The construction materials used in thebuilding tall structures are responsible forextremely high carbon emissions. Therefore, toaddress this issue building designers are constantlylooking at alternative sustainable constructionmaterials. A new type of timber called MassTimberas a material for construction is nowattracting the building designers because of itssustainability advantages. Mass-timber is aninnovative type of engineered timber withimproved structural properties making it suitablefor the construction of tall and heavy structures.This paper is intended to study the performance oftall mass-timber buildings under the most severedynamic loading conditions of India. Three modelsof mass-timber buildings are analyzed in ETABSunder the seismic and wind loads according to thedemands of most severe earthquake zone-V andone of the windiest regions at Bhuj, India. It isobserved that the mass participation duringseismic activities is considerably low and the windloads are considerably higher than the seismicloads. It is concluded that with a suitable lateralload resisting structural system mass-timberbuildings can perform adequately.

Implementing Balance Score Card in small size construction firm:Case study

The main aim of this study is to conduct thestructural audit of the Sadhu Vaswani Pul which is a Rail OverBridge, situated in Koregaon Park, Pune and to establish thedisplacement sensors developed in the institution as a reliabletest for structural auditing of the bridge decks. Traditionalmethods of auditing like the Rebound Hammer test and theUltrasonic pulse velocity tests have been considered in this study.Very few methods are available for testing the deck displacementand this problem has been tackled here. The novelty of thisresearch is that the institutionally developed displacementsensors are used for determining the deck displacement of theselected bridge. These sensors have not been used before and noon-site techniques are available to obtain the deck deflectionsunder real-time loading. The displacement test on the decks wasconducted. The critical decks which were determined during theVisual Inspections were tested by the displacement sensors. Atwo-axle truck of 18.5 tonnes was passed over the bridge deckand the displacement readings were recorded at the same time.The displacement reading thus obtained indicated the deflectionof the deck under a uniform rolling load. The displacementsobtained were then validated by the standards given inAASTHO-LFRD. After conducting the above tests, the overallcondition of the bridge was determined and the critical sectionswhich should be repaired were mentioned.

Structural Audit of Sadhu Vaswani Pul using Institutionally Developed Displacement Sensors

India is rapidly developing in every aspect now. As aresult of which number of smart cities are now arising. whilebuilding such smart cities major role is played by infrastructuraldevelopment. In this infrastructures, speedy and economicalconstructions are expected to make them more effective. Amongsuch effective construction systems, Flat slab system is the oneand is being widely applied on large scale. Flat slabs are thin solidreinforced concrete slabs which are supported directly by columnswithout beams. Flat slab system is now well adopted forconstructions of high rise multi- storied commercial, residential,institutional buildings. They have adventitious constructive,architectural and economical features including easier formwork,speed of construction, spaciousness, etc. The purpose of thisproject is to study the seismic behavior of Flat Slab Structure fordifferent seismic zones by assessment of Response ReductionFactor using Pushover analysis. Response reduction factor is thefactor by which intensity of seismic waves produced duringearthquake (maximum elastic base shear) can be reduced tocalculate the design base shear. Assessment of Response Reduction Factor of Flat Slab Structures by Push-Over Analysis

The paper emphasizes on the effect of shuttering material on surface hardness and compressive strength of concrete cubes of multiple mix design grade based on rebound hammer and compressive testing machine. American Standard and British Standards codes have mentioned the effect of formwork material on rebound number. But the Indian standard codes have not included it. The mould materials used are Cast iron, wooden and shuttering plywood. Compressive strength and surface hardness of total 108 cubes were found out and the results obtained were represented in graphical format. The paper exhibits result and conclusion based on experimental work.

Seismic Analysis of Beam-Column Connection of Intze Tank

The developments in construction make itcompulsory for architects to plan the high rise structures in RCC.Unfortunately due to some reasons like gas explosion, terroristattack, fire etc. high rise structures undergoes some majorcomponent failure. As the major component fails, sometimes partof the structure or whole structure tends to collapse. Thisbehavior of the structure is called as progressive collapse.Progressive collapse may be a chain reaction of failures thatcirculates either throughout or some of the structure lopsided tothe first local failure. The progressive collapse of buildingstructure is commenced when one or more vertical load carryingmembers are removed. One of the important characteristics ofprogressive collapse is that the final damage is not related to theinitial damage. In this project it is proposed to carry outprogressive collapse analysis of regular and irregular structures.Structural model of building has been fashioned din ETABS andloads are applied as per GSA guidelines, for evaluation ofprogressive collapse nonlinear static method of analysis has beenused. The analysis is done using ETABS 18 software and usingcodes of analysis, IS 1893: 2016, IS 456: 2016. Jointdisplacements, axial force, bending moment are evaluated. In allcases progressive collapse of internal column is more critical ascompared to other cases.

Non-linear Static Progressive Collapse Analysis of Asymmetric High Rise R.C.C. Structure

Technology is growing rapidly day by day. In construction industry also, there are some techniques which helps to reduce the in-situ construction, Ferrocement is one of them. As thickness of ferrocement panels is relatively low, it easily tends to cracking failure. So, to reduce the chances of failure, use of fiber can be the better option. In this research, ferrocement panels with and without use of fiber are compared. In this research, Basalt fibers are used as a reinforcing material with wire mesh for ferrocement slabs. The main target of this study is comparative study of the behavior of plane Ferrocement panel and ferrocement panels with basalt fibres tested under low velocity impact with different drop heights as 0.5m and 1m. Panels used of size are 500mm×500mm with 15×15mm opening and varying thickness of 15mm, 20mm and 25mm with varying layers of mesh from 2 to 5. Comparison of ferrocement panels and basalt fibre reinforced ferrocement panels is studied out. Volume of basalt fibers was used as 0.5% of total volume of panel

Ferrocement Panels Under Impact Loading By Incorporating Basalt Fibres

Pune metro network is one of the major national projects in India. It aimed at developing an elevated andunderground transportation system to solve the severe traffic problems in Pune. The underground line includes 5 undergroundstations which are Shivajinagar, Civil court, Budhwar Peth, Mandai, Swargate and tunnels. The tunnel for Pune Metro Line 2 has acircular cross section of 5.8m internal diameter that consists of a precast segmental lining thickness of 0.275m. This reportpresents a parametric study on the effects of seismic waves on the tunnel structure through numerical modelling employing thefinite – element analysis. Full dynamic analyses were performed employing earthquake motion of maximum magnitude earthquakein Maharashtra which is Koyna earthquake in 1967 of 6.5 magnitude. The analysis of soil-structure interaction was done using thecommercial software Rocscience-RS2. The results proved that the 275 mm thick circular cross section can safely sustain theexpected static, dynamic and seismic stresses. This research work focuses on the behavior of Segmental lining used for the Punemetro tunnel under seismic loading. Detailed behavior of Pune metro tunnel, designing of Metro tunnel along with seismic loadingand its behavior have been studied. Finite element modelling by using software RS2 has been done for 6 cases.
