As per recent developments in construction,the architects required to plan the high rise structures inRCC. Unfortunately due to some reasons such as gasexplosion, terrorist attack, fire etc. high rise structuresundergoes some major component failure. Because of thefailure of major component, sometimes part of the structureor whole structure tend to collapse. In other words thisbehaviour of structure is called as progressive collapse In this project it is proposed to carry out progressivecollapse analysis of 12 storey RC frame building byremoving different column one at a time as per the GSAguidelines. Building consists of 6 X 5 bay 3 m in X and Ydirectionand designed by Indian code. Structural model ofbuilding has been created in ETABS and loads are appliedas per GSA guidelines, for evaluation of progressive collapsenonlinear static method of analysis has been used. As pergiven in GSA, three column removal cases for 1st floor hasstudied like corner column C1, interior column C43 andexterior column C47. For these cases non linear staticanalysis has done and joint displacements for three columnremoval cases are evaluated. Also, PMM ratio and axialforce for adjacent columns and bending moments foradjoining beams are evaluated.Results are obtained that, for progressive collapse ofinterior column is more critical than other two locations ie.Corner and exterior column.

Nonlinear Static Progressive Collapse Analysis of High Rise RCC Structure

the purpose of this study is to conduct a physical survey for distresses analysis of 50 lanes of urban flexible roads and to conduct a comparative study on pavement condition rating methods (PCRM) using IRC method, and Highway preservation system. 50 lanes of urban flexible pavements from all over Pune city are selected as a case study. The lanes are visually surveyed to detect the types, severity and extent of the distresses based on IRC and WDOT guidelines (Distress identification manuals). Firstly the lane wise data base is created. Secondly the severity and extent is determined based on IRC and WDOT (DIM). And thirdly the lane wise Pavement condition index (PCI) values are calculated by the methods of IRC, and HPS. To differentiate between both the methods the correlation analysis has been carried out.

A comparitive study of Pavement Condition Rating Methods for Flexible Pavements

The increasing number of vehicles in the city, leading to traffic congestions is the major hurdle in the development of the city. Thus there is a need for proper road traffic demand management for the city. The objectives of the paper are tostudy the various problems faced by the city for two locations(viz. Katraj Intersection and Nalstop Intersection), and also presents solution for the traffic demand management at the intersections. The study is based on the road resources and characteristic of the urban traffic found from the video recordings done at the junction for 8 days during the peak and non-peak hours. Based on the Vehicular Volume Dataand Turning Movement Survey observed at these intersections, the paper discusses the solution to the increasing congestion and its effect on the traffic.

From yesteryear soil retention has been a problem faced by mankind. In his research for better results man has tried several ways to retain massive masses of soil ranging from bamboo, wood, and alternative materials to random detritus masonry. As time progressed RCC retaining wall has become the foremost commonly sought after solution .With the appearance of recent concepts and materials, technology has found better methods to retain heavy masses of soil. RE wall using Geogrid is new soil retaining technology have been widely used in recent years worldwide but the implementation is not up the mark in India. Here the paper focuses on the study of RCC wall and retaining walls using Geogrid for the purpose of cost and time consumption comparison.

According to eleventh five year plan, Construction industry is the second largest economic activity after agriculture. The impact caused to the environment by Indian construction industry is tremendous. Construction industry consumes high volume of raw materials and products. Building materials accounts of about almost half of overall material used as well as solid waste generated. This has major impact on environment starting from extraction of raw material to disposal at the end of structure’s life span. By considering latest scenario, where we have to concentrate more on environmental issues, construction and demolition (C&D) can be considered as a major recoverable material in life cycle process of structure. According to current figures in India out of 48 MT of total solid waste generated per annum (C&D) Waste is about 14.5 MT. According to few studies, out of all C&D) Waste almost 65% is waste concrete. So this waste concrete can be used as a better alternative for aggregate. This paper enlightens the importance of managing the construction waste by reusing it as a better substitute for aggregate in construction which will be one of the best approach to reduce burden of solid waste management as well as curtailing cost of construction.

Innovative Technologies of Non-recyclable waste as replacement in transportation engineering

The construction industry is growing very fast across the globe as such the demand for the space is increasing day by day. It is often in metropolitan cities that buildings are build very close to each other due to lack of space and this leads to phenomenon called “Pounding”. The pounding means a collision of adjacent building to each other due to insufficient space between the buildings. The pounding is a dynamic property and depends on many factors.In this papereffect of GAP between the building on pounding force is studied in detailed. The modeling and analysis of building is done by using ETABS analysis package. The gaps between the buildings are modeled by using compression only “GAP” element which consists of specified gap and a spring with proper stiffness. The nonlinear modal time history analysis is performed for three different ground motion characteristics and parameters such as displacement, pounding force and base shear etc are compared and presented.

This project highlightson optimising the construction and execution aspect of a road network. It also focuses on analysing the current and futuredemand for designing a very efficient and smart road junction with aim to have a free and speedy movement for allcategories of traffic. For our project, we have chosen a 3-km stretch and an intersection in PCMC. This project will assist inredefining the design parameters for any infrastructure project.

Optimization of a Smart Road Junction

The maintenance and life of tunnel is a vital aspect of a HighwayTransportation Engineering System. The tunnelinstallation, execution and maintenance play an important role in healthy traffic movement all over the year. An innovativemodification in the process of lining of tunnels can assist help an efficient draining system by usingporous concrete before thelining layer of concrete. This study focuses on the application and utilization of porous concrete to drain off the water fromthe tunnel site.

Application of Porous Concrete for Tunnel Lining

In this modern age, civil engineering constructions have their own structural and durabilityrequirements. Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) is a composite material made primarily from hydrauliccements, aggregates and discrete reinforcing fibers. Fiber incorporation in concrete, mortar and cement pasteenhances many of the engineering properties of these materials such as fracture toughness, flexural strength,resistance to fatigue, impact, thermal shock and spalling.The FRC is a composite material made of cement, fineand coarse aggregates and discontinuous discrete steel fibers. Recently developed an analytical model topredict the shear, tensional strength and bending torsion behavior of fiber reinforced concrete beam withexperimental substantiation. However, very little work has been reported in combined torsion and shear.Similarly to beam with conversional reinforcement, the presence of shear may significance influence ontensional strength of fiber concrete beams. Present paper investigates the mechanical properties like as shearstrength, and torsion strength of concrete with different types of steel fiber with constant volume fractions anddifferent aspect ratio.A primary finding emerging from the experimental program was that the placement offibers, increased load carrying capacity of high strength fiber reinforced concrete [HSFRC] beam.
