Damage reports on recent earthquakes have indicated that torsional motions often cause significant damage to buildings, at times leading to their collapse. Asymmetric structures have irregular distribution of mass and stiffness and its centre of mass and centre of rigidity do not coincide and hence causes the torsional effect on the structures which is one of the most important factor influencing the seismic damage of the structure. In this paper, seismic performance of two buildings irregular in plan are analyzed and compared. Two 33 storey buildings with ‘S’ and ‘L’ plan shapes are modelled in ETABS 2016 using Time History Analysis..

A Comparative Study Of Torsional Effect Of Earthquake On ‘L’ And ‘S’ Shaped High Rise Buildings

In buildings, slab is one of the important structural member as well as the largest member consuming concrete. Therefore by using high density polyethylene balls the consumption of concrete can be optimized. The advantages of bubble deck slab are less energy consumption both in production, transport and less emission of exhaust gases. The main aim is to study the practicality of hollow plastic balls in a reinforced concrete slab. The range of the study involves evaluating the flexural strength and behavior of light weight slab and conventional slab by analytical and experimental work. The slab specimen casted were of three types namely, conventional slab, B.D.S of 50 mm diameter and B.D.S of 100 mm diameter having dimensions of 750 mm X 500 mm X 150 mm. The testing of slab specimen was done on universal testing machine by giving one point line loading. Finite element analysis on slab specimen is also done by using ANSYS WORKBENCH 16.0. From the results it can be concluded that Bubble deck slab of 50 mm and 100 mm diameter can be used in practice, as the deflection values of the particular slabs are within the permissible limit as stated in IS Code.

Analytical and experimental analysis of voided slab

The problem of web document clustering has been well studied. Web documents has been grouped based various features like textual, topical and semantic features. Number of approaches has been discussed earlier for the clustering of web documents. However the method does not produce promising results towards web document clustering. To overcome this, an efficient hierarchical semantic relational coverage based approach is presented in this paper. The method extracts the features of web document by preprocessing the document. The features extracted have been used to measure the semantic relational coverage measure in different levels. As the documents are grouped in a hierarchical manner, the method estimates the relational coverage measure in each level of the cluster. Based on the semantic relational measure at different level, the method estimates the topical semantic support measure. Using these two, the method computes the class weight. The estimated class weight has been used to perform document clustering. The proposed method improves the performance of document clustering and reduces the false classification ratio.

Achieve High Compressive Strength and durability of Concrete Made from Recycled Concrete Aggregate

The main objective of this investigation is to study the flexural behavior of Ferrocement-LGS composite section when subjected to 4 point monotonic load. Ferrocement panel and LGS is connected with self-tapping screw at different spacing. 3 different spacing of 125mm, 150mm and 250mm screw connection is analyzed under flexural loading to understand the deflection behavior and moment capacity of section. Experimental study & research determine the result in terms of loadcarrying capacity, central deflection, bending moment capacity, Load vs Deflection curve and failure pattern. These results will be compared with each other. Expectation from this research is that this research will be used as guidance for future research on composite system for building construction.

Flexural Behavior Of Ferrocement-LGS Composite Under Monotonic Loading

Black cotton soil is spread all over the entire area in Maharashtra and some parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Black cotton soil have the characteristic to swelling or shrinking with the change in moisture content which affect the pavement base course and structural elements. For stabilizing expansive soil the UCS, SPT, CBR tests are carried out with the addition of Stone Powder (8% and 16%) and Polypropylene fibers (0.8%, 1.6% and 2.4%). Tests are carried out for determining the compressive strength of soil is increasing with the increasing in admixtures.

India owns second largest road network in the world, being so prominent asset indicates the prerequisite for preserving it. The paper is a step towards an effort to do the same. It provides a way to analyse the outstanding factors which are more headed for affecting the pavement performance. Knowing such factors may help one to work in a way to improve the pavement performance with an eye on that influencing factor. Along with it, the work has taken an initiative by carrying prediction and maintenance modelling as an enhanced way of pavement management and preservation.

Assessment of Influencing Design Parameters of Buckling Restrained Brace on its Performance on MATLAB

In recent years, the seismic design of structures has experienced significantchanges because of the increased demand for optimization of the structuralcapacities of buildings in order to minimize the level of damage, economic loss,and structure repair costs after an earthquake. The purpose of this project is toevaluate the performance of Special Moment Resisting Frame (SMRF) buildinginstalled with Buckling Restrained Braces (BRB) designed according to thecurrent Indian Standards, minimum design loads for buildings and otherstructures. The project also investigates the differing results from the time historyanalyses completed using ETABS, commonly used structural analysis software.For the Nonlinear Dynamic Procedure (NDP), a time-history analysis isperformed in which a model that incorporates the nonlinear load-deformationcapacities of individual members in the structure is subjected to earthquakeground motions to obtain forces and displacements. Optimization of Special Moment Resisting Frame installed with Buckling Restrained Braces

Corrosion effect on reinforced concrete is one of major issue in construction industry. Reinforced concrete is widely used in construction industry due to its extensive accessibility. The outcome of steel corrosion includes damages cross section of steel area, cracks in concrete due to increasing expansive pressure, In coastal region due to effect of chloride deterioration of steel is cause which resulting into reinforcement corrosion which affects service and life of RCC structure. The bond strength between the steel reinforcing bar and concrete is thus reduced and the strength of the structure deteriorates. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of corrosion on torsional strength, shear strength and flexural strength of reinforced concrete beams. We used accelerated corrosion technique to induced corrosion on reinforced concrete experimentally in laboratory. Using M20 grade with ordinary Portland cement, beam specimens are casted. Universal testing machine (UTM) is used flexural and shear strength and load and deflection behavior is analyzed. Specially prepared setup is used for torsional strength.

Experimental investigation of effect of corrosion on reinforced concrete beam

In today’s scenario, construction equipment plants are essential for any construction projects and are also important for rapid progress and improvement in the quality of work. Breakdown and less productivity of equipment can increased the cost of construction project. Hence it is important that attempts to be made to increase the productivity of equipment. Earlier research has often addressed this fact, but it has rarely explained the causes and consequences of downtime. Thus this research paper highlights various causes of downtime of RMC plant and Transit Mixer. Also the downtime cost of RMC plant and Transit Mixer (TM) is determined by using mathematical model, COX Model and NUNALLY Model. These models are used to identify the downtime cost of equipment where COX Model gives the value by only taking into account of failure machine and not considering the impact, while the NUNALLY Model gives higher value due to considering the overall impact of failure machine on work.
