The road network in India is growing at an exponential rate. The biggest challenge in this scenario is an availability of good-quality pavement materials at a reasonable rate. The demands of these pavement materials are increasing at an accelerated rate due to which good-quality material available in nature is getting depleted rapidly. This may create a threat to the environment in the near future. The rate of depletion may be reduced to a certain extent by adopting measures, viz. use of recycled pavement materials, stabilization of locally available poor-quality materials, and use of reinforced pavement. Assessment of such measures in a limited time is the biggest challenge. This challenge may be tackled by using full-scale accelerated pavement testing setup. However, the full-scale accelerated pavement test is not readily available. Over the globe, accelerated pavement testing setups are developed at only a few universities and research institutes. This paper presents the development details of a full-scale laboratory accelerated pavement testing setup. The calibration of the applied axle load is also presented. The developed full-scale laboratory accelerated pavement testing setup will prove opportunity to test new material/technique which will build up the confidence due to gain of knowledge. This paper also aims to investigate the variation of vertical stress and deformation at the base–subgrade interface of geotextile-reinforced and unreinforced pavement using the developed pavement testing facility.

Development of full-scale laboratory accelerated pavement testing facility: a step toward performance assessment of geosynthetics reinforced pavement

The present work aims at providing structural design and methods of manufacturing of structural components designed using ferrocement panel and light gauge steel. The method of construction suggested promotes fast construction, making it advantageous, economical in many situations. Total twelve numbers of specimens are prepared with three different specifications; each size has four specimens of sizes 200mm X 300mm, 200mm X 450mm, 200mm X 900mm respectively. Also used LGS channel of size 89mm X 49mm X 0.75mm. Two specimen of each type are connected through only screwing and rest specimens by self tapping screw with epoxy. These composite specimens are tested under direct uniaxial compression. Expectation from this research is that this research will be used as guidance for future research on composite system for building construction.

Ferrocement Composite Members Under Uniaxial Compression Using LGS Channel

Construction projects comes across various milestones, resulting into delay in execution of project, hence there is need to improve techniques in planning so that project is carried out within stipulated time. TheLOBST (Line Of Balance Scheduling Technique) is a scheduling method which makes the operations to be carried out effectively and allows activity can be performed continuously and efficiently ineach consecutive unit. Line Of Balance Scheduling Technique is a significant technique that plays important role in repetitive construction project.Lack of awareness of proper method and techniques increases cost and project completion time. It becomes very important to adopt proper methodology while doing the housing project for low income group. This paper aims to evaluate the real application of line of balance in low income housing scheme. Case study of low-income housing project by MHADA at Talegaon-Dabhade,Pune. Also supports the method developed in the paper. The findings point out significant controlling benefits of LOB is comparing with GANNTCHART Method in the project and addresses limitations showing the efficient use of LOB. VICO CONTROL software is used to schedule the project by line of balance technique. It is observed that this method increases line efficiency and minimizes smoothnessindex.

Planning and Scheduling of Low Income Housing Scheme Project by Line of Balancing Method

It has been widely recognized that heavy metal removal by activated carbon adsorption is due to the surface complex formation between the metal ions and the acidic surface functional groups. The present study focuses to investigate the possibility of the utilization of activated carbon prepared from groundnut shell as a low cost adsorbent material for the adsorption of heavy metal present in the leachate. Batch experiments were conducted to determine the effect of contact time, pH, adsorbent dosage, speed of agitation, temperature. Experimental data was evaluated to find out kinetic characteristics of the adsorption process. The isothermal data was well described by the Freundlich and D-R adsorption model with a fit (R2 = 0.964). The maximum % removal of Nickel ions was observed to be 95% at pH =10 with speed of agitation = 500 rpm and 25ºC temperature.

Adsorption of nickel ions from leachate on groundnut shell activated carbon

Heart failure is a severe medical case, where the heart is not able to function properly to maintain blood flow. The surgical heart transplant procedure accomplished with the last stage of failure of the heart. Machine learning approaches account an ability to handle large datasets systematically and are extensively used in a biomedical research field. With the help of machine learning algorithms, tools are developed that helps specialist as a successful mechanism. The objective of this study is to learn different machine learning approaches for analyzing the heart transplantation dataset by using suitable classification algorithm. Also, the theoretical and the experimental comparative study of different machine learning techniques, using heart transplantation data. This study provides basic guidelines on machine learning technique. The results provide an overview of machine learning technique. We have used a WEKA machine learning software for evaluation and analysis to get an easy way to understand the result. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

Comparative Study of Machine Learning Approaches for Heart Transplantation

Deep-water reservoirs have high formation pressure, and the fracture pressure is very close to formation pressure. During cementation, pressure has to be balanced within a small range. So, cementing a long section of casing becomes difficult. To increase economic benefit of the project, it is imperative that cementation is carried out in the least possible time, i.e. with least setting time and lower weight of cementation wherever applicable. Keeping these in mind, efforts were made to increase the mechanical properties of the cement by using nanocellulose. Experiments have shown that considerable improvement in cement properties was achieved. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

Effect of nanocellulose as an additive in cement

This paper presents a versatile approach to implement BPSK (Binary Phase Shift Keying), QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), FSK (Frequency Shift Keying), QFSK (Quadrature Frequency Shift Keying), M-PSK (M-ary Phase Shift Keying) and M-FSK (M-ary Frequency Shift Keying) on a Zynq 7000 All Programmable SoC which can find application in SDR (Software Defined Radio). The designs are implemented using Verilog HDL (Hardware Description Language) and the tool used is Vivado IDE (Integrated Development Environment) 2017.4 by Xilinx. The system follows a modular approach to make the design easy to modify and reuse. The design approach followed is a top-down portraying the primary modules and then moving into details of each module implementation. The Sine wave is generated using a look-up-table and the phase or frequency values of the sine wave produced is dependent upon the modulating message bits. With symbol sample frequency selection input the design is able to switch the rate at which the input message symbols are sampled facilitating the design to switch between message symbol sampling rate on the fly. These features of the design can find potential applications in SDR (Software Defined Radio). © 2018 IEEE.

Implementing PSK and FSK Scheme in Zynq-7000 FPGA for SDR Applications

Conventional vehicles has been responsible for increasing the pollution levels in entire world. Analysis of climate data has shown that formally stable glaciers have begun to melt which causes rise in sea-level and puts cities near coastline to greater risk of flooding. An environment-friendly substitute for gasoline vehicles is electric vehicles which runs through battery. As some of the control units of electric vehicles vary from gasoline vehicles, instrument cluster development for electric vehicle needs different techniques. There are embedded development boards and microcontrollers developed specifically to serve automobile applications. Also there exists software to develop graphical user interface which can run in embedded boards. This survey paper enlists various techniques in terms of hardware and software which can be implemented to design a digital instrument cluster for electric vehicles. © 2018 IEEE.

Single point incremental forming (SPIF) has several advantages over conventional sheet forming process, but due to its inherent drawbacks such as localized thinning, poor formability of parts having steep walls and long processing time make it unsuitable in many industrial applications. In present experimental investigation, two-step hybrid incremental sheet forming (HISF) process is proposed which combines stretch forming (SF) and SPIF process. Stretch forming or preforming is done in order to get intermediate shape and desired thickness distribution. On the same setup final part shape is obtained using SPIF process. From the literature review it is found that sophisticated tooling is used for stretching process. In present experimental investigation simple tooling comprising wooden preforming tool is used for stretching followed by SPIF process to form final part shape. Full factorial design of experiments is used to quantify influence of wall angle, preforming and preform tool radius on minimum thickness. From the experimental results it is observed that wall angle has significant influence on thinning which is in good agreement with the previous literature. Further, from the same set of experiments, the influence of preforming depth and preform tool radius on minimum thickness is studied keeping wall angle as constant. It is found that preforming has significant influence on minimum thickness and formability. For conical frustum of 30o and 50o wall angle, 70 mm preform tool radius and 10 mm preforming results in minimum thinning. Also, improvement of 18% in minimum thickness is observed while forming parts with 50o wall angle. Using preform tool radius 70 mm and preforming depth 18 mm, an improvement of around 40 % in forming depth of part having 70o wall angle is achieved in HISF process as compared to SPIF process.
