Automobiles are subjected to varied harmonic vibration loads that are generated by the engine at various RPM levels within the operating condition. Facing resonant frequencies of PCB within the operating frequency range can cause damage to PCB due to large amplitudes generated. To avoid the resonance situation, either external excitation frequency should be changed or natural frequency of the component. Normally, we do not have any control over external excitation frequency and hence the practical approach is to alter/change the natural frequency. Natural frequency according to the formula depends on the mass (inversely proportional) and stiffness (directly proportional). In practical situations, the natural frequency is altered by changing the stiffness rather than mass. This can be done by changing the boundary conditions (support), the addition of ribs/stiffeners, change in thickness of stiffeners, or by using stiffer material, etc. More accurate results can be observed by achieving convergence in meshing and accurate modelling of PCB. This paper demonstrates free flexural vibrations analysis of a stiffened PCB investigated by using finite element analysis (FEA). The PCB considered for analysis is inside the engine electronic control unit (ECU) of an automobile which is mounted near the engine. The reason to consider this PCB is that maximum vibrations are encountered here.

Modelling and Analysis of PCB Vibration

Synthetic fibers were used as reinforcements for a long period of time due to their excellent properties and compatibility with natural rubbers. Tensile properties and manufacturability of natural fabrics- Jute and Bamboo are studied. Layer by layer type of composite was manufactured by compression moulding and the crosslinking of matrix and reinforcement was done by using chemlok 250 as adhesive. Properties obtained from the tests are given in this paper. Production was carried out in two stages, 1st stage was by using adhesive and the results were compared and based on these results 2nd stage of manufacturing was carried out without using adhesive and specimens of ASTM D412 standard die type A was obtained by water jet cutting. Tensile test was carried out on the basis of ASTM D412 standard. Results show that the strength of bamboo fabric as reinforcement increases the strength of material and can be used in many applications. Short fibers are always used as reinforcement in polymers for increasing their mechanical properties; one can also use the fabrics as reinforcement in different fields to increase the mechanical properties of the composites. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Uniaxial tensile properties for bamboo and jute fabric reinforced natural rubber

Understanding and solving fluid-related problems pose a significant demand for computationally inexpensive flow simulations, which the conventional fluid mechanics approach fails to satisfy. Thus, researchers choose to incorporate fluid mechanics with Machine Learning (ML) as a possible solution. This technology provides several tools and algorithms that help with prediction-based decision making, building optimized control theories, experience-based learning, and many more, all of which depend upon available data. Since its inception, the field of fluid mechanics has generated a lot in terms of experimental and simulation data. Hence, we can apply Machine Learning to extract meaningful information from fluid flow databases. Complex domains of fluid mechanics such as turbulence modeling, active flow control, and optimization all seek to gain from such a multidisciplinary approach. However, these domains from the world of fluids pose new problems for the data science world. These newly found complexities encourage engineers to create more robust learning models than conventional ones. Thus, a blend of fluid mechanics and machine learning creates a powerful and vastly complex field of study that will help completely revolutionize current research and industrial applications. This paper covers research from the earliest to some of the most recent ML algorithms and provides a brief overview of ways these algorithms complement the field of fluid mechanics. Three case studies—turbulence closure modeling using ML, flow control and manipulation using ML, and aerodynamic shape optimization, are used to explain this. To help better understand these applications, the underlying fundamentals of supervised, semi-supervised, and unsupervised learning models and some of the most widely used algorithms are also under consideration in the paper. Photoplethysmography Sensors Concept and Advancements: A Review

Coordinate Measuring Machine is used to inspect the manufactured products to ensure that they meet the desired specifications. In most of the inspection software, including PMI, the inspection process involves loading of the CAD model, selecting an inspection feature, feeding the PMI into the inspection software, and selecting an appropriate inspection strategy depending on the type of feature. Inspection results are then compared with the nominal tolerance values. This process involves the application engineer’s input at multiple stages. The automatic inspection process is becoming an important requirement in industries, which adds value to the inspection software and eliminates human intervention. In PMI-based inspection planning, the CAD model affixed with PMI is fed to the inspection software, then most of the traditional inspection steps are automated by reading and extracting PMI from the CAD model, identifying the feature associated with a PMI and then developing an inspection strategy on the identified feature. Later, results are validated by feeding the inspection points in the inspection software. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Innovative PMI-Based Inspection Planning for Planar and Cylindrical Features

An aerodynamic surfaces which are on the leading facet of the wings of the aircraft with fixed wings are known as Slat. When they are deployed the wings operate at greater angle of attack. This research paper introduces a modified design of slat section 1 which is modelled using modelling software CATIA. The proposed design will allow fitting an antenna made up of Kevlar which is a composite material. Kevlar is ten times stronger than stainless steel, raio-transparent and is bullet proof, these properties are essential for fighter aircrafts. The meshing is done using meshing software HyperMesh as it provides better tools for meshing. FEM Analysis of slats is done with help of designing and analysis software Patran.. Analysis results of modified structure are contrasted with the results of earlier metallic slats structure. Results obtained shows that it is preferable to replace aluminium metal by Kevlar Composite. It is an important factor to reduce weight in aerospace sector. Ribs of modified structure are optimized in this paper by removing material in different cut section such as trapezoidal, circular and triangular. Results of all three ribs with different cut sections are compared. It is observed that Ribs with circular cut section generate lower stress. Hence ribs with circular cut section are selected for manufacturing. It helps in reduction of overall weight of the slat.

Modelling And Comparative FEA Of Conventional Metallic &amp; Composite Structure Of Slat With Optimization Of Ribs

This research paper is focused on Industry 4.0's importance, effect and thus the Internet-connected techniques for organizations and society to create value-Added structure. Industry 4.0 is the fourth industrial revolution which is based on cyber-physical systems, where assets can gather, store, and analyze the real-Time data to improve utilization efficiency. The internet of things pivotal to the new industrial revolution has resulted in 'Industry 4.0'. This paper's aim is to synthesize the recognized theory and methods of Industry 4.0 and to study the modifications resulting from Industry 4.0 and the development of the internet of things. Influence of Industry 4.0 on Manufacturing Processes

This paper describes a half car model of an active suspension where control strategy is based on controlling the mass flow rate of air into the air spring. Three control strategies based on controlling the mass flow rate of air into air spring are presented. Equations of motion are developed and solved using MATLAB. Using the results of the simulation of the model based on each of these control strategies for different gain values in the control system, it is concluded that the stiffness of the suspension can be dynamically controlled by using a suitable value of gain in the control system. It is observed that an undamped active air suspension based on mass flow control having the mass flow of air into air spring as a function of the relative velocity between the sprung and unsprung mass with the gain equal to one has zero response of the sprung mass in bounce. The response of sprung mass in bounce and pitching motion is less than the input from the road for the damping ratio in suspension not exceeding 0.3. Hence, the control strategy based on mass flow control having the mass flow of air to air spring as a function of the velocity of sprung mass with respect to the velocity of unsprung mass with the gain equal to one is proposed.

Active Air Suspension for a Vehicle Based on Control of Air Mass Flow Rate

In the present study, a novel method of active vibration control of machines subject to base excitation using air spring is proposed. The study also includes proposes of a feedback control system, for active vibration control with mass flow rate as a function of the velocity of the mass, and/or base of air spring. Earlier study shows application of air spring as a force actuator. The mass flow introduces additional input excitation into the system by means of which the stiffness or resultant excitation force on the mass can be changed. A mathematical model is developed and response to steady state and transient base input are obtained. The use of appropriate value of gain in the system can ensure that the amplitude of response to excitation from the base is lower than the amplitude of base excitation. Some suitable values of gain depending on the special cases considered are suggested. An active control system with mass flow rate as a function of base velocity and gain equal to − 1 is most effective in controlling the vibration. This is highly desirable in case of high precision equipment. The interesting observation is that the spring rate can be changed and even made negative.

Active Vibration Control using Air Spring

Design and performance result of a CPC (Compounded Parabolic Concentrator) water heating system is presented. The system consists of 10 evacuated glass tubes (absorbers), CPC for each tube and manifolds. Calculations are done to calculate the acceptance angle for heating 60 lit/hr water up to 80oC. Fabrication is done using suitable manufacturing processes and leak test of welded joints is done. Results are obtained using Pt100 sensor for CPC system and compared with the ETC system for 5 hours. Rise of 10 % is observed when CPC is used.
