The design of triple concentric tube heat exchanger (TCTHE) requires heat transfer coefficient (HTC) values for all three fluid streams as input parameters. The fluid through intermediate tube transfers heat to other fluids simultaneously. The present study applies a concept of thermal resistance network and quadratic equation is developed for computing HTC of intermediate fluid for TCTHE under adiabatic condition. ‘Oil ISO VG 22’ is taken as intermediate fluid and is cooled by using water as inner and outer cooling fluid in the present work. The HTCs of inner and outer cooling fluids are calculated from the well-established empirical correlations available in the literature. CAD modelling is done using Catia V5 and simulation is carried out using STAR CCM+ CFD software. The results of the method are compared with those obtained from mathematical models in the literature as well as results from CFD analysis are validated. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Estimation of heat transfer coefficient for intermediate fluid stream in triple concentric tube heat exchanger

The present work aims to develop an integrated heat transfer and hydrodynamic model for the study of boiler dynamics in fluctuating load conditions. A transient heat transfer model has been developed to estimate water side heat transfer and it is directly integrated with the hydrodynamic model. Two independent natural circulation circuits for furnace water wall and convection tube bank have been considered due to differences in heat transfer, dryness fraction, and void fraction. The transient heat transfer model calculates the heat transfer and water wall temperature of the various sections to calculate total gas side heat transfer, gas temperature profile, and waterside heat transfer in the furnace water wall and convection tube bank. Mass momentum and energy conservation equations are generated for both natural circulation circuits using the estimated value of waterside heat transfer of the transient heat transfer model. These equations are integrated with mass and energy conservation equations for the drum below water level and drum above water level to generate a system of equations to estimate drum pressure and water level fluctuation. This model has been extended for boiler feedback control systems, including the load management and the water level control system. © 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

Dynamic modeling of a water tube boiler

As the intricacy of problems encountered increases, humans need to explore space, hence demanding more experiments to be performed at different physical conditions. Nanosatellites are not only cheap and flexible but they are also validated in space which can be used as extensions for the larger satellites for more wider applications. The materials chosen for space applications are based on their properties, costs and complexity. Some of the materials that are used include, metal and its alloys, fiber composites. Out of these, aluminum and its alloys such as, Al 7075 – T6, are widely used for spacecraft manufacturing. Due to certain disadvantages of aluminum, there is an increase in the research and development of composite materials such as, HTM143/M55J and T300/5208, are used for space applications because they offer high structural strength in comparison to metallic alloys, but at a lighter weight which improves fuel efficiency and performance. The main objective of the research is to provide a comprehensive description and comparative study of the materials that can be used in improving the structural design and weight of the nanosatellite. Static structural analysis was carried out to analyze the feasibility of using composites as an alternative to metallic alloys on the basis of stress and deformation value. The material HTM143/M55J shown major improvement in the weight and strength ratio as compared to other two materials. © 2022

Optimization of 1U nanosatellite on the basis of strength and weight using different Materials: A numerical approach

This paper highlights the problems faced during the pandemic, as this pandemic caused adverse ramifications and washed out many vulnerable communities. Healthcare systems and providers raised their capabilities and capacities promptly to battle challenges that were unprecedented. Yet, a lack of prompt response has led to huge global losses in all the major sectors. Hence, after analysing such vulnerabilities, how can communities resist and withstand such vulnerabilities to survive. This paper recommends the elements of resilient communities and aims to contribute six futuristic strategies from the identified pitfalls and the potential scope for mitigating the impact and accelerating the road for recovery and resilience. Acknowledging the social change, this paper also presents a product solution to protect oneself from disorders caused by the SARS Covid-19 virus. This ergonomically designed product is versatile, and its unique features make it user-friendly which will protect, revive, and recover the immunity for users of all age groups and especially the ones who are always on the go. An Intensive Analysis of the Problems and Strategies Implemented During the COVID-19 Outbreak: Mitigate, Recover, Rehabilitation and Build Resilient Communities

Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have been significant contributors to the development of sophisticated systems and models for cardiovascular disease (CVD) management. There is a wide scope of applications available today. Electrocardiography (ECG), cardiovascular image analysis and wearables for remote monitoring are the most consistently developing domains that are beginning to be AI-driven as technology and software advance over time. Furthermore, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, AI has been utilised for cardiovascular disease management, drug targeting and risk analysis. The aim of the review is to highlight the recent advancements related to CVD management using AI and ML-based technologies. The works of literature reviewed in the present study consider the advancements of AI and ML-based CVD management technologies developed in the past decade. The different methods and technologies were studied, the working of various AI and ML algorithms have been discussed and few research gaps have been identified. The current implementations of AI algorithms lay a foundation to reduce the time and effort required to develop newer systems for future developments. Subsequently, overcoming the limitations of data processing techniques, many parameters required, and standardized datasets will improve the accuracy, implementation and interoperability of the AI and ML-based technologies for seamless integration in healthcare. © 2022 IEEE.

Current Advancements in Cardiovascular Disease Management using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Models: Current Scenario and Challenges

The current study aims to examine the stress behavior along with the Knee Implant components namely femoral, tibial cushion, and the tibial insert where the femoral and tibial insert components are made of Ti–6Al–4V alloy and the tibial cushion component is varied with different polymer-based biomaterials like Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), Poly-Ether-Ether-Ketone (PEEK) and Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA). A three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) of knee implant is prepared using Autodesk Fusion 360 modeling software. The static structural analysis is carried considering a load of 2000 N (3 times the body weight of an average 68 kg person). Three material models are used in which the femoral and tibial insert materials are kept constant and only the tibial cushion material is varied. The purpose of this study is to test the applicability of PEEK and PMMA bio-materials in the field of knee prosthetics using a numerical approach. The PEEK and PMMA materials are mostly used in spinal implants, dental implants, and hip replacement surgeries which need to verify using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The static structural deformation and the von-Mises stress behavior of the femoral, tibial cushion, and tibial insert are analyzed and studied. The Material Model (MM-I) with a tibial cushion made of UHMWPE material, and the femoral and tibial insert made of Ti-6Al-4V alloy shows better stress behavior (Minimum stress generation) than the other material models. This study validates the reason for preference of UHMWPE material over any other biomaterial, for the tibial cushion component of a knee implant. © 2021

Optimization of a knee implant with different biomaterials using finite element analysis

A large amount of heat is produced in the IC engine during the combustion process, which directly affects the performance, fuel efficiency, and life of the engine. Extended surfaces are extensively uised in many engineering applications as they are simple to design, consume less space, weigh less. Implementation of high emissivity nanoparticles increases the heat transfer by increasing the surface area of the component. In this research, a plasma coating technique was used to provide a coating of silicon carbide (SiC) nanoparticles on 4-stroke IC engine fins. Furthermore, a Finite Element model identical to the test rig was generated and a numerical simulation was carried out using the FEA technique to investigate the heat dissipation, total heat flux and directional heat flux under applied temperature conditions. The emissivity and heat transfer results obtained from the test rig showed improvement in emissivity and enhancement in heat transfer through the fins. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor &amp; Francis Group.

Increasing heat transfer in 4-stroke SI engine fins by nanocoating

Solar energy is being used at different applications and is proving to be a major renewable source of energy. The photovoltaic cells used in CPV are costly and less efficient. The recurrent method of the concentration of light by means of parabolic reflectors has a lot of drawbacks. The most efficient way to concentrate solar energy is to use a Fresnel lens for the full use of sunlight aspect ratio. In this work, Fresnel lens design parameters are studied and simulated. The temperature change in outside operation conditions has been recognised during design stages. After that, an analysis of the focal length change is carried out via simulation. To reduce the chromatic aberration behaviour due to the dispersion relationship between the material's refractive index and wavelength, it was assumed that each Fresnel lens groove has a varied wavelength design. The golden wavelength approach was used to determine the optimal wavelength design in the 0.54 m to 1.04 m range of the optimum solar spectrum. The results obtained are encouraging. It was found that the method of selecting different wavelengths for each concentric ring improves the flux distribution as well as the dispersion of the solar spectrum. © 2021

Study on design and performance enhancement of Fresnel lens solar concentrator

Emotions play an essential role in human life for planning and decision making. Emotion identification and recognition is a widely explored field in the area of artificial intelligence and affective computing as a means of empathizing with humans and thereby improving human machine interaction. Though audio visual cues are vital for recognizing human emotions, they are sometimes insufficient in identifying emotions of people who are good at hiding emotions or people suffering from Alexithymia. Considering other dimensions like Electroencephalogram (EEG) or text, along with audio visual cues can aid in improving the results in such situations. Taking advantage of the complementarity of multiple modalities normally helps capture emotions more accurately compared to single modality. However, to achieve precise and accurate results, correct fusion of these multimodal signals is solicited. This study provides a detailed review of different multimodal fusion techniques that can be used for emotion recognition. This paper proposes in-depth study of feature-level fusion, decision-level fusion and hybrid fusion techniques for identifying human emotions based on multimodal inputs and compare the results. The study concentrates on three different modalities i.e., facial images, audio and text for experimentation; at least one of which differs in temporal characteristics. The result suggests that hybrid fusion works best in combining multiple modalities which differ in time synchronicity.

Review on Multimodal Fusion Techniques for Human Emotion Recognition

The single point incremental sheet forming method includes characteristics that can adapt to a wide range of applications and needs. Incremental forming might have undesirable quality if process parameters are not properly set. A simulation software ABAQUS was used to perform single point incremental forming of polyamide 6 by varying parameters such as tool rotational velocity, feed rate, feed per revolution, and wall angle to investigate their influence on the thickness thinning and geometric accuracy of the formed component. Experimentation was performed using a 3-Axis Numerical Control Milling Machine to study the different defects occurring throughout the process. The investigation was performed on a 100 mm × 100 mm flat polyamide-6 plates. Taguchi L9 orthogonal array was adopted to evaluate minimum number of iterations essential for computing supremacy of forming parameters on minimum thickness achieved from the fabricated component. The geometries obtained from simulation and by experiments were compared for final thickness, depth, and wall angle. Maximum thickness and depth that can be achieved was found out to be 0.71 mm and 18.52 mm respectively through experimentation. The wall angle achieved with experimentation was found to be increased with an average of 1.76° when compared to desired geometry. A coordinate measurement machine was used to obtain the profile of the formed geometry. It has been observed that, the wall angle was the most dominant parameter that affects the thickness thinning, followed by the feed rate of feed, feed per revolution and spindle speed. There is need to create multi-stage solutions for improving formation limits. This will help to maximise the forming window by utilising consistent thinning. © 2022
