Human activity recognition framework is facing many challenges and issues that are promoting the development of a new activity recognition system to improve accuracy under realistic conditions. Therefore, efficient human activity detection is proposed in this paper. At first, the input video is converted into frames then the keyframes are selected using a structural similarity measure. Next, the local and global features are selected from the video frames. Finally, the selected features are fed to the classifier for identifying human activity. In the proposed method, the traditional deep learning algorithm is improved by applying optimization techniques. Adaptive Monarch Butterfly Optimization algorithm (AMBO) is used to improve the performance of the traditional deep learning algorithm. Monarch Butterfly Optimization Algorithm (MBO) is a population-based natural inspired algorithm. It mimics the foraging and the social behavior of the butterflies. The optimal parameters are selected for activity detection. The proposed method is computed based on accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity and implemented using the MATLAB platform. Hybrid Features Enabled Adaptive Butterfly Based Deep Learning Approach for Human Activity Recognition

The purpose of the work is to store the solar energy using Phase Change Materials (PCMs) to ensure hot water is available even at night time. The system consists of a shell & tube heat exchanger which is the core part of the system. Shell consists of heat transfer fluid which is mainly water and the tube consists of Phase Change Materials (PCM). The storage unit absorbs the heat of the heat transfer fluid whereas the fluid is heated by the solar radiations during sunshine period. The Paraffin wax is used as a Phase Change Material (PCM). At the start of the day, the receiver of the solar collector is filled with the water completely. When the receiver produces the required output quantity of hot water, then the excess water will be stored in the storage tank with certain heat loss. While water is flowing through the heat exchanger, the PCM changes its phase by absorbing latent heat. The efficiency of the system is in inverse proportion with the amount of heat energy lost in the time interval between the charging & discharging phase of the PCM. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Design analysis of heat exchanger for the solar water heating systems using phase change materials

Computer vision has become a highly evolving field in recent years, dealing with methods for obtaining, processing, examining, and understanding digital images. Human face recognition in computer vision has a vital role to play in security and surveillance, and the mechanisms for increasing the security levels are strengthening day by day. The existing human face recognition system has been enhanced by introducing an anti-spoofing mechanism which will help to stop a nefarious person to intentionally get around with the system. This article focuses on an approach to detect a human face using texture analysis which includes computing a Histogram of Gradients (HOG) over a region of the face and then uses Support Vector Machines (SVMs) to recognize a face. A blink detection mechanism used in this article ensures the liveliness of the person, making the system more reliable. A Raspberry Pi module is used in implementing the work involved in this paper and the programming is done in Python using libraries like OpenCV and NumPy. This model can achieve a maximum accuracy of 92.68% and achieves optimal results during the afternoon, taking a total of 9.89 seconds for face recognition and blink detection. © 2021 IEEE.

Anti-Spoofing Door Lock Using Face Recognition and Blink Detection

Batteries act as one of the primary sources of energy for high power Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). The life of the battery becomes a significant constraint while building an HEV. So researchers found Lithium-ion batteries are more suitable for HEV with a better lifecycle. But the manufacturing cost of Lithium-ion batteries is expensive. Thus, while designing an economic HEV, the cost of batteries also a constraint. In subsequent years, lead-acid batteries are found one of the best alternatives for lithium-ion. Sulfation is the main problem in lead-acid batteries. So de-sulfation is a solution to recover the sulphated lead-acid battery. But de-sulfation was not found as a better solution for preventing sulfation. Hence battery management system for proper charging or discharge is found as a passive solution for the sulfation. In literature, many methods are reviewed related to proper charging and a discharging controller which may trap in sulfation problem. Hence, this paper, an Atom Search Algorithm (ASA) based Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) is designed to enable proper charging and discharging controller for increasing the lifecycles of the lead-acid battery by avoiding sulfation. The lead-acid battery is connected with Ultra-Capacitor (UC) through a bidirectional DC-DC converter to enable proper charging and to discharge of controller in a. The lifetime extension of lead-acid battery is attained by maintaining the proper charging and discharging through the conservation of Depth of Charge (DOC) and State of Charge (SOC). The charging and discharging controller of the lead-acid battery are enabled by a rule-based control strategy in the converter. The optimal operation of the converter is to provide essential supply to meet the load drive cycle as well as battery charging progress. To avoid battery's dry conditions, UC is playing the leading role to supply by the converter. The controller action is performed through the consumption of the Fractional-Order Proportional Integral Derivative Controller (FOPID) in the bidirectional DC-DC converter. The optimal switching operations are selected with the utilisation of the ASA algorithm. The proposed method is implemented in MATLAB/ Simulink and contrasted with existing methods. Finally, the proposed method extends the lifecycles of the battery to 7500 cycles by proper charging and discharging controller. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd

The development in ocean exploration and observation make the demand for moving object detection in underwater increasingly urgent. The moving object detection in underwater with dynamic or moving background is the challenging and difficult task for the researchers. In dynamic environment, foreground object as well as background of the scene both are in motion condition, thus it is very difficult to detect foreground moving object in underwater medium. In proposed work, background is categorized into three types i.e. static, moderate dynamic and high dynamic backgrounds. The GMG algorithm invented by Andrew B. Godbehere, Akihiro Matsukawa, Ken Goldberg is implemented to detect moving object and compare the results for the three background categories. Underwater Moving Object Detection Using GMG

Advances in the domain of software-based technology pave the way for widespread use of object-oriented programs. There is a need to develop a well-established software system that will reduce maintenance costs and enhance the usability of the component. While designing a software system, its internal structure deteriorates due to prolonged or delayed maintenance activities. In such situations, restructuring of the software is a superior approach to improve the structure without changing external behaviour of the system. One approach to carry out restructuring is to use refactoring on the existing source code for improving the internal structure of the code. Code refactoring is an effective technique for software development that improves the software’s internal structure without changing its external behaviour. The purpose of refactoring is to improve the cohesion of existing code and minimize coupling in the existing module of a software system. Among numerous methods, clustering is one of the effective approaches to increase the cohesion of the system. Hence in this paper, the authors suggest to extract member functions and member variables and propose to find their similarity by Frequent Usage Pattern approach. Next, the proposed fuzzy based clustering algorithm perform effective code refactoring. The proposed method utilizes multiple refactoring methods to increase the cohesion of the component without any change in the meaning of the software system. The proposed system will offer automated support to change low-cohesive to high-cohesive functions. Software restructuring models for object oriented programming languages using the fuzzy based clustering algorithm

Brahmi script is an ancient Indian script that requires expertise to read the written documents. OCR system can help reading and understanding the documents of Brahmi script. In the OCR systems, to recognize the symbols, accurate segmentation in earlier phase is required. If the segmentation goes wrong, it indicates the failure of the recognition process. Identification and segmentation of touching characters is a challenging task in OCR systems. In this paper, the authors have proposed an algorithm which successfully identifies and segments the touching characters from the Brahmi script documents. The algorithm uses ensemble classification technique to identify the touching characters using 9 unique features. The proposed algorithm has achieved 100% accuracy in identification and 99.16% accuracy in segmentation of touching Brahmi script characters. The results of proposed algorithm are significant to identify and correctly segment the touching Brahmi script characters from degraded digital estampage images. © 2021, Engg Journals Publications. IDENTIFICATION AND SEGMENTATION OF TOUCHING BRAHMI CHARACTERS FROM DEGRADED DIGITAL ESTAMPAGE IMAGES USING ENSEMBLE CLASSIFIER

Apart from aiding the environment, exploitation of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) as a potential substitute for natural aggregates (NA) contributes to a framework of sustainable development as well as helps in maintaining an ecological balance by avoiding fast depletion of natural resources of aggregates. Therefore, in this investigation, the effects of mechanical beneficiation and lime treatment of coarse RCA on various properties of concrete were studied. The demolished concrete was crushed by hammer in size range of 25–4.75 mm, followed by grinding for 3, 5 and 8 min. It was found that 5 min of grinding was more effective based on the degree of success in the optimum removal of adhered mortar. Further, RCA ground for 5 min (MRCA) was graded into two different nominal sizes of 20 mm and 10 mm as per IS 383. Subsequently, MRCA was immersed in a lime solution of concentration varying from 1 N to 2.5 N for 3 and 7 days. These aggregates were termed as ‘LMRCA’. MRCA and LMRCA were used for partial replacement of coarse NA in M40 grade concrete at the rate of 10% up to 40% by weight. Various tests like compressive and flexural strength test and water absorption tests were performed. It was found that up to 30% NA can be replaced by MRCA or LMRCA in recycled aggregate concrete. But, the concrete admixed with LMRCA showed better properties than the concrete admixed with MRCA. Moreover, these experimental results were verified by employing microstructural and mineralogical analysis. In concrete admixed with LMRCA, the normality of lime solution was more dominant than the duration of LMRCA immersion in a lime solution. Also, the improvement in strength and water absorption of concrete admixed with LMRCA was proportional to the normality of lime solution. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd

Sustainable production of recycled concrete aggregates by lime treatment and mechanical abrasion for M40 grade concrete

Online weld examination by non-destructive testing significantly demanded specially for aerospace, petrochemical, shipbuilding and nuclear power industries. Mostly, X-ray testing accepted by accuracy and consistency in weld bead examinations and approving part quality. In radiography, the texture feature extraction by grey level co-occurrence matrix plays key role for surface texture examination. This works projected technique for detection and cataloguing of imperfections in weld joint. This technique identify detects and differentiates weld images that look like to improper signs or deficiencies such as crack, slag, incomplete fusion, incomplete penetration, porosity, gas cavity and undercut. A group of four descriptors matching to texture measurements extracted segmented entity and specified input to classifiers. Then, classifier trained to classify entity from one of the defects classes.
