The estimation by robust technique helps in reducing the effect of outliers in the electric field but is often not sensitive to the exceptional predictor (magnetic field) data, which are called leverage points. The data processed with robust M estimation (RME) exacerbated the bias problem in the dead band. The application of hybrid (coherence weighted estimation (CWE) + RME, rho-variance weighting + RME) and extra hybrid (CWE + rho variance + RME) approach helps in reducing the influence of both the outliers in the electric field and the leverage points. These two approaches perform considerably better than either data weighting scheme by itself. Copyright 2006 by the American Geophysical Union.

MT survey over the geothermal region of Bakreshwar for investigation deeper geo-electrical structure

The paper deals with the study related to electrical conductivity structure in the geothermal province of Bakreswar. Audio magnetotelluric (AMT) surveys have been carried out with a very close interval to identify the geological features related to the geothermal springs of the province. Initially, MT measurements in the geothermal province were carried out which show that the near surface structure in and around Bakreswar geothermal spring is 1D or 2D in nature and the structure is 3D at greater depth. The variation of resistivity even over a short distance near hot spring appears significant and therefore, detail AMT survey with closer station interval was carried out. 2D RRI model along the east-west profile passing through the Bakreswar hotsprings has been prepared. The study reveals that the source is not exactly below the hotsprings located over the fault which is continuing up to a depth of 200 - 300 m only. The fault cannot act as a source as it is not sufficiently deep to supply the heat to the hydrothermal system. A conducting zone of considerable size has been outlined in the west of Bakreswar which may act either as a partial or complete source.
