Background: Personal care and pharmaceuticals products affect the ambient water quality when these materials enter the environment in the form of human and animal excreted metabolites or as effluents from hospitals, pharmacies, and chemical manufacturing facilities. The stated compounds are difficult to capture and pose a serious threat to the aquatic ecosystem, and human health. Photocatalytic Degradation (PCD) is seen to be an attractive and inexpensive method, when compared to the ones such as ozonation, photo-Fenton oxidation, sonolysis, and photolysis for the elimination of pharmaceutical compounds from the wastewater.Methods: Owing to the underlying complex nonlinear physicochemical phenomena, the design and construction of a “first principles” model for predicting the rate constant of the PCD is a timeconsuming and tedious process. To overcome the said difficulty, in this study, the stated mathematical models have been developed-for the first time-using an artificial intelligence (AI) based novel datadriven modeling method, namely, genetic programming (GP). The GP-based model predicting the rate constant of the PCD of pharmaceuticals uses following inputs: time of exposure of pharmaceutical pollutant to the solar radiation, pH of wastewater, concentration degraded during the measured time, and the ratio of concentration degraded to the initial concentration of the sample. In this study, PCD of three pharmaceutical pollutants, namely, Ciprofloxacin, Naproxen, and Paracetamol was studied and modeled using a single GP-based model. In the model’s input space, the three pharmaceutical pollutants were differentiated using a number of attributes related to their molecular structures.Result: The GP-based model predicting the rate constant of the PCD, proposed in this study, exhibits an excellent prediction accuracy [correlation coefficient (CC) > 0.9] and generalization performance.Conclusion The GP-based modeling strategy introduced here can be fruitfully used in the development of models for a variety of other pharmaceutical degradation reactions.

Magnetic water has been used in different fields like agriculture, health care, dairy production, and oil industries. Recent researchexhibits that Magnetised Water can be used in concrete to improve the properties of concrete like Compressive strength,workability, tensile strength etc. In the present study effect of Magnetised Water on Strain of Concrete of different grades isstudied experimentally. Compressive strength tests carried out on Cubes & Cylinders cast with Normal Water & MagnetisedWater Based on the experimental results conclusion is drawn. Conducting tests on Concrete specimens cast in M20, M25 & M30grades of concrete Strength tests conducted on this magnetic water concrete (MWC) showed encouraging results and one caneasily replace normal water with magnetic water for mixing of concrete.

Experimental Investigation of Properties of Concrete Cast in Magnetized Water

The deformed sedimentary sequence exposed in the core of Precambrian Kaladgi Basin, North Karnataka India, has given rise to prominent regional basinal structures with intervening anticlines. Deformation ceases away from the core part. The basinal structures are recognised on satellite images, aerial photographs and toposheets because of resistant segmented ridges of quartzite. A closure view of Bhuvan images around Yadwad village, North Karnataka, the core portion of Kaladgi Basin also revealed presence of folded geometry in the older carbonates of Bagalkot Group seen along the margins of the regional folds. Though folding in the sequence exposed in the region around Yadwad and further west is described by many authors, no detailed analysis of structures is available in published literature. An attempt is made here to map, analyse and integrate the structures in carbonates of Yadwad region on different scales observed in the field to find out their possible origin. It is suggested that the structures are syntectonic in origin formed in the presence of circulating fluids in high pressure and low temperature during the post depositional phase the Bagalkot sequence in which gravity played an important role in the formation of regional structures. The sequence also has recorded low grade of metamorphism as seen from the thin section observations.

Analysis of Folding in the Proterozoic Sedimentary Sequence of Bagalkot Group Exposed around Yadwad, N Karnataka, India: a Study Based on Remote Sensing Techniques and Field Investigations

This paper presents design of 2:1 MUX using adiabatic logic style PAL2NSM and the results of energy dissipation are compared with simple CMOS 2:1 MUX. PAL2NSM is a dual rail logic and it works on single phase AC supply voltage. Hence, instead of using constant supply voltage like in conventional CMOS circuits, power-clock supply (PC) which is in the form of sinusoidal or ramp signal is used as supply voltage. The simulated results are obtained using BSIM3v3 Spectre models in standard 0.18m CMOS technology using Cadence design environment. The delay comparison is performed for pre-layout (schematic view) and post-layout simulations under different operating conditions.

Pass transistor adiabatic Logic with NMOS Pull-down configuration in stand-by mode

In this paper, comparison of seven backpropagation algorithms used in neural network is made for the three phase power quality assessment. Voltage sag and swell are the two disturbances taken into account for comparing the algorithms. These disturbances are generated with the help of programming in MATLAB. The input data, to train the network is the generated sag and swell disturbances. The backpropagation algorithms are taken into account for comparison are conjugate gradient descent, Levenberg-Marquardt, one step secant, Baysian regularization, scaled conjugate gradient descent, gradient descent with momentum and gradient descent with adaptive learning rate. The seven algorithms are used to train the seven networks and tested using simulation model in MATLAB. After testing is done, the comparison is made on the basis of mean squared error, number of neurons, percent of accurate cases detected, number of iterations required for the training process. The testing results for the each algorithm and comparison are presented.

Comparison of seven backpropagation algorithms for three phase power quality assessment

Smart City-based electronic product applications are gaining importance nowadays. It contains efficient urban mobility, efficient public transportation, e-governance, safety and security, smart lighting system, etc. The main focus of this work is to present a design of street light controller to provide a reduction in power consumption and wireless control which eventually will provide a reduction in the required budget of electricity for street lights. Reducing power consumption leads to a reduction in brightness of lamps. This kind of street lighting states to open street lighting that adapts to movement by cars, walkers or cyclists. The system will work as adaptive street lighting. Lights will be obscured when no action is detected and will light up when some movement is detected. For this situation, the lighting framework is not quite the same as old-fashioned, static enlightenment, or dimmable road lighting that diminishes at pre-decided circumstances. Excessive lighting can be banned by targeted dimming of zones of the city, roads or individual luminaires. According to traffic and crowd, the light intensity will be controlled. This paper also incorporates light sensors which will be useful in a rainy environment. Number of street lights will be controlled by the user at a remote place. The complete system will work on RTC where lights will be running at 100% intensity in peak traffic time and with reduced intensity after peak traffic time. © 2017 IEEE.

Energy efficient street light controller for smart cities

Localization of an unmanned vehicle, locating it in a three-dimensional space and identifying its acceleration, velocity, position and orientation accurately is a very challenging and demanding task. One of the most common systems used for localization is an Inertial Navigation System, which uses accelerometers and gyroscopes to determine position and orientation of the body in three-dimensional space. Accelerometers used in an Inertial Motion Unit (IMU) are very sensitive and susceptible to noise due to vibrations and shocks. This paper displays observations from the analysis of the various signal processing algorithms used to extract position and velocity from an accelerometer. This paper aims to enhance reliability and accuracy and overcome drawbacks of accelerometers in an inertial navigation system. © 2016 IEEE.

Signal conditioning algorithms on accelerometers in an Inertial Navigation System (INS)

Smart video surveillance is a IOT-based application as it uses Internet for various purposes. The proposed system intimates about the presence of any person in the premises, also providing more security by recording the activity of that person. While leaving the premises, user activates the system by entering password. System working starts with detection of motion refining to human detection followed by counting human in the room and human presence also gets notified to neighbor by turning on alarm. In addition, notification about the same is send to user through SMS and e-mail. The proposed system’s hardware implementation is supported by Raspberry Pi and Arduino board; on the other hand, software is given by OpenCV (for video surveillance) and GSM module (for SMS alert and e-mail notification). Apart from security aspect, system is intelligent enough to optimize power consumption wastage if user forgets to switch off any electronic appliances by customizing coding with specific appliances. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

Iris Recognition, an evolving biometric identification technique which provides individual authentication based on unique feature or characteristic possessed by the individual. This paper provides general framework and related work in the iris recognition. Iris recognition improves the efficiency of biometric identification.
