In recent years due to globalization and increase in competition to capture market share, the customer is having many options of cars at much affordable prices .This has led to tremendous amount of cars on the road. The big cities in India are normally crowded and the city's existing infrastructure falls short to satisfy the growing needs. This problem is also combined with the inefficient use of parking space and uneven distribution of traffic which leads to congestion in vehicular traffic. This paper introduces a novel technique based on Internet of Things platform to improve efficiency of the existing parking systems. It guides driver to find nearest parking slots. The prototype uses cloud based architecture of Internet of things. There is minimum delay in finding an optimal parking slot which helps to ease the traffic congestion. The proposed system also helps users automatically find a free parking space at the smallest distance based on Haversine formula if nearest parking region is full.

Parking guidance system using internet of things

Crowd density analysis is very imperative for intellectual video surveillance to help in management and control of crowds for safety. In recent years, more and more datasets dedicated to crowd density estimation, crowd analysis and anomaly detection in crowded scenes have been created. The use of these dataset allows us to compare different crowd density estimation methods with the same input data. A survey of video datasets for crowd density estimation

The commercial and industrial applications, namely, business form reading, bank cheque reading, and full postal address reading, have constituted the majority of the market for handwriting recognition technology. Devanagari is the most popular script in India and is used to write texts in Hindi, Marathi and Nepali languages. Significant amount of work has been done on Devanagari isolated characters. Very few attempts have been made for Indian postal system automation. This paper presents the challenges involved in Indian postal system automation with a case study. This paper also throws light on the existing research literature support available for doing the postal automation.

A survey on devanagari character recognition for Indian postal system automation

Sign language is widely used by individuals with hearing impairment to communicate with each other conveniently using hand gestures. However, non-sign-language speakers find it very difficult to communicate with those with speech or hearing impairment since it interpreters are not readily available at all times. Many countries have their own sign language, such as American Sign Language (ASL) which is mainly used in the United States and the English-speaking part of Canada. The proposed system helps non-sign-language speakers in recognising gestures used in American Sign Language. The system described in this paper is implemented using MATLAB. In this approach, firstly, the signs are captured using a webcam. The images captured are then processed further and the features are extracted from the captured images using PCA. Comparison of the features is done using Euclidean Distance with the training sets. Minimum Euclidean distance helps to recognise the character. This system will enable non-sign-language speakers to better understand and communicate with those with impaired hearing.

Online hand gesture recognition &amp; classification for deaf &amp; dumb

Super resolution technique gives an effective way to increase image resolution. Lower resolution is converted into higher resolution. By proposed super resolution algorithm, image is resolved sixteen times. This paper presents a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) implementation of super resolution algorithm. FPGA is used because of its various advantages. In super resolution image size is increased by adopting information from input image itself. Using this algorithm image can be resolved up-to 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x.

Implementation of super-resolution algorithm on FPGA

Powerful automatic speech recognition system (ASR)is matter of commercial importance as many leading companies are sprinting at industry and consumer level production. One of the major reasons for speech quality to hamper is environmental noise. Speech gets obscured by the loud background sound. This adversely affects the performance of automatic speech recognition system. We also know that human auditory system is comparatively more capable of managing noise than the machine. So as to improve the performance of ASR, auditory properties of human system is studied and modeled with the help of psychoacoustic filter. The filter is labeled as 2D P-filter as its parameter has values zero or positive. Also to remove noise, masking effect is implemented where the sounds falling under predetermined masking threshold are modified. Therefore the enhanced set of features are extracted by applying this filter to the Mel filter bank. The novelty of the paper is use of different distance metrics for classification and testing the performance of Automatic speech recognition system. Experiments are carried out on database of recording of rhyming words by articulatory disabled children in a studio. Expected results obtained after testing phase for noisy speech signals would be considerably improved.

2-D psychoacoustic modeling for automatic speech recognition in noisy environment

A smart antenna is actually a fusion of an array that changes individual antenna elements patterns in response of a dedicated signal to improve performance. Moving one step beyond of beam forming is adaptive algorithm which allows for the computation of continuously amend weights. The process of adaptation must satisfy a specified optimization principle. In this project two Adaptive algorithm Least Mean Square and Recursive Least Mean Square are implemented to revamp beam. Added optimization of beam is accomplished with the help of genetic algorithm which makes beam more optimize. This optimization method is used for the synthesis of antenna array radiation pattern in adaptive beam forming. The optimum value of weights of each antenna element is determined which produces a radiation pattern with minimum side lobe level. Analysis is being carried out with varying different element and space in between element to obtain the minimum weight with the help of genetic algorithm. This improves the performance to achieve the maximum reduction in side lobe level (of the order -20dB) with minimum function calls.

Recursive least mean square algorithm for linear antenna array optimization for beamforming using genetic algorithm

Fall is an unusual activity and it is a serious problem among the elderly people. In the proposed system, we present an automatic approach for detecting and recognizing falls of elderly people in the home environments using video based technology. The focus is on the protection and assistance to the elderly people. Fall causes a very high risk of the elderly's life that may cause death. The fall incident is automatically extracted from the video data represents itself, unique information that can be used to alert emergency or to make a decision whether the fall is confirmed. The main motivation of this work is to provide such a system which automatically detects the fall and intimate the respective authority. Proposed method uses background subtraction to detect the moving object and mark those objects with a rectangular and elliptical bounding box followed by extracting the features like aspect ratio, fall angle, silhouette height. In the proposed system, an Adaboost classifier to classify the normal and fall event is used. The system is implemented using OpenCV libraries and Python. The accuracy of the proposed system on Le2i dataset is 79.31%. © 2016 IEEE.

Automated unusual event detection in video surveillance

Design and Control of Quad-Copter Using GPS and Inertial Sensors for Parcel Delivery.

Wireless communication growth has led to system requirement at short as well as long transmission range. Is has also promoted high demand of compact radio frequency (RF) circuit with low power design. As voltage control oscillator (VCO) is an important part of RF systems, following paper proposes a low power 30 GHz VCO. The preferred oscillator topology uses LC tank over ring oscillator because of its robust phase noise response. The proposed LC-VCO is validated through CAD simulation and shows a wide tuning range with lesser phase noise or power impact as compared to other proposed structures. The proposed LC-VCO is based on 90-nm CMOS process and consists of four MOS transistors and a LC-tank as the major constituents. The design has been kept simple so as to reduce the chip area and avoid any complex interconnect. Due to reduced load on the LC-tank achieved by the proposed structure, the power consumption recorded at a 1.8 V supply has was 0.38 mW. The achieved tuning range of the proposed system was 17%, and the phase noise was -105 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset. The performance of LC-VCO demonstrates the performance of low power compact (or mobile) transceiver system. © 2016 IEEE.
