Ferrocement is largely used material in today’s modern structural engineering technology. In this case study the main aim is to study flexural behavior of ferrocement by replacing cement content by 5%. In this study, 40 cubes were tested to get desirable compression strength results and engineering properties input data. Various test specimens in the form of ferrocement plate of sizes (400x200x15) mm, (500x200x20) mm, (600x200x25) mm, (800x200x30) mm and tested analytically with three-point loading with linearly varying load. Equivalent stress and deflection are the main parameters of this study. From the results, it can be concluded that 5%replacement of marble powder and increasing number of layers has proven to be good at increasing strength and reducing deflections.

Ferrocement Panels Under Flexure By Partial Replacement of Cement With Marble Powder

Ferrocement is widely used because of its excellent behavior pf ferrocement under flexural, and impact strength. Ferrocement also has excellent mechanical properties. In this study, total 16 ferrocement panels were modelled of M50 grade of concrete. The thickness of ferrocement panels considered is 15mm, 20mm and 25mm. Galvanized welded mesh is used as reinforcement in panels. This wire-meshes were layered in 2, 3, 4 and 5 layers. High velocity impact test is done by Ak-47 bullet striking with a velocity of 150, 250, 350, 450, 550, 650 and 750 m/s for each panel. All this panels were modelled in design modeler of Ansys explicit Dynamics. Deformation, Equivalent Stress and Normal Stress of all the panels are evaluated and compared by analyzing in ANSYS Explicit Dynamics. From the past researches and the conclusions made by these researches, we can see positive chance in the utilization of waste foundry sand in construction field. As these results gives the great emphasis towards the development on environment friendly and economical constructions.

Ferrocement Panels Under High Velocity Impact By Incorporating Waste Foundry Sand

The accidental fire generally tends to explosion in the city environment surrounded with combustible materials, and vice versa. This leads to the fact that the structures are in danger of combined effect of fire and blast. This study mainly considers the combined effect of fire and blast on SFRC panels and compares the results with that of plain concrete panels. This is the analytical study done using ANSYS 16 Workbench as finite element analysis tool. The ISO834 standard fire curve is used for temperature effect and two loads (0.1 kg and 0.2kg) with varying stand-off distances is considered. The results in form of total deformation, equivalent stress and equivalent strain are obtained.

Finite Element Analysis of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete Composite Panels Subjected to Combined Effect of Fire and Blast

Beam-column joint plays an important role in the response of a steel moment resisting framed structure.Generally, beam-column joint is the portion of the column that is common at the intersection to both the column and beam.Because of the poor performance of pre-Northridge moment connections, the researchers investigated the causes of failureand developed alternative connections for repair, rehabilitation and new construction. In this study, the behaviour of beamcolumnjoint with different modes of connections studied analytically using finite element analysis and experimentally usingloading frame with respect to ductility and plastic hinge formation. Four types of connections i.e. connection using weld, usingstiffeners like cleat angle and plate, using haunches and by using combination of both stiffeners and haunches were used withstandard ISMB steel section, plate forming I section and moreover with tube section. Modelling of the beam-column joint withdifferent connections were done in finite element software named ANSYS – WORKBENCH 2019. The aim of this study is towork out the best behaviour of connections. Experimentally total six specimens with and without stiffening are prepared fortesting. Quasi static test performed on the beam column joint using loading frame. Experimental work is validated withanalytical results obtained by FE analysis.

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF BEHAVIOUR OF STEEL BEAM-COLUMN JOINT WITH DIFFERENT MODES OF CONNECTIONS

Beam column jointsin concrete framed structure have been identified as criticalmember for transferring forces andbending moments between beams and columns. The change of moments in beam and columns across the joint region, underloadings, induces high shear force and stresses as compared with other adjacent members. The shear failure caused is often brittlein nature which is not an acceptable structural performance. Retrofitting enhances the moment carrying capacity of joint. Oftenbeam column joints need to be strengthened. Author proposes use of ferrocement for retrofitting as wrapping technique, costeffective alternative to costly FRP wrapping technique. In this present research study, modelling & comparison of Beam-Columnjoint with and without ferrocement jacket is carried out by finite element method using software ANSYS APDL. The comparisonshows enhanced performance of the jacketed model over Non jacketed in terms of stresses, ultimate load carrying capacity.

FEM Analysis of RCC Beam column joint retrifitted with Ferrocement jacketing

The increased number of terrorist attacks mainly in the last couple of years has shown that the impact of blast loads on buildings is a serious matter that we should consider during the building design process. The research has shown that the two joints (i.e. corner joint and exterior joint) are tested for blast loading of 6kgTNT charge effect with varying scaled distances (0.5m, 0.75m, 1m). Both joints are tested for both conditions that are in presence of steel fibers and in absence of steel fibers. Every steel designer should design Beam-Column joint for blast resistant as the beam-column joint become weak during blast. While these terrorist attacks are rare events, dynamic loads, i.e. blast loads, always need to be measured carefully much like earthquake loads and wind loads. The investigation of behavior of Beam-Column joint with and without Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete under blast loading is presented in this paper using finite element method. Individual behavior of Beam-Column joint under blast loading before and after adding Steel Fibers is studied in this paper.

Analysis of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete Beam-Column Joint Subjected to Blast Loading by Finite Element Method

Modern infrastructure activities are not possible without the use of reinforced concrete and thus the strength anddurability of these structures is important. Corrosion of reinforcing steel is been cited as the most detrimental effect and is thusendangering the structural performance in terms of load bearing capacity and durability. The corrosion affects the service life ofstructure. The bond between reinforcement and concrete is affected due to corrosion and thus the strength of RCC alsodeteriorates. Corrosion of reinforced concrete is a slow process. The concrete acts as a protective shield thus, it takes reasonablylong time for corrosion initiation and progress. The accelerated corrosion technique is a method to assess causes and extent ofcorrosion. The diffusion of chlorides in concrete is recognized as one of the major cause for initiation of corrosion phenomenon.This report presents study on effect of corrosion on compressive strength, flexural strength and torsional strength of reinforcedconcrete beams. In this experiment M25 grade of concrete is used for casting of RC beams. Universal testing machine (UTM) is usedfor compressive strength test and flexural strength test and specially prepared setup is used for torsional strength.

EFFECT ON ENERGY ABSORPTION IN TORSIONAL AND FLEXURAL MEMBER DUE TO CORROSION

Internal explosion that occurs within a structure causes multiple reflections of the blast wave and a multiimpact effect of the wave on the structure is observed. This leads to a greater blast load that acts for an extended time duration than compared to when the explosion occurs externally under an open environment. This paper illustrates the calculation of different parameters of the pressure wave produced as a result of internal and external explosion. Then, the behaviour of a typically reinforced concrete structure subjected to a blast load of 50 kg TNT placed both internally and externally was analytically determined. The time for which the structure experienced the internal pressure was 7.58 times more than that for external explosion. The results showed that maximum deformation for internal blast for all structural components was several times that of for an external blast. The minimum difference of deformations for the two blast scenarios was observed in the front wall, where the maximum deformation for the internal explosion was 9.97 times more. Whereas, the maximum difference was at the slab where the internal blast produced a deformation that was 34.89 times more than the corresponding value for external explosion. Also, deformations exceeded the maximum limits of deflections as per IS 456:2000 for internal blast loading while they were within limits for external blast loading.

Comparative analysis of reinforced concrete structure subjected to internal and external blast loading by finite element method

Ferrocement is a non-traditional type of construction system using mortar applied over a single or series of metalmesh. It is used to construct surfaces and structures consisting of small thicknesses for different shapes. An advantage offerrocement concrete structures is that they are stronger and more durable than some traditional building methods. Ferrocementstructures can be built quickly, which can provide a commercial advantage. Ferrocement is used often in India nowadays becausethe constructions made from it are more resistant to earthquakes. In this research, modelling of ferrocement panels for differentthicknesses i.e. 18mm and 25mm were done in a finite element software named ANSYS mechanical APDL. These 2 types of panelswere subjected to in-plane shear loads of 5000N, 8000N & 10000N each. The model was programmed by using different elementsand material models with different load variations for solving in-plane shear stresses

IN PLANE SHEAR BEHAVIOUR OF FERRO-CEMENT PANELS USING FINITE Element Method

In the development of infrastructure concreteplays a vital role, it is widely used as a building material.Concrete is a mixture of cement, water, coarse aggregate andfine aggregate. Over the last few years, the environment isgreatly affected due to the amount of energy consumed andCO₂ emitted during production of cement, these environmentaland economical issues related to materials production and usehave stimulated interest in the development of alternativematerials which would partially replace cement and improvethe performance of concrete. The materials which can used forpartial replacement could be naturally occurring, industrialwastes or by-products that are less energy intensive. Thesepozzolanic materials when combined with calcium hydroxide,exhibits cementetious properties. This work focuses oninvestigation of durability characteristics of M30 gradeconcrete with partial replacement of cement with groundgranulated blast slag (GGBS) by 20%, 40%, 60% and alccofineby 10%, 12%, 14%. The cubes and cylinders are tested forcompressive strength, water permeability and rapid chloridepenetration test.
