The openings in the building envelope have a great influence on daylighting in the internal area of the building spaces. The amount of opening area, its orientation, outside obstruction &amp; positioning of building affects the inside illumination. Most of the energy consumption occurs during the building's operational phase for heating, cooling &amp; lighting purposes. This paper aims to provide a simplified analytical and GIS based approach to evaluate the potential of daylight inside the room under clear sky conditions. The work evaluates the intensity of internal illumination in residential apartment building from available outside external illumination.

Removal of dyes from textile effluent using bamboo waste as low cost adsorbent

Normally concrete structures are designed for static loads. Sometime such structures are coming across the dynamic loads arising from military activities, terrorist activities. Therefore, this investigation will undertake to provide the needed information about the influence of various parameters on performance characteristics of steel fiber reinforced concrete and increased need to strengthen concrete structures. This study aims to investigate the impact resistance of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC), incorporated with steel fibers at various dosages. For this, a drop weight test was performed on the 28 days cured plain and fiber reinforced concrete specimens. End hook, Crimped and flat steel fiber of length 35 mm and an aspect ratio equal to 80, 50, 77.77, 46.66 were added to concrete in proportion 1.5% with water cement ratio of 0.40. The experimental test results of steel reinforced fiber concrete are compared with plain concrete and conclusions are arrived.

Structural Investigation of steel fiber reinforced concrete subjected to impact loading.

Anteshwar is a small village located at distance of 35 Kms from Nanded district, Maharashtra state, India. It lies between North latitude 19°07’55.83” and East longitude 77° 07’7.36”. Due to insufficient rainfall & no availability of water resource net irrigation requirement (NIR) in Anteshwar is not fulfilled. To meet this NIR some measures have been adopted to direct this extra runoff to ground water storage.

This paper investigates the benefits of overhead water tank with respect to cost. There are three different types of dynamic vibration absorber which are sub types of passive damper such as tuned liquid damper, tuned liquid column damper, tuned mass damper. The water tank where used as damper will get the several benefits than the other two dampers. Every building is having water tank and if used it as damper will serve our purpose in both directions as damper and as storage of water also. The comparison is done between Tuned mass damper, Tuned liquid damper and Tuned liquid column damper which are the types of dynamic vibration absorbers which are passive dampers. The life cycle cost is considered during the study.

Life Cycle Cost Analysis of Overhead water tank as a liquid Damper

Due to the present policies of globalization, the scenario of economics is changed in past decade. Construction companies in India are facing tougher competition from their counterpart companies due to large trend of global bidding. To be ahead in the bidding process they need to show competitiveness in terms of quality, cost as well as time of a construction project. To lead this competition they need to strive for customer satisfaction and delight. Total quality management (TQM) is the philosophy which can transform Indian construction sector to surpass the global competition and match the global standards. TQM is an effort that improves overall performance of company and it focuses on customer satisfaction, training , teamwork, and process improvement. This paper discusses the TQM concepts and practices adopted by construction companies & also aims at throwing light on problems related to implementation of TQM in construction. The study is carried out using questionnaire survey conducted across different companies in Pune and Nasik districts and also using face to face interview with managers & engineers & then subsequent analysis of the response from companies . For analysis purpose, importance index is used in this paper. The study is conducted in the quest of finding solutions for TQM implementation in construction industry.

Total Quality Management in Indian Construction Industry

In this study, an attempt was made to prepare an activated carbon (AC) from bamboo by chemical activation method. Phosphoric acid (H3PO4) was used as a chemical activation agent for the production of AC from bamboo under conditions of temperature 600 °C for 1 h. The AC is an excellent adsorbent and its applications are widely described in literatures. Prepared ACs, are characterized by standard methods XRD, SEM, FTIR, XRF. XRD analysis is used to study the presence of highly organized crystalline structure for AC. SEM and FTIR analysis is used to study the surface morphology and to analyze the functional groups on the prepared carbons surface respectively. FTIR functional groups such as hydroxyl group, lactone group, and carboxyl group were obtained. XRF is used to study the different concentrations of inorganic elements present in the produced AC. The result also shows presence of fifteen elements with their concentration. Thus present study adds one more bio-waste source as useful raw material for preparation of AC.

Preparation and characterization of activated carbon from bamboo by chemical activation

In this modern age, civil engineering constructions have their own structural and durabilityrequirements. Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) is a composite material made primarily from hydrauliccements, aggregates and discrete reinforcing fibers. Fiber incorporation in concrete, mortar and cement pasteenhances many of the engineering properties of these materials such as fracture toughness, flexural strength,resistance to fatigue, impact, thermal shock and spalling.The FRC is a composite material made of cement, fineand coarse aggregates and discontinuous discrete steel fibers. Recently developed an analytical model topredict the shear, tensional strength and bending torsion behavior of fiber reinforced concrete beam withexperimental substantiation. However, very little work has been reported in combined torsion and shear.Similarly to beam with conversional reinforcement, the presence of shear may significance influence ontensional strength of fiber concrete beams. Present paper investigates the mechanical properties like as shearstrength, and torsion strength of concrete with different types of steel fiber with constant volume fractions anddifferent aspect ratio.A primary finding emerging from the experimental program was that the placement offibers, increased load carrying capacity of high strength fiber reinforced concrete [HSFRC] beam. Ductility,toughness significantly improved.

Experimental Study of Steel Fiber Concrete Beams for Shear, Bending and Torsion

The present study aims at improving the shear and flexural strength of the concrete bythe addition of steel fibres. Also the study investigates the effect of prestressing on the shear andflexural strength of concrete. In this research work, 20% of fly ash (class-C) is added as a replacementof binder to its weight and 1.5% steel fibres by weight of concrete. Based on the experimentalresults, it can be seen that the load carrying capacity of steel fibre increased by 30–50% than theplain beam for non-prestressed. And load carrying capacity is increased approximately by 30–90% than the plain prestressed concrete beam. The use of steel fibres in a concrete mix was foundto increase the crack resistance of the beams. Crack width was not more than 6 mm and 3 mm incase of the non-prestressed and prestressed steel fibre reinforced concrete beams respectively.Hence, based on experimental results it can be concluded that prestressed steel fibre reinforced concretebeams help to improve the shear strength, flexural strength, and crack resistance

Shear and Flexural Behavior of Pre-stressed and Non-Pre stressed Plain and SFRC Concrete Beams

The use of steel fibres in plain concrete helps in improving the mechanical properties of concrete structure. Thus the aim of present study is to investigate the effect of steel fibres on torsional strength improvement of concrete. The research evaluates the torsional strength and combined torsional-shear-bending strength. In this study, 20% of fly ash (class-C) is added as a replacement of binder to its weight and 1.5% steel fibres by weight of concrete. Experimental results show an improvement in torsional strength, combined torsional-shear-bending strength and crack resistance of concrete by addition of steel fibres in the concrete and a decrease in the deflection. Based on the experimental results the modified coefficient of the empirical formulae has been suggested to predict the torsional strength and torsional stress of steel fibre reinforced concrete.
